Fan2jnrc. Rather than decry this marvelous score, another way to look at it is that there are beauties and subtleties in this work that simply escape you. The truth of this is evident by the fact that the opera is older than the United States and will no doubt continue to be performed long after you and I are dust.

He explains the character of platée who is at the same time proud and haughty but also moving and naîve. She is not young and want to be in love with someone but she is ugly and nobody want. She is aggressive and moving in the same time.

Il est déshonorant pour notre nation qu’on laisse jouer en public des choses aussi détestables." ("I've seen that thursday, and I'll believe Rameau is a wizard if this ballet has got any success. It's disgraceful for our country that one allows to perform in public such an appaling thing..."). The present success of "Platée" is just snobbery...

I never loved this opera... It could be nice, of course, the story and the lyrics are rather funny, but the big problem is that the music is simply very bad... Boring, uninspired, with absolutely no melodic inventiveness, that kind of music it's just the "run-of-the-mill" of barock music...
