Picking a favorite moment of this is like trying to pick a favorite bite of your birthday cake, but I've narrowed it to the moment at 3:19. We see Glinda notice that Elphaba's hand is trembling. The nerves behind Elphie's giddiness cause Glinda's shift from frustration and pity to empathy and care. She sees that her friend isn't delusional or arrogant; she's stepping into the unknown and needs her friend now more than ever as she faces that uncertainty. It's almost enough to convince her to follow. Almost. This moment sells the scene and the two characters so perfectly.

I think this perfectly captures Gilanda’s conflict: she does want to be there for Elphaba, but she knows the path that her friend is going down is the wrong one, and you can see that in her expressions through this animatic. What’s more, I imagine that after the events of the musical when she’s all alone Gilanda throws a fit, raging and destroying her personal possessions and breaking down as she goes over all the avenues she could have taken to help Elphaba avoid her fate, maybe if she had gone she could have prevented all the things that Elphaba did, because even after everything that the Witch of the West did, she was still Gilanda’s friend.

The characters in this scene are Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (The good) back in their collage days when they first met each other. Elphie has been noticing there are troubling signs in the land of Oz while in school and latched onto a kind hearted teacher name Dr Dillimond, who is also a goat. He is the one who got brought attention to the fact that animals in Oz are all losing their powers of speech and are being treated poorly. Elphiba believes the best way to fix the issue is by brining it to the Wizard of Oz. As luck would have it, after arriving in the collage they discovered she has quite the knack for magic and was being summoned to meet him. After arriving however she realizes that the reason these things are happening to the animals is directly because of the Wizard and even comes face to face with a recently dumbed down Dr Dillimond. Her statement of, "I don't want it... no i CAN"T want it." Is referring to her ambitions to work with the Wizard to help Oz. She can swallow her pride and work with him or deny him and work against him which as you can tell in this song she has already decided to do. Hope that wasn't too much of a read lol. But that is as condensed as I can think of making it and hit all the points xD If you ever have the chance to see this play, DO IT! It is my favorite play I have ever gone to, the visuals the song and plot are all phenomenal!

the subtle gestures in this are so wonderful. For example, the part in the beginning when they sing “right now,” you can see that their gazes sort of drift aside, like they’re feeling some kind of shame or regret, a feeling you can’t quite place. Agreed! Honestly, a *lot* of how she uses magic in this reminds me of someone describing Elsa's body language/movement (esp. It really isn't wrong, and I am *obsessed* whenever I see that particular kind of magic use grace/sheer joy and comfort in.

Hi okay I??? Really like wicked???? And so there’s dialogue in defying gravity that got incorporated here in some AMAZING WAYS. 1. After Morrible condemns Elphaba as wicked, Glinda notices that Elphaba is trembling and puts a cloak around her- there was a little hand shaky when Eugene offered Wendy the broom and shortly after!! Wendy gave the cloak!!! That made me so happy!!! 2. The spell Elphaba’s using is the same spell that gave the monkeys their wings, she’s trying to do it on herself and gets the broom on accident- as she’s doing the incantation, Glinda is not having it. When she’s had enough she screams “STOP. (Beat) Well. Where are your wings? Maybe you’re not as powerful as you think.” (Enter the broom) AND LEMME TELL YOU When the CLOAK turned into wings??? I lost my mind!!! That was soooo cooool 3. The little picture of Dr. Dillamond!! Aaaaa my heart

@phox12983 жыл бұрын
(Warning this is so so long) I am genuinely so in love with this animatic, I don’t know if I can properly express quite how much I love it but I’m going to try: everything about it is gorgeous. The framing, the poses, the body language, the expressions, it’s all beautiful, and honestly could fool me as professional work. Especially with the added knowledge they’re acting, it makes all the body language and expressions much more meaningful. The way green is used in this is great too. The magic looks amazing, and I love the way it highlights the characters, as well as the lightning bolts. I think what makes the expressions so nice (as well as, again, the body language) is that it’s exaggerated in a way that conveys the emotions well and feels nice with the music. I wish I could say more, but I don’t quite have the vocabulary or knowledge to say why everything is so delightful in this. Instead I’m gonna put my favorite parts cause I want to gush about it (sorry pinned comment I got this idea from you lol): 0:25 I really like the way there’s a clear divide in the beginning before Eugene starts singing, and it’s very satisfying how they each transition into the ‘musical’ world on beat 0:31 I like this bit, again about the slightly exaggerated body language, it conveys their emotion very well (also very fluid) 0:35 I like the way they move around each other, and the way it’s framed shows how they each have to look down and up at each other respectively 0:45 the way each of their expressions go from anger to something more soft is very nice 1:15 this is a very good example of what I mean by exaggerated body language, the way Eugene moves down before springing back up makes for a very satisfying movement especially in correlation with the music 1:51 this whole sequence!! The way Eugene moves looks very nice and is a good set up for the whole book magic thing, which goes very well as the sort of first climax of the song. The movements before that also convey Eugene’s thought process and hesitation very well, and the pause before helps build up that anticipation and makes the book magic thing a lot more impactful 2:02 talking about that this is one of my favorite parts of the entire animatic. The way the magic is used is beautiful and the movement is so fluid, and the hand motions along with the magic and the highlight on Eugene’s face from the magic and Eugene’s facial expressions!!! I can’t help but gush about it, it looks amazing 2:21 the way Wendy moves is, once again, very nice and exaggerated in a way that goes very well with the music (I am going to over use a lot of words in this lol) 2:27 I like that Eugene is still moving here as she looks back at Wendy and does her little arm movements, it looks very nice and also conveys her emotions very well 2:49 this shot right here is very well drawn, the perspective is great and it helps define where the characters are in space 2:50 I like the way the camera pans down with the book, and I really like the shot when it fully pans down to show Eugene, and the expression on her face 2:58 I like the way Eugene looks to the camera and her expression there, and I think the pinned comment already mentioned this but the way the broom pulls Wendy closer to Eugene in set up for the next part is a nice touch! (And nice animation) 3:05 to 3:39 I love the defining shot of Eugene standing with the broom, and the way the broom is used to pull Wendy and Eugene together, and their expressions as Eugene convinced Wendy to go with her, it’s beautiful 3:40 this shot is Eugene pulling Wendy up with her is gorgeous and the way they hold the broom together and the way the magic highlights their eyes as they sing, it’s just beautiful 4:01 the way Wendy’s face morphs from happiness, especially in contrast to the previous scene, to hesitation and the shot of the people as an explanation is very well done in showing her thought process 4:11 Wendy giving Eugene her little cape thing (?) as a way of saying goodbye and Eugene’s understanding, and the whole shot of them holding hands, the perspective there is gorgeous 4:35 Eugene tearing up when Wendy lets go and looking away before she can regret her decision!! The expression is amazing 4:42 this shot with all the weapons charging towards her and her expression and the way she jumps off a second before they can get her!! Amazing 4:46 this shot of Eugene and the clouds swirling around her is beautiful, and the way the green lightning strikes looks wonderful 4:56 I love the way the camera shakes as Eugene does her spell, and I think someone already mentioned this in a comment but the way Eugene used her friend’s last gift to her as literal wings!! 5:01 this whole sequence, with Eugene flying is so fluid and the way the lines and clouds move around her conveys the flying very well 5:04 once again the fluidity and the perspective of this shot!! 5:20 this pose is a favorite of mine, something about it is just very nice and really shows her newfound confidence well 5:43 the expression here either the tears and the blush and the sparkling eyes is gorgeous Ok that’s all, finally. I could say a whole lot more honestly, I could talk about every second but I tried to limit myself so it wasn’t too repetitive (which it still was, sorry I used the same words a lot). Anyways tdlr I really really love this animatic, thank you for making it!

Small detail I enjoy: I like that as the number goes on Eugene starts off being smaller than Wendy in the frame 0:36 but as the music continues Eugene and Wendy start being at the same level within the frame 3:26 . This culminating around the time Wendy gives Eugene the cloak 4:12 , where from this point Eugene is higher both from in the frame, the broomstick flying, and fitting the song which is hitting some of it's real climatic notes 5:34 . Good animatic, will likely watch it about another 25 times.

Whenever I watch it again, I end up watching it a few times in one sitting just because I love how well everything was planned out. The composition, adding more movement and frames at more climatic parts, and adding just a touch of color to the monochromatic style of animatics is amazing. This will always be my impression of how this song should be and I doubt any other form of this song will make me think otherwise. I feel so inspired to draw again just from watching. Thank you for producing such an amazing artwork, Rambu! I can't wait for your big animation for Pied Piper comes out!

So damn beautiful. And I just love how they went from ironically saying "I Hope you're happy now" to genuine hope and care.

I can't get over how AMAZING this animatic is! I've watched this at least 4 times now. From the facial expressions to the expressive poses is just so good. And the simple backgrounds and lines for perspective to get a sense of where the characters are instead of them just standing in a void of color makes a big difference. 4:45 - 6:03 just gives me chills every time i watch it because you helped convey that moment so well! I appreciate how much time you put into this because I know how much work has to be done to make something like this, and I just wanted to tell you that you did a WONDERFUL job!

It was only a matter of time that the algorithm would recommend me this vid because of how much I love Wicked, and wow. Just wow. This video is a masterclass for this song, amazing work! What I love the most is the vivid expressions and movements in time with the music. The hardest thing about Broadway, especially when I saw Wicked live, is seeing the actors' expressions from a backrow seat. Their voices convey such vulnerability, such commanding emotion that it is easy enough to imagine, but there's something raw and evoking about seeing the emotion on a person's face, and your animation and art captured those emotions beautifully. The slower scenes (like the arms waving and glowing as the book lifted up in the beginning) as the song was building still conveyed so much expression through your characters that honestly this animatic felt too quick, I was just engrossed. Definitely going to check out your other social media, because wow. I love your art!

Holy cow, your use of emotion and motion from the sfx to the characters embodying their parts was Amazing!! I could almost imagine the pages of the book at 2:50 flipping to the rhythm of the synth notes in the background >:O. I'd love to see more of these two in the musical :D

Man, I've always loved this song, but I legitimately regret not finding this animatic sooner! It's just marvelous! The sheer range of motion borders on outright animation, and that alone is glorious... but it's the expressions, the expressions that take this above and beyond. Both in general and in the context of the in-world recital, the way they transform into their characters is incredible! In particular is Eugene. I've read the comics, so to see her go from this shy and meek little mouse to donning all the spite and scorn of Elphaba is amazing! The scene I keep coming back to is the climax, not just because of how triumphant and epic it is, but the look, the LOOK in Eugene's eyes as she leaps onto the balcony and sweeps her cloak out. Just... incredibly badass. Easily the best scene and the best version OF said scene I've ever seen! I'm following you on both twitter AND here on KZbin, because I simply cannot miss a single showing of these two! In particular... I pray that one day, they do indeed play the Pied Piper. If this is where Eugene and Wendy are now, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be waiting with bated breath to see where they are then!

Every time I don't listen to it for a while, I forget that hearing this song always rips my heart out, then gives it back. This is the first thing I've seen set to the song, other than the scene IN the musical itself, to live up to that feeling. Thanks for that.

I cried at, “I hope you’re happy in the end~! I hope you’re happy, my, friend~!” And at the final lines, I love this song so much. For me, Elfaba represents chasing dreams that are a risk, but nothing will bring her down. Glinda is grounded and supportive when understanding Elfaba’s goals, and they respect each other. That’s true love, letting go.

I should have seen it already, and I want to see it now, on its own merits, but the heart in this project alone is what made me feel that in my soul Also one of the things I love the most about this is how much the broom animation reminds me of Treasure Planet, I think that's part of what has me so enthralled

I’d take this animated version instead of the new LA any day. It makes me wonder why they insist on turning fairy tales into “realistic” settings and plots. Now don’t get me wrong “Ever After” and Harry Potter are masterpieces as well as the broadway show.

I-- this is so good that I completely forgot that at the start they were doing acting. That immediately when the scene changed from them being on stage to them being in a sort of library I was hooked on the main premise of the animatic. I swear I'd praise it more if I could but words can't begin to express how I love this so much. P.S. I know it sounds overreacting but shivers all over first time I watched it OvO

I've never been so sure in my life that someone is going to have 5 million subs in the next 5 years than I am now. This is absolutely incredible and everything about this is so well-made! Passion just seeping out of every pore. The artstyle, the poses, the cool little magic effects and camera angles, so well-paced and professionally made! And everything after 4:40 just... Has me absolutely dumbfounded. I've never simped so much for an animation before. Keep up the good work!

Incredible Edit: Also who stuffed you inside a closet for 30 years and told you to do nothing but draw hands for hours to make you *this* comfortable drawing them that many times with a decent amount of detail each and every time omg
