The only "street fight" I was ever involved in was a mugging, and I defended myself by hitting one of the 2 guys trying to mug me and ran as fast as I could. I got away because I ran into the light shouting for help while doing so. I did not know if the guys were armed or not, and was in no hurry to find out. There are a whole lot of dead heroes that stood their ground and got stabbed or shot for it.

Good choice. I've been shot because three guys tried to rob me. I thought they only had one gun, which I semi-successfully got control of. But I was wrong they had another which was used to shoot me in my hip. I got away and somehow one of them was shot in the process. I was young and thought that was a win. Now I'm 30 and think that was very reckless

@@stephen8996 you did the right thing when young. You're wrong to think you're reckless back then. You fight whenever you're attacked, make it a norm. Unfortunately here in Denmark oftentimes defending yourself against an attacker will often be viewed as participating in a street fight (similar to a misdemeanor - carries a fine). And you also risk charges and jail time if the other guy gets hurt because the court finds that you use more force than necessary.

That “size people up in the room” mentality hit home for me. I honestly felt that way for a long time, I thought it meant confidence. Thinking I can beat most people (I’m 6’4” 255 lbs). I started doing boxing for 15 months now and for a long time, I haven’t felt that way walking into a room anymore. I feel comfortable with myself. Training in boxing and getting ready for my first amateur bout gave me real confidence. Honing my craft in boxing really shined a light on my insecurities and since I gained REAL confidence, I don’t size people up anymore. Thanks for the motivation. Stay hungry.

A lot of people take years to realize that non-consensual fighting doesn't happen much after graduating school. Especially if they are surrounded by emotionally stunted men who actually do continue violent practices later in life; or if they are violent environments where assaults are regular (even though, as you aptly mentioned, these are very different in motivation and execution). So a lot of us get into combat sports looking to solve or prepare for a problem, that is no longer a threat. I did. It wasn't until after maybe a year and a half of Muay Thai and a year of BJJ that I eventually realized I'd likely *NEVER* use these skills On The Streetz. Still practice because it's a fun way to exercise, and really cool. But yeah, I spent at least a year practicing combat sports thinking ''okay, so this is my game plan if I'm ever in a street fight''.

There's a cookout near where I live and I love their milkshakes, and some of their food is decent. I often go there with friends and we hangout as it's a hangout joint near a college (it's a fast food place and they do not sell alcohol), but everytime I go there I always have an uncomfortable feeling and one time there was a group of people who did tease me. So, maybe I need to stay away from it.

Where I grew up, people would go out looking for a fight. They would drive around or walk around depending on their age and stare at people until someone stared back at them, which was enough justification in their mind to start a fight. “What are YOU looking at?!” was a common phrase I heard growing up and I just looked away and walked away. But lots of people puffed out their chest and yelled at each other and then punched and tumbled and punched some more. Those “street fights” were completely avoidable. What wasn’t avoidable for some people was what we called “getting jumped” which meant 5 or 6 guys would surround someone and punch and kick them for about 30 seconds then run away before teachers or cops could punish them. I only saw one guy survive this. He was literally twice as big as the 2 teens who attacked him. He looked like an adult male and they looked their age: 13. And he dominated, but that was just enough to survive, not to appear magical or like Bruce Lee. But all the other times, when multiple people your size attack you, you’re going to get hurt. I’m not saying they deserved to get “jumped” but it was usually because their gang jumped a member of the other gang and then his was payback; or else someone was threatening someone else and the threatened guy brought his friends to ensure victory.

I have had one fight in year 6 (about 10-11 years old), school fight not a street one, it was unavoidable. He suckerpunched me and hit me in the nuts (as master wong so eloquently puts it) everyone surrounded me, chanting "fight" as I remember. This guy was about half a foot taller than me. I don't know how I managed to beat him in hindsight, can't remember what I did exactly. But I do remember he left with a broken rib on his right hand side and a broken nose. Somehow we became friends afterwards, don't know how I managed that either.

I can understand the romanticized views of street fighting: Being a badass while protecting your pride and dignity with witnesses that will talk about it forever! Sounds nice. But even professional athletes can accidentally cause irreparable damage to fellow competitors. So you COULD walk away completely unscathed after sending a guy packing with one punch. You could also lose an eye because the person decided they were going to gouge it. You could die because the guy got embarrassed and grabbed a weapon to kill you with. Unrestricted fighting should always be a last resort because nobody has trained enough to be immune to bullets and knives.

Kinda like how soldiers and martial artists aren't allowed to throw a punch as a means of self defense unless they are against more than one opponent or the opponent in question has a weapon. This is because by military regulation, a soldier is not permitted to react until they are in immediate danger. So to the people that walk up to soldiers and act tough, just remember that this guy only walked away because he'd be better off snapping you neck than punching. This same logic applies to any martial artist. They walk away because they can get a life sentence for throwing a punch so the reality is that in walking away, they are simply performing the highest level of self defense possible. The highest form of self defense is to remove yourself from the equation.

I like the answer No. You get a lot of MMA fighters or BJJ practitioners (Or fight wannabes.) Who comment on every traditional martial art video, "This is crap, this won't work on the street." Like the only purpose to learn any martial art is street fighting. Yes there are muggings and maniacs trying to hurt you, but the best defense is awareness. To avoid troublesome places and don't go out late at night alone.

This happened to me quite recently. I was outside a bar hanging out with my dudes and having fun. Than suddenly some drunken guy wanted to start a fight with me. I kinda wanted to fight him, but long story short it didn't happen. I kind of talked it down and eventually some of his friends dragged him away. I know its the best solution, but as you said in previous videos, that young mans ego (im 18) makes me feel like i "should teach him a lesson". That is stupid. I mean, most of street fights are avoidable just by stepping of xd.

But all seriousness, basically exercise sound judgement, threat assessment, and de-escalation, plus being humble and not making yourself a target, and no martial arts school can teach that. My sifu, granddad, and uncle once told me to talk your way out of a fight, walk away, if that don't work then run away, if all else fails and they still chase you down and corner you, then they might have to die. You warned them by de-escalating the tension, walking/running away. And i think i heard Master Dewey said in a previous video to " Never street fight unless you are getting paid for it, or actual self-defense" ,mostly self-defense tho. The greatest smartest way to avoid a street fight- BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS!

first - every street fight i've ever seen ends with one guy getting knocked on his ass or by getting his ass beat. if you're drunk you generally don't run out of gas, you tend to think you're superman even if you look like an idiot. maybe i'm a bit bias on this but a lot of my adult life i was in the military and usually that asshole picking a fight with you can actually fight and we used to train for endurance, lots of running, etc. so this always meant you couldn't avoid a fight you didn't have a choice and it wasn't usually two loudmouths who couldn't fight. after the military it usually meant if you got into that situation you usually didn't have a choice half the time either since you'd usually get jumped by more than one person. so in a nutshell, half the time i'd get the bully or attackers to back off, the other half you couldn't avoid a fight. so should you start a fight, no. should you avoid fighting if you can, sure. should you always be ready to fight and defend yourself, yes because eventually out in the real world you will have to. from what i heard, you are mixing up a simple high school fight and movies with what a martial artist should do. that is the problem, it's easy to hide in a gym, give yourself cute little titles like martial artist, mma, master, whatever and tell people you shouldn't fight, people who don't come to a gym or dojo can't fight etc., walk out that door you find all that stuff is often smoke and mirrors and sometimes that joker you think is an untrained loud mouth isn't and through experience is really good at what he does, that's why he does it. the most dangerous person sometimes isn't that guy going to the gym taking classes who has limits, it's the other guy who has no rules, no limits and no morals. however, i will tell you they are usually far between especially in today's day and age. what they lack in skill and guts today individually they try to make up for it using a mob mentality, unlike a few decades ago when a fight was usually between two people settling an argument or something. in a street fight the basic rule is usually to use enough force to get the other to quit, an assault means they attacked you and you need to use any means necessary to stop them because they mean to either very badly hurt you or kill you. don't confuse the two. if all this still confuses you and your parents never really did the parent thing i'll keep one rule simple, you never start a fight, always defend yourself when attacked. this usually means when they physically make contact with you with intent to hurt you.

Well done on insisting that people should only use Martial Art on the street for DEFENCE and not for attack Ramsey... Self Defence being a LEGAL term this has implications because these could vary in different parts of the world....Young testosterone males do feel aggressive & want to test themselves but most people grow out of this impulse. Alcohol can be a provocative agent but these people tend to be macho/violent mindset whether drunk or sober....One thing that concerns me about MMA & the street is that in CCTV footage of fights we are seeing an increasing number of altercations where young people who watch MMA are clearly imitating MMA fighting techniques in the footage....Now I'm not saying this is the fault of the sport itself & clearly the people in the footage are not real MMA fighters. But I have a nightmare about youth indulging in an arms race of inappropriate misuse of this stuff in the street...The only criticism for the fight perfect lads were when they showed some of this footage more for entertainment than for educational purposes...But that has to be balanced against their very good video about escalating knife crime in the UK & its social & legal components.

I did Eskrima for 4 years in college. The most important lesson I learned in that street-fighting based, sparring heavy, weapon-based martial art was when they gave me a knife, first day of class. The teacher (an upperclassman) told me to act out the part of a robber as a demonstration for the class of how a well-traveled practitioner would handle the situation. I was giggling a bit, I think, as I looked at the other freshmen and shrugged before saying "Uh, give me your money?". This man who would put me through 4 years of knife sparring, beat my hands in until they were numb in sparring, and could probably beat 5 of us at once on a good day, calmly reached into his back pocket and handed me his wallet. The upperclassmen all told us to never ever ever ever get into a street fight, to never ever feel comfortable in a knife fight, to never think our training will protect us from the hundreds of things that could go wrong and turn us into an obituary. If a guy asks for your wallet you give it to him, you defend your life, not your money, you don't defend anything but your life.

Now retired after 30 yrs of law experience, sizing everyone in the room up is the second thing I always do, after checking out where all the entrances and exits are. Then I choose a seat where I can sit and make sure no one can get behind me without me seeing them. This ingrained habit hurts no one, although it does annoy my wife sometimes. No one else really notices. I am very proud of the fact I have never had a streetlight, obviously I have had to use force many times as a police officer. I can already answer this one. As someone who has regrettably had his fair share of street fights. I would be lying to say I regret every single fight, but I regret the majority of them. My right hand is all chewed up now too and doesn't have full range of motion in some fingers. As someone who has played guitar for 15 years it's something I regret massively. The last 5 years it's just been too much of a pain to play because of stupid street fights. Obviously there are times when it's unavoidable too. They're just rarer.

@@deivytrajan I mean it depends on a lot of things. One scenario I was being blocked by a group of people, about 10 behind and 2 in front. I was sandwiched. I had to go one way or the other so I chose the easiest way. I didn't want to but I was genuinely terrified it was only when the guy grabbed ahold of me did I do anything. They never even said what they wanted. It happened in the same village I live in and while I was going shopping for my grandad. In my younger days I would react to taunting and teasing and sometimes that escalated into fights... which are the stupid avoidable ones.

@desnebula5699
@desnebula5699 4 жыл бұрын
Drunken boxing works. Its the only way to fight off multiple opponents or armed attacked. You dont have to sway like Jackie Chan did, the trick is to seem unprepared. Maybe have your arms down, do an exaggerated flinch. Look scared. This makes your attacker feel safe in going for a big looping right hand, or a very obvious stabbing motion. These are easy to block/counter. The problem with defending a knife attack or any attack while in fighting stance means that your attacker will also get into fighting stance instead of going for a big looping attack they'll go for a more technical attack and that is impossible to defend against. Especially a knife attack. This is something ive practised extensively and let me tell you its fucking impossible to block/disarm a knife attack if your opponent does a fake-attack to get you to try defend it.

The environment is designed to make u want to be drunk, the serve u as much booze as possible, shots, stuff to get people as smashed as possible. Once the club has all their money and the moment one over does it the bouncer throws them in the street where the cab drivers, cops, and all manner of low life street dwellers gets a free shot while someones motor functions, sensory perception, judgement and brain capacity are compromised.

If you believe that you are likely to get into many fights, you likely will get into many fights. One, that which you send out to the Universe is always sent back to you. Send out a vibe of being ready for conflict, for a fight, and you're probably going to find one. Two, you are probably walking around with a proverbial chip on your shoulder, just ready to cross any imaginary line, commit any imaginary affront. You probably talk about fights, act a certain way, frequent certain establishments... I speak from experience. 138 unsanctioned fights (64 of them were arranged bare knuckle fights for wagering, prize money, usually in or behind a warehouse, maybe a barn, or a truckyard with tractor trailers parked around the fight area), all between 16 and 32 years old. I never lost a tooth, never broke my own bones, never had my nose broke, and I absolutely loved the competition. I am so happy my life is so different and I never care to fight anyone, anywhere, at anytime. When my mindset changed, because I hurt someone severely who jumped me in a liquor store parking lot, my whole life changed. I'm happy now. I wasn't then.

In Europe it's common to go to bars and clubs and while there might be venues where aggression happens, the vast majority of those I've been to are filled with docile people who just wanna have fun and clown around. I can count the number of incidents that I've witnessed on one hand and I haven't seen anyone with a weapon in any place of the places I've been at, though I'm so avert to violence I might be instinctively avoiding anything that looks like trouble.

We clearly have different definition. I call every fight happened "on the street", a street fight. China has one of the worst, if not the worst self defense law. I read enough in recent, that people got charged and jailed for defending their own life or their family, while crime still in progress. Example 1: a disabled guy was charged because he killed (with a knife) a drunk who forcefully broke into his home/business at mid night, threatening the safety of himself and his family. The authority charged him because he used too much force. Example 2: a man was charged murder because he killed a man who was raping his wife, in the fight he was attempt to stop the crime. Example 3: an old couple was charged and jailed for murder because their daughter's violent ex boyfriend, frequently threatening their safety, at one night, jumped into their home with knife, attacking them, and they were simply fighting back, in the process killed him. The examples goes on and on. In the eyes of Chinese authority, you are the criminal if you defend your life (or your loved one/family). So you are technically right to say "never" in China, because they have the most retarded laws regarding self defense.

@psyience3213
@psyience3213 4 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarsRockForever no that's what I'm saying. That's a common misconception. Every state is different. New York is a duty to retreat state. That means you are Always obligated to try to get away, including inside your own home, as it is also a state without castle doctrine. Castle doctrine in our common law means you kill anyone who is breaking into your home, no questions asked basically. It's also illegal to own a pistol unless the state issues you a license. People go to prison all the time for killing or even shooting at people in their homes. One case not too long ago, someone was breaking into a guy's shed so he fired his shotgun into the air. He was arrested for illegal discharge of a firearm. New York state protects the criminals. Just look at our new bail reform law, which releases people who rape kids and rob banks. Every state in the united states is different.
@GuitarsRockForever
@GuitarsRockForever 4 жыл бұрын
@@psyience3213 Well, even that, you guys are in better position. Say someone broke into your home, you had no where to run and the bad guy chased you to a dead end, started to attack you with a big knife. Most likely, under NY law, you could fight him and if in the process, you killed him unintended, you will be fine. Under Chinese law however (assume you are not rich/powerful), it seems you could only fight him and possibly hurt him at the moment of the attack. Meaning if he wanted to stab you, only at the flash of time while the his knife was in motion, you could defend yourself. If the knife already inside your body, the attack was done and you cannot fight back. That's how retarded Chinese laws are.
@psyience3213
@psyience3213 4 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarsRockForever it's not even that cut and dry. you would have to prove that killing him was either an accident or unavoidable. The state doesn't care about innocent until proven guilty. The burden of proof is on you. Often times the statement you give immediately after the traumatic event is what they base their case on. You say 1 wrong thing, whether you're right or not, and your done for. I dint agree with these kinds of laws im just saying, there are places even in the united states that are similar to China. I like how ramsey is kind of a shill for those communists.

That part about staying away from alcohol and night club partying etc I can really feel, since I never consume alcohol or drugs exactly because of the reasons mentioned in the video (which are also the reasons many religions forbid or look down upon those things; as a Muslim I practice one of those religions) . But because I have some good friends who do sometimes go to such places and party etc and take me with them, I had some experiences being there and not being under influence of alcohol it really hits home just how volentile the atmosphere can be at times in the party scene... Not being intoxicated luckily saved me (and them) from danger several times. But after a few times in danger and fortunately coming out of it unscathed :) , I just began refusing to go with them going out at night because of the unnecessery risk involved, simply because I am not their babysitter ^_^ Besides, there are better and more relaxing ways for me to enjoy my time in this world :) Anyways, I love your preaching , keep it up! 48 years on this earth and I wish I could have heard this advice 30 years ago. It would have saved me a chipped tooth, 2 broken bones in my hands, 3 fractured ribs, and money more properly invested in my looming retirement. What is the best way to win a potential confrontation? The ability to influence your opponents with your intellect via compelling and convincing arguments will reap more rewards than simply throwing a punch. IE, whenever possible talk your way out. Rhetoric and logic will take you much further in life than your willingness to fight. Now if you are being assaulted and you are within arms reach...I highly recommend gouging the assailants eyes with extreme prejudice. And then promptly extracting yourself from the area. Best advice I could ever give is this...if you feel that you need to fight, or need any sort of weapon, before you go someplace perhaps you shouldn't go in the first place. Minimize your risks, stay safe, and remain vigilant.
