I had a buddy that had the same thing happen to him. He went to a chili cook off and ate some turtle chili that didn't sit well with him. I'm not sure about the body count but he did survive and said it was so bad they had to stop the truck on the side of the road for awhile! He had dogs in the truck with him, they were never right after the incident.

Although that particular bomb (British Grand Slam) was only ever dropped on Europe, and therefore wouldn't have been found there, old bombs can be devastating. The Grand Slam was particularly powerful. However, also, the older those bombs got, the more powerful they became. Look up the 1967 fire about the USS Forrestal, caused by a misfired missile and a bunch of old, rusted, leaking, pre-WWII composition b bombs. Although the comp b ordinance was labeled as 500 lb bombs, the book excellent book "Sailors to the End" said that their age effectively made them the equivalent of 1500 lb bombs, which were so powerful that, when detonated by the burning jet fuel on deck, blew holes through The Forrestal's flight deck. So the explosion here isn't really that exaggerated, I think, but I'm not expert.

A large stash of old WWII bombs was found buried where a gas station was being built at Clark AB in the 1980's. I was part of the team that staged a detonation at a bombing range in crow valley. The explosion was comparable and impressive.

just to help with some of the comments. The claymore is not what caused the giant explosion but the bomb it was attached to. Yes, it could be detonated in a manner after so many years but it's a bomb that has no business being in that area as it was a WWII British bomb used in Europe only. Still a good scene, though

What I find unlikely is a claymore being able to set off the bomb in the first place. Claymore's don't explode, they fire steel balls. You might get a small fireball but its mostly just a big puff of dust.

It is actually not farfetched. In 1945 the RAF 617 Squadron dropped 14 Tallboy bombs on the German cruiser the Lützow in the Piash canal in Poland that connected the Baltic Sea to the Oder River. None hit, but were close enough near misses to rip the ship apart below the water line. One of these Tallboys failed to explode, you can see which one at 12 seconds in the video I've linked below. It was discovered in 2020. During efforts to defuse it, it detonated, in the second part of the video. Luckily nobody was injured. So, if a bomb that has been sunk in the mud of a Polish canal for 75 years, going through no telling how many cold/hot cycles can blow up, a bomb in the jungle for 70 years blowing up isn't much of a stretch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4qVnXaooNiXnrs

@@dartmaster501 The tallboy bomb that the RAF dropped in the canal probably buried itself deep in the mud consequently insulating the bomb and protecting it from the effects of the canal. In the rambo film the bomb was above ground. The steel casing would have corroded away from the tropical rainfall allowing water ingress not to mention insect and foliage contamination which would have led to chemical breakdown of the explosive.

From what I remember (Haven't seen the movie in FOREVER), they're not following Rocky, but the little bundle of cloth he has on 'im. It belonged to the woman, who's clothing they're using to track. So he leaves the bundle at the bomb, dogs stop there and you see the rest.

Yeah, it makes zero sense, the entire point of a tallboy is that it penetrates deep into the ground and explodes deep, where it sends out shockwaves that damage building foundations and seismically shift the soil under foundations. You would use it against concrete dams, bridges, viaducts... what possible reason would you have for a seismic bomb in jungle warfare?
