I really appreciate the time you and your family take to make the videos! I've been watching and planning for a while. I'm struggling with the cost for adding color to the lifts. I saw your FAQ for Lambert Southwest and saw that they have concrete color and mortar color, and you have mortar color listed. Can you let me know the ballpark cost for the pigment/colors your using? Thanks again for sharing so much information.

I think we are paying about $4.50 US per cubic yard of finished rammed earth wall.

Another way to get the end wall key to release easier Could be to chanfer cut the top and bottom And split it into 2 making a cut down the center. With may be a 15°+ angle So it should start releasing as soon as it starts moving
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would have been good to do. I don't think the benefit was worth the extra work. Next time we will just but the foam up against the form.

I’d put screw some anchors into the strip of wood and pull it out with a come along rather than sawing it.

I think they said they will on the main house, but this is their garage I believe.

The wood was really rotten and kept crumbling. But the idea didn't really work anyway so we live and learn :-)
@ssennyunjaadam54023 жыл бұрын
hey i love the forwork, its easy to assemble and it gives a clean finish. how can i get my hands on it, you can give me details of the supplier for the forms
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
We built them from 16 gauge steel studs and medium density overlay from our local hardware store. If you'd like to watch the process, you can watch our video "Making MDO Forms for Rammed Earth - Vlog 40" to see how we made them.

I didn’t find a video related to insulation between rammed earth? It would be really helpful if you provide that,,, thank you Keep building , really appreciated ❤❤

They are using foam sandwhiched in the middle of the walls as is shown is some of their other videos.

Hello. Just wanted to say that I’ve enjoyed your videos and the instructions you’ve provided. If you wouldn’t mind, can you please tell us the additives (and maybe where to get them) you put into the dirt mixture that makes your walls hydrophobic? Any information you’re willing to provide will be most appreciated.
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The admixture we use is from SIREWALL USA. It is a proprietary additive so you would have ask them for more details.

On your insulation end of wall key Maybe if you angle cut the sides it should release easier
@mellyons40523 жыл бұрын
Yes your correct
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but I think we just won't do that again. It didn't give us the benefit we thought it would

I don't know much about rammed earth, but just looking at it, it seems heavy...would a lintel assembly be a good idea to support the wall above the window? I love your videos.
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
For a longer span, yes. Because this was only about 2 feet (60 cm) it should be fine
@Invisible_Difference3 жыл бұрын
New subscriber here. Did you need to get your general contractor's license in order to get approved to build? I hope to follow suit in the coming years.
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
Nope, we live in an area where they do not require permits or licenses to build. The only suit that should be coming is the one I will wear (sorry not sorry for the dad joke)
@mariosampaio1083 жыл бұрын
why dont you insert tubes/conduits etc inside your walls before you fill/ramn the walls, the result will be seemless electrical instaltion switches etc
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
That is exactly how it will be done on the house. For the garage and workshop I wanted the ability to change electrical configuration later if needed so we will use rigid conduit attached to the walls.
@KirkWagner1473 жыл бұрын
Do you have to put the foam in there ? It seems like some do and some don’t
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
The foam is the thermal insulation, without it you basically have a castle. Which isn't bad, but for our area we really need the insulation.
@mohankumarr92303 жыл бұрын
What is the mixing proportions of rammed earth wall sir
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
For our materials it is 3 parts sand to 1 part gravel plus 10% Portland cement. BUT that is specific to our mix design, different materials need different ratios

Hi, please accept our constructive criticism. Could you kindly make shorter versions of these videos with music. It's just a request. More like 5 minute showreels or trailers showing the most important parts of Rammed Earth construction. Thanks. Hope m not hidden 🤣🥺 or deleted
