Excellent advice, Chris. Another simple tip: Always wash your hands with soap and warm water (and thoroughly dry them) immediately before handling ties and pocket squares. This helps prevent the soiling of delicate silks with the natural oils, sweat and dirt that our fingers collect. Lastly, a trouser press and a hand-held clothes steamer are great investments for keeping trousers and jackets looking their best; linen garments especially.

That’s a good point. Rampley & Co are introducing a light coloured tie and I’ve given similar advice in the accompanying video. Thank you

I’ll go one step further, I put on a pair of disposable, powder-free Nitrile food prep gloves to handle my ties and pocket squares as dry skin can catch on silk and damage it.

I've been buttoning my jackets when hanging for years. The advice would have been better yesterday but today is the next best I guess 😂 Thanks for the tip

Hi Chris. I hope this is not too much to ask, but could you make a video showing how to press and steam suits, what products are recommended and any tips and tricks, aswell as showing general suit maintenance advice and how to clean them. Thanks.

Superb advice once again. Got a double breasted beige linen waistcoat last year and it is great with jackets.

Great video Chris. I follow all of your listed advice with one exception. I am a habitual long black sock wearer. It makes my life easier and one less thing to worry about. Sorry Chris, I hope you do not fall from your chair. 😀

Great video as always. Who makes the light blue shirt you’re wearing and/or the one on the left mannequin? Very nice shade.

I normally enjoy Chris' advices but now I am confused regarding suit maintenance. Derek Guy from Dieworkwear! had a recent thread discouraging steam on suits because it spoils fuses and may cause seams to shrink, causing bubbles and permanent creases, respectively. Is this wrong?

@chrismodoo6563 4 ай бұрын
Yeah…I think I may have read that. I stand by what I say.
@chrismodoo6563
@chrismodoo6563 4 ай бұрын
I just re-read the steamer comment. And a light steam refreshes a garment and removes wrinkles. It is not as good as a sponge & press and over-steaming could cause delamination of the fusing. But that would require a serious amount of moisture and/or poorly made tailoring.

Excellent advice, particularly with respect to shoes. I would add buy classic shoes in the first place - a pair of oxfords or loafers to name but two, properly cleaned. Nothing worse than a fashion shoe, and a dirty or scruffy one at that.

Very interesting and nothing that I disagree with. Can I add my thoughts? Take care of your clothes and shoes. You rightly mentioned keeping the shoes clean. Also keep them repaired. Iron your shirt properly; press your suit regularly (personally, I can’t stand trousers press and much prefer the old fashioned way). Clean ties, sqaures, socks are a must Personal grooming. Take care with your appearance. If you want that stubble look, it should mean, for me, untidy hair and dirty fingernails. Look like you are groomed Don’t buy new. For a faction of the price of something reasonably nice new, you can find and buy an excellent garment second hand. With a clean and some simple alterations, you have a Savile Row look for High Street prices or less. Understand what makes you feel good. If you feel shabby in a denim shirt and suit coat, then don’t wear it - no matter who says you should. If you feel great in an old tweed coat, then wear it. Self-confidence is the greatest single factor in making you happy and, thereby, looking good. My only gripe about these type of videos is that they are aimed at men with perfect figures. At 70, I have a larger stomach. So, my choices have to be in the knowledge of what suits my figure type and what does not. The perfect figured man may exist in Savile Row models and Bond Street but they are the exception. Please talk about styles for various shapes. Subscribed!

That’s a shame. The tailor needs to be protected, respected and rewarded. And I mean ALL tailors…we tend to think of tailors as the cutters in Savile Row but the local seamstress who can hem your trousers is also vital.

So is finding a good cobbler to resole your shoes. I have found a great one in a smaller town and no successor in sight.
