@Jambassador4 ай бұрын
@@quintapusyt This is true of many of the standard Wermacht troops, but the same doesn't often apply to the to Waffen-SS troops, who operated separately from the German Heer and were ultra-loyal to Hitler's Nazi fanaticism. The relationship between the standard Wermacht troops and the Waffen-SS troops was a complex one. They engaged in many shared offensives, but there was certainly a degree of competition both overt and unspoken, on several levels between them. Firstly, the SS usually were given priority for re-supply and receiving new weapons (eg. the Tiger tank in the Kursk offensive), and they also frequently acted arrogantly in the utilisation of routes of advance, barging ahead of Wehrmacht forces - such as during the Bulge counter -offensive in Belgium. These factors generated alot of irritation and anger among the Wermacht Officers. The propensity of certain SS units to perpetrate atrocities was also a cause of friction at times, as some Wehrmacht Officers expressly forbade crimes against civilians. On the other hand, civilian mistreatment was also widely pepetrated by the Wehrmacht on the Eastern front particularly, due to the brutal hatred between Germans and Slavic peoples and the higher propensity for atrocities on both sides on the Eastern Front.

13:39 The promised relief were Polish paratroopers from Independent Paratrooper Brigade. Some soldiers were dropped at 18th and 19th of september, main force was scheaduled to be dropped at 20th, but it was postponed one day due to weather. Market Garden was a disaster and Polish general Stanisław Sosabowski was wrongfully blamed for it's failure.
@rubbishmodeller2 ай бұрын
Market Garden as a whole is not considered a failure by historians. There were many aspects and objectives in the operation. The only failure was not getting the relief through to Arnhem, but huge numbers of German troops and resources had to be diverted there, and they also suffered heavy casualties. The Polish thing is unfortunate - Montgomery initially praised them highly for their efforts, but was later given misleading information which caused him to change his mind.
@ravell28542 ай бұрын
@@rubbishmodeller was a disaster, indeed we made the germans waste resources that they couldnt recover anymore, but the loss of life was too great as well for the allies, they failed to achieve their objectives and arnhem was under occupation for 9 months more, just for a deadly winter without supplies. but dont get me wrong, was a failure from the high command level, the soldiers down there fougth bravely despite all the intelligence shortcomings, but too sad they were thrown into a meatgrinder. Monty said "we achieved 90% success" but the dutch people instead said "our country can never again afford the luxury of another Montgomery success"
@rubbishmodeller2 ай бұрын
@@ravell2854 You are contradicting yourself: ''failed to achieve their objectives'' ''achieved 90% success''. Historians now consider the overall operation to have been a success, but it failed in its ultimate aim of crossing the lower Rhine. As this excellent video shows, radio communications was the single biggest problem for the Allies at Arnhem - radios were set to the wrong frequencies. If they had known the true situation, the men at Arnhem could have been redeployed. The other major factor (hardly ever mentioned) is that Field Marshal Walter Model was, coincidently, in Oosterbeek convalescing. If no such high-ranking officer had been around, the Germans would not have been able to order large numbers of armour to move so quickly onto Arnhem and the paras may have held out for longer.
@ravell28542 ай бұрын
@@rubbishmodeller sorry if my english is that bad... i wasnt contradicting myself, i was quoting monty "success" which in fact was a failure. "90% success" was the thing that monty said about market garden. If you failed to achieve the objectives and on top of that lose a huge amount of soldiers that seem like a failure to me. Indeed all those problems, like the radios or the field marshall present, and even the large panzer regiment stationed there was due to hastly but poorly made planning because the allies were overconfident in having the germans on the run and monty wished to steal the spot by winning the war before xmas with his daring operation. So many lives paid the ultimate price for the ambition of just one man on a hurry.
@rubbishmodeller2 ай бұрын
@@ravell2854 No need to apologise regarding your English. It's not just Monty who said it was mostly a success. This is now the accepted historical view of the overall operation. The ''large panzer regiment'' never existed. It was actually the remnants of two SS Panzer DIVISIONS which had been decimated at Falaise; it was reduced to 20-30% of its strength and only had 5 tanks! The Allies knew all of this because of the Enigma intercepts - this is something that a lot of post-war writing about Market Garden did not know, so they assumed the Allies had ignored information about SS Divisions in the area. Model's presence was the key factor in large German reinforcements arriving. The plan was risky, but it was approved by Eisenhower...
@justonemori4 ай бұрын
I used to think the entire operation was a failure. Then I dug into it and found 60% or so of the Dutch people were liberated. I watched a 70s documentary produced for television about the battle at Overloon that had so much great information from the people that were there. It changed my opinion. It's here on youtube, great stuff. Thanks yarnhub for another great video! *EDIT - thanks for the constructive comments, looks like I need to read more into the country as a whole during the last year of the war compared to focusing on a single operation. Cheers!

Honestly, this video's animation seemed a little off compared to the usual quality, so it wouldn't surprise me if they used AI to make this video (or parts of it at least).

This was beautifully told. The channel continues to deliver magical narration and storyteling. It always is a true pleasure to watch these videos. The braveness of those paratroopers should never go silently but should always be remembered, it was just an amazing feat of bravery, resilience and grit!
Animation was incredible this video! Every single upload y’all get better

Thank you for adding Indonesian voice and subtitles! 🔥

The last time I commented I mentioned something about the voice and mouth synchronization being the only weak point. You went ahead and improved that and then somehow made the animation look even sharper. Y'all are 🐐 tier.

I love this channel! Oh, how I wish the other excellent channels telling and retelling of historically accurate events, both military and otherwise, had this same great realistic production value! I always look forward to every one of your releases!

Browning: They've got bed for you upstairs if you want it. Urquhart: I took ten thousand men into Arnhem. I've come out with less than two. I don't feel much like sleeping. Browning: Quite. I've just been on to Monty. He's very proud and pleased. Urquhart: Pleased? Browning: Of course. He thinks Market Garden was 90% successful. Urquhart: But what do you think? Browning: Well, as you know, I always felt we tried to go a bridge too far.

The concrete base of bridge still holds the scars. However the actual bridge was destroyed by USAAF B-26's bombers on the 7th of October to prevent Germans sending in more reinforcements towards the fighting on "the island". This was the area between Arnhem and Nijmegen which became the front after the failure of MG. The bridge was rebuilt in 1950.
