I cleaned my Ramsey 8k winch today. 28 yrs old seldom used. Cleaned connectors and solenoid nuts and copper straps. Used toilet cleaner 25 % acid cleaned off rust and corrosion works great.

use copper water pipe, hammer it flat and cut then drill holes. works for electrical cable ends too. hammer it flat and solder it in
@tylerbleepinjeep6069 жыл бұрын
That was my original idea but I just happened to have the copper plate laying around. The only thing I would add if using copper pipe is to anneal it after you pound it flat so it doesn't get brittle and break prematurely.
@bradleycampbell59339 жыл бұрын
sweet! no real reason to anneal it. copper is soft and will generally stay soft. and it is available all over the country and canada too. it is a great way to make a battery cable end as well.

Soldering works surprisingly well..I've slit, flattened, and soldered copper water pipe over a square body gas tank hole...

An owners manual that says when it breaks, just "Whack it with something!" Sounds like a great product! Put me down for an order, I want 10! 😊😎

Honestly that is a tried & true "fix" for a stuvk solenoid & something manynofvus have down on a starter over the years. It isn't a fix but it will get you buy which is the key if yourvrig is stuck & or you have 100' of cable spooled out.

I'm glad to see this can help. That's really why I do these videos, so hopefully you guys can fix your stuff when you see them. It sucks having to replace an $800 winch when the repair might be as simple as a piece of copper plate. I hope you can fix yours like I did! Thanks!

Well bad news, wasn't my issue. Pretty sure my switch is bad now. Everything looks like brand new inside plus being in AZ we get very little water/humidity issues. Still great info to put out there!!
@tylerbleepinjeep6069 жыл бұрын
try bridging the contacts where the switch plugs into the solenoid housing. If its just the switch, bridging the contacts will activate the winch. It doesn't hurt the winch either. Give that a try before you buy a new switch.

Great repair man ! kinda wonder why that split like that ? Must of been rattle in that bar and over time it cracked ..
@tylerbleepinjeep6069 жыл бұрын
ShawnMrFixit Lee Ya, I think over the years of wash-board roads it finally just fatigued and cracked. The copper straps hold the solenoids in place on the rail so there is a bit of vibration that goes through the straps as the solenoids jiggle going down the trail. I probably should have annealed all the plates but I didn't think of that until a few days after the repair.

It may hold up fine man ! good fix ..

@joshprice75459 жыл бұрын
Transmission
@tylerbleepinjeep6069 жыл бұрын
Ooooh... That's a bad one. You have to pull the whole tranny out to do it. I would recommend a complete rebuild at that point. If the pump seal is worn out, the guts are probably not far behind. It would be cheaper to find a low- mileage used tranny and swap it in.
