Okay, I can't be the only one who feels EXTREME narative dread from this, right? I mean, all the Rattians, who are discriminated against and partly alredy lost hope to ever archieve anything in theater, singing to Wendy, the only non-Rattian in the major roles that aren't narators, to "show the way so we can see, show the way the world can be" just naratively paints the picture of them hoping that Wendy can prove them wrong, and that the world can change. And Wendy, for all intents and purdposes, pretty much betrays them. In the musical number, she looks back. Betraying their hope of things beeing different and of getting out. I am extremly afraid that that point will be mirrored in the over all story, and that Wendy will have to make a choice sooner or later that will possibly lead to her naratively throwing Eugene under the bus.

@@friendwas0149 right? XD I also rewatched the other animatics, and Eugene and Wendy ending up seperated becouse of a choice Wendy makes, is a reocuring theme in most of them! -In Wicked, they get seperated becouse Wendy decides to not go with Eugene. -in Beetle Juice, Wendy literally pushes Eugene off the roof. -and than of course this one, where Wendy decides to look back and trapes Eugene in the underworld. If this is a coincidence, it's a really creepy one! XD

@@aniflowers1998 In the Waving Through a Window one too! It shows Wendy when the last "So I wait around for an answer to appear" line is sung, and Eugene reaches out for her, but Wendy walks away and Eugene is left alone and crying. I would never have noticed any of it if you hadn't pointed it out! I think it would be very cool if it is intentional foreshadowing, although if so I think it will just be a temporary setback and Wendy will ultimately do the right thing, because anything else seems very contrary to the tone of the series so far.

I love the soul and emotion that Wendy is able to put into her singing, projecting her own personal life onto her musical performance. The cast being transformed into mannequins with hats, and the "she" from the song in her mind changes from Eugine to her mother(?). And when the ensemble comes out to sing "if she can do it, we can too"- they must have been directly pulling that from their desire to be in performing arts. Eugene is so inspiring to them all!! /Your story/ is so inspiring to /me/!!!!!! I'm so very invested in this story!!!

This is such a beautiful rendition of wait for me reprised and doubt comes in. Its such a great song for your story and plus hadestown is an amazing musical. I loved how you were able to portray the long road they had to travel. And the animation for the embrace and choreography was so gooood. This perfectly shows how Eugene has gained enough confidence in herself that she’s been able to trust herself and Wendy to full capacity. But Wendy is still struggling with power over her own life, and like Orpheus, its not that she doesnt trust Eugene, its more of she can’t fully trust herself after everything she’s been through. After being told what to do for so long, she’s so scared of loosing everything she loves, especially when she’s only starting to find herself and what makes her happy.

My last comment got deleted so I'll try to make it more "family friendly" Holy... That raw emotion on display was illustrated beautifully! And this is an amazing watch for someone who knows the ancient Greek story but hasn't seen Hades Town because you know the absolute gut-punch is coming but it keeps up the suspense the whole time through the movements, Oh my [-] this is amazing! And then the part where you see a semi flashback to the real Wendy where she's questioning "why would he let me win?" So freaking amazing! Also I love that they included the ratian actors from the highschool to play as the people trapped in Hades Town

I think this really highlights Wendy’s situation, especially in the latest chapter. She doesn’t realize just how much influence she has on others and their opinions. So when she did that to Eugene, and to an extent the other Ratians, she was too shortsighted to understand the real ramifications on a larger scale.
@Taykin

Saying this is a 10/10 from you is underselling it, tears litteral tears down my face after watching it. The excellent use of the music and timing for the musicality to shine through, the facial acting is top notch and really sells the whole thing. You continue to impress using the setpiece of each of these musicals to really elevate the narrative of your story, expecially for Wendy in this one, the isolating nature of it all, and the sadness of betrayal she sees as she looks behind. But also using the broader themes of things change and stay the same... God I could keep going, but this is the best one yet, 13/10 fantastic stuff. I'm gonna go and rewatch/read the whole thing again my goodness

This is truly sad. I was wondering how close to the original story we would get and it was dead on loyal to the old tale. It's sad, truly sad on how far her got and yet he failed the trial because he was so afraid. and it's heart wrenching at the last part when she says his name for that last time. I always wondered why this trial had to happen the way it did but man it sure did hurt because Love did not conquer death because Doubt crippled hope.

I love the scenery of Hadestown and the part with Eurydice singing “I’m coming wait for me” which included the workers was genius and well animated. As a long time Hadestown fan I can say you captured the musical perfectly, even with cutting some of Wait For Me Reprise, and using Orpheus’s doubt of Hades to reflect Wendy’s doubts about herself and her father was a genius move!! Disclaimer: I've been completely unaware of original Hadestown prior to watching this video (but I've read short summary as of now) This animatic made me experience one of the most cathartic moments in my life. The way Wendy just _turns_, a single frame, and I instantly realize the grave implications of it. It made me literally hold my breath. "Why the hell did the protagonist do this", "But of course the doubt was too much to handle", and finally "There is _no_return_ from this simple mistake" I applaud to this. This is what art is for, for moments like this. It's directed better than any movies I've ever watched.

The visuals were stellar. As an animator, when you make an animatic, the goal isn’t always to make the animation look fluid or clean, but to make creative visuals. Like swinging lights, or how Eurydice became the wind and saved Orpheus’s flower, or how Orpheus found Hades’s mannequin collection and the broken portrait. It’s the camera angles. The strong character poses, the concepts. And you always outdo yourself.

It's phenomenal the camera angles and intentional use and (fantastic) breaks of art rules. You should be so proud. I really enjoyed the camera angle shift in a moment of fear. I also want to note for other actors, drawing on your own experience is good but it also is dangerous if done incorrectly in acting. You have to remember to keep yourself safe, otherwise you have to relive or experience for the first time emotions that you aren't ready for. I had a teacher who that actually had a panic attack everynight from getting himself to hyped in the play. Be present, be genuine, be committed, but don't be unsafe. Don't relish or worship anyone or method that praises danger in theatre.

Every time you release a new animatic I think there’s no way you can out do yourself and every time you prove me wrong. The amount of effort that goes into these is absolutely incredible!! They proceed to get better and better and I continue to be blown away by the skill, choreography, art, camera angles, and so much more. As someone who strives to be a storyboard artist, your animatics are some of the best storyboards I’ve ever seen in my life and the creativity of the story is unmatched!! One thing i love and your animatics is that it’s not a story about the song, but rather a story accompanied and enhanced by the song. The story completely drives it and the camera angles and composition make this so amazing!! Keep making incredible things!!💖💖

I've rewatched this more times than I can count, it's so heartbreakingly beautiful. It makes me want to perform it live so badly and reference your choreography, it's so cinematic and has so much personality. I love seeing the development of Wendy and Eugene's acting throughout the animatics as they pour themselves more into their characters. The final moments were absolutely shattering, in my heart I know they're just actors and characters but it genuinely brings me to tears to watch. And I love the stories behind adding more actors/characters to their stories. This is one of my favorite series of all time, and I love seeing the development of your art and how rapidly you're improving. As always, so excited for what comes next!

this is absolutely gorgeous and amazing! the spin and hug at 3:02 was so smooth, and that dramatic jump/spin at 3:36 with the miners was absolutely perfect-- and the 3d background around 4:00 really helps adds depth and shows just how lonely and empty wendy/orpheus feels-- and at 6:32 where it starts to show reality, outside the show- it gives me chills, it's absolutely amazing! i've loved all your videos with these two but this one is by far my favourite so far, keep going!! don't burn yourself out though. :)

I don't know what's more impressive: your art or the amount of people in the comments that never heard of Hadestown. I always thought of it as at least mildly well known, not a Hamilton but at least a Be More Chill )I'm not a native English speaker

I’ve know idea who these ocs are but this animatic did an incredible job putting detail into character gestures and interactions to give them personality. Obsessed with the creativity of the scenes that aren’t in the musical itself, like the chairs and the boat. So impressive

This was absolutely amazing! Congrats to the winners by the way as well as they looked amazing in this video. Bit of a break down of my thoughts if you don't mind reading: 1) Holy moly I was only expecting one song but you managed to merge at least four (maybe five?) From the musical. Very impressive! 2) I wasn't expecting the professor to be Hermes but that fits so well! And everyone does the roles given to them so well too. Kudos to that! 3) Need I say how amazing the setting looks? I was given a chance to see both the Broadway and off Broadway shows of this musical and I felt like I was back at those theaters watching it again when watching this. Amazing work! 4) The animation? Absolutely flawless! I can just see how much work was put into this with both 2D and 3D aspects of it! 5) *The*. *frickin*. *expressions*. Just *chef's kiss* spot on and well made to show everyone just how every character felt in every moment 6) And lastly, this is the last thing I swear, the small moments and little things throughout the animation. The small shots of the setting, the quick looks between the Ensemble and Eurydice, even Orpheus almost losing and eventually dropping the flower, all of it was amazing! You really out did yourself with this one, Rambu, and you should be quite proud with this and all you've done so far. Keep up this amazing and awesome story you are creating ❤️👍

I dabbled in Hadestown a little, but never looked up the end because I never really wanted to know if Orpheus looked back in this version. But when I saw you'd done an animation for it, well, I had to wait a while before I was up for it but I'm so glad I did end up watching! You're incredible, as always!

I mean, right at the beginning, Hermes says, “it’s a sad song, but we sing it anyway.” That’s a pretty big clue as to how it ends.

I just realized that in the picture where Wendy is younger she looks different and with a different personality, now she looks more like her sister its actually quite sad bc in the comic his dad says she is inferior to her sister and mother she maybe started to dress like them to gain his father respect or his father made her do it in order to remember his wife and daughter's face

Hooooly shit... your previous works have been epic, but this? This was _tragic._ The sheer agony on display, the _emotion_ in Wendy's eyes, and her solo...! And that final scene with Eugene/Eurydice... I _really_ hope that end wasn't a betrayal in real life, like her cracking under her father's pressure, they don't need that in their lives... As is, the Ratian chorus was also truly inspired! Eugene's truly led the way for them all! I really hope this isn't the last we've seen of them; while duets between our leading ladies are just fine, supporting actors make things all the better!

the emphasis that they were almost out, that Orpheus had just stepped into the light, with the sun on Wendy's back, very very good. The tale tells that Orpheus resisted temptation, and indeed, he did, despite the long walk. But he didn't realize Eurydice had to be in the light as well. Well done.

This is why the legend of Orpheus is so tragic. He doesn't have faith in his beloved. And with one action that proves his doubt, she has no choice to go back to where she knows it's safe. My interpretation is it's a metaphor for trust and faith. Like that guy said. "It's a test." Orpheus failed. Honestly every time this tale is depicted I think it will turn out happily ever after every time! Then my heart gets ripped out every time they turn back on the classic tragedy tropes. Depressing as hell! Though, that's the reality of Orpheus. How his life ended is just as bad as how his and her's relationship ended.

I’ve been listening to this video nonstop and it just clicked that Wendy says that she Used to think of what could be but now all she see is what is reality. That line makes me think that she use to think her and Eugene could have been true friends and change the perspective that the world has on them. But because of her father reminding her that she is only a tool Wendy is forced to see reality and the world her father is striving for.

What a coincidence, I saw Hadestown for the first time less than a month ago and have been obsessed. This was beautiful, so faithful to the original work with your own animated spin and cinematography that's simply -chef's kiss-. I love the whole video, bar none, but I think my favorite parts had to be the transition between songs and the lights flashing to the beat followed by the camera swinging over the 3D train track to Wendy's back. The way you show her singing that special tune with such fear and trepidation, the way she cups her ear in the hopes she'll hear something back and barely restrains herself from turning around. Your expressions and character body language is so good, gives me such chills and anticipation. I love the webtoon, twitter updates, and these animatics so much. You're amazing!

over 8 minutes of beauty, though i will admit onces names got dropped i know where it was going (not having seen hadestown, but knowing the story its based on) between the muses and the art, i so wished the out come would be different, but a lass no it was never meant to be it had been long enough i for got you did stuff then this gem lands in my feed, i absolutely need a kick to the feels, thank you the story telling was well done from panel to panel i can't help but thing this is a metaphor for Eugene's acting career, excellent work, can't wait for the next one if there is (jk take as long as it takes they are worth the wait)

I haven’t seen or heard the soundtrack from Hadestown yet, so watching this play out hit really hard at the end when you’re rooting for the characters. The emotions on the characters and the backgrounds and designs all look so well done as usual. Well done! Edit: Forgot to add this, but seeing how this song connects to Wendy’s life and how she’s doubting herself when Eugene trusts her, adds to this so much!

I’ve been rewatching these animatics ever since the most recent episode dropped, and this one specifically foreshadows/hints at so many things that happened!! It all seems very obvious in hindsight but I didn’t catch it 😅 With Wendy slowly drifting away from Eugene and Eugene never losing faith in Wendy, it’s very very good, esp w the addition of Wendy’s hairstyle as orpheus being very similar to her younger hair style!! And also the whole family cut away, which is what I meant abt it seeing obvious in hind sight! I just wasn’t paying a lot of attention lol. Very excited to see what else comes from this :D

I have to add onto this, I’ve noticed there’s a theme in your animatics of Eugene being the one trying to convince Wendy of something/being more rebellious (Defying Gravity, Beetlejuice, this to a certain extent) and it’s very cool to see in hind sight!! Especially with defying gravity, Wendy being a part of the more noble class and agreeing with Eugene but unable to fully support her, and in beetlejuice where her mom literally died and her father is trying to get her to move past it. It’s so good!! It’s also so weird to think that Defying Gravity is over a year old, bc it’s what introduced me to you and musical pipers, and I’m still finding story relevance in it now. Can’t wait to see what you do next!!
