Till and some friends were somewhere on an Californean beach, speaking German and some surfers took offense and told them to get out because they were not welcome "in their land"... so, Till wrote this song about it...

Mein Land came about after two incidents involving Till Lindemann in California. He had a slight disagreement with some surfer dudes when they realised that he's German (coming over here, stealing our waves type of thing) and later, a local sheriff caught him answering a call of nature behind a bush ("This is my country and you're peeing on it!"). Answer-Mein Land with the initial piss-take of "The Beach Boys" and "Baywatch", which are both brilliant in their cheesiness. Underlying all of it though is the message about immigrants and refugees-where are you going, you've some here from the North/South/East/West, but you're in my country). The final scenes, then take things down a darer route with the comments about being expelled, expelling and people being forgotten. The overarching theme is of how xenophobia has taken over the West. Another subject that few bands would cover, but Rammstein aren't afraid to.

The pee issue in California was the starting point for this song. Regarding the deeper meaning I will quote Paul Landers according to the german Wikipedia: "I see it like this, quite abstractly, this is a person who has no passport and he lands somewhere on earth and he tries to get into our world and nobody lets him in. He knocks on every country and nobody says: "Come in" but everybody says: "This is my country". This is how the song is meant."

Once upon a time in California: Mr. Lindemann wanted to pee in the public and an American guy screamed at him "Fuck off, this is my country!". Not kidding, this was Till's inspiration to write this song. 😆 Obviously the video plays with that Californian clichés. But of course, if you take a look at the lyrics, the band's political standing and the time when the song was written (European refugee crisis, Syria) it definitely also deals with how people treat immigrants.

Pretty sure he went surfing at one point too and someone said ‘My waves’ or something to that effect. Think that’s where the inspiration for the surfing came from. He was poking fun at the people who said it to him.

This is a critique on the attitudes of nationalists towards refugees and immigrants in general. It's kind of inspired by "Surf Punks - My Beach", if you read the lyrics to "My Beach", they're pretty much the same. The video is also filmed in a very similar fashion!

It is a song about refugees and came from 2015 when a million war refugees reach Europe. Putin has bombarded Syria with poison gas. Europeans were shocked at how many refugees suddenly arrived. Rammstein has given an answer with this song.

I think its generally along the lines of immigration. Someone looking for a country but they keep being stopped by some flag waver saying they dont belong here , this is my land. I hear about Germany having lot of immigration troubles on the news, so that could have played into the inspiration perhaps

Funny enough, the first time I had sex was Sycamore Cove beach. That’s where this music video was recorded. It’s like 15 minutes from Oxnard where I was born. It’s such a lovely beach. They have Sycamore trees on the beach and it’s out in the middle of nowhere. It’s a great place to go if you just want to get away from the World.
