I watched this vid 2 yrs ago and really enjoyed it. Saved it in a folder to someday watch again. Well since then, I received a serious health diagnosis that found me in a hospital bed for weeks at a time or convalescing at home here in Alaska. These confinement periods were the perfect time to watch hunting vids and believe me they helped get me through. Another reason I watched so many videos was because I wanted to create and upload a vid to KZbin of a tok sheep hunt I did in 2016, which I finally loaded in March. Watching other vids, both good and not so good was a great learning tool. Today I watched yours again, and I have to say, that after watching virtually every sheep hunting video available, yours stands out as the best. There are many reasons for this but the one that stands out. I found that in practically every other sheep video, the hunters go on and on about how difficult what they're doing is. Statements like, "we just climbed 1500 feet" and "now we gotta pack this ram in our 100 lb packs 12 miles back to the airstrip " or "you really got to be in shape if you want to hunt sheep", etc, etc. None of these things of course need to be said because it is self evident by watching their films how much work is involved; other sheep hunters know this from experience but even flatland hunters most likely arrive at the same conclusion. Watch enough of these vids and after awhile it comes across as boasting...and it gets old. I watched a popular Canadian hunter on a sheep hunt recently who couldn't get away from boasting about his great shape. He took a very nice ram and then told his viewing audience, "I earned this ram". Really? Did you? Thanks for telling me because what, I couldn't tell that by watching the video? But your video Logan, even though over an hour long, didn’t do that which is a rarity. You didnt boast about your feats, but rather met the demands of your hunt with Alex as they came. It was obvious to all who have seen this vid, how much work was involved.....without self praise. In fact, when terrain, weather issues arose you guys actally made light of the matter or even laughed at yourselves (as in climbing the hill twice to make sure sheep were still there). This is all a very long way of saying that one seemingly small factor about your vid makes a huge difference in my opinion. Great job. That so many have viewed it speaks to that.

Spectacular...the hunt, the video, the whole thing. You captured the essence of DIY sheep hunting including positive attitude, perseverance, and interactions between two great partners. Unfortunately, this is the first sheep vid I've seen in years where the participants weren't decked out in cammo clothing sporting a 'K' somewhere....haha. Great job.

Thanks Rich! I'm with you. I can't stand all the camo out there being pushed upon new hunters.. It's certainly not required, nor fashionable in my humble opinion!
@loganevans9074 жыл бұрын
@@intheice I hear where you are coming from. I'm sure the gear is great and do have a lot of hunting buddies that swear by it! It is fairly affordable and high quality outdoor gear. I just don't think it needs to be thought of as "essential" equipment to get after some big game. By all means if people want to rock camo gear, they should do it, and that is obviously their choice. I think the biggest thing is wearing darker colors, but of course my bright blue Patagonia is probably not the best choice haha. Cheers and thanks for watching the video!

@@jimgodfrey233 Camo is definitely not required or fashionable. I've shot all my sheep up north less than a hundred yards away wearing a pair of cargo pants and a wind breaker. Was just saying the material that is being made now a days makes it way more comfortable.

Great video. My brother and I used to hunt sheep with my dad in the Baird Mountains of NW AK. We got some bruisers over the years. The unit’s been closed for many years now due to low pop numbers. Climate change I guess. I’m born and raised in Kotzebue and trap and hunt all year long. Our winters are long, cold, windy, and dark. For the life off me I don’t know how any of these Dall Sheep survive winters up here. Rough country. I have 3 girls now and two boys. My boys have never been able to hunt sheep. So sad because it’s such a memorable, difficult, but super rewarding hunt. Hopefully one of these years before I get too old our unit 23 sheep hunt will reopen. But if not I need to go find a place like ram town to take them. I’m 51, my boys are 14 and 18. As for now, I can only watch videos and reminisce. Thanks again.

Thanks! The rafts handled very well, we were both very impressed with them. Dry suits are a MUST however. I was rockin a DIY packraft the "V3" model, and Alex was in an Alpacka Classic. The Mule you have should be able to handle much more than our rafts. Perhaps a Sheep AND a Caribou??
