really in general, saxophone is one of those instruments massively on the rise in the music world, how it started who knows, but Sax Metal/Saxcore is def one of the best things to come of it.

@@CabamacadafNo, they really weren't. It was extremely common through the 50s and even into the 60s for rock bands to have a sax player. A lot of the guitar distortion stuff comes from attempting to mimic the sounds of a sax.

@@CabamacadafRock is a lot more interchangable with other genre's, Metal is a more complex and phonetic genre (which this is metal,) the place that started incorproating saxophone into metal was actually bands from Germany, where it currently is a very popular trend in the screamo/heavy metal industry.

Okay! NOW WE'RE TALKIN'!!!! Having followed Mia Asano and Tina Guo's music for YEARS now, THIS is a great evolution for both of them. Form a FULL-ON BAND and crank out killer jams with their incredibly talented friends. I love how they consciously and intentionally give EACH instrument and player their own chance to stand out from the group and shine all on their own. I just hope we might actually get a FULL ALBUM from this group. Hopefully this isn't just a one-off collaboration but the beginning of something INCREDIBLE!!!

Let me open you up to the world of alternative metal and more specifically Saxcore. There's a lot of Swedish and Geramn metal bands using violin and cello in their stuff, though I don't think it has gotten any specific genre names like Saxcore has.
