I'm just jealous. No yacht anymore, circumstances. Nice to see this. You guys know your limits by experience. Last video I saw was abandoning yacht (Dove 2) after the main sheet broke. I wasn't there, but I think that skipper got a kind of panic attack. Good thing is, they got rescued (man, wife and two young children). But really, letting go such a great yacht, I am sure you would have sailed it home and he didn't. I must respect his choice, again I wasn't there, who am I? Sailing a family, losing your rudder, getting wife and children rescued, would you try sailing solo using an emergency rudder? Depends on the ship and the trip ahead, I guess.

I had to turn back when I was sailing my Cutlass 32 from Kirkwall Orkney to Walls on Shetland and onward to the Faroe Islands. My bottle had gone due to the increase in wind knots. I never ever made it to the Faroe Islands. A cracking video of how bad it can get.

Awesome video! It’s actually about sailing. So many of them are about the people, their baby, and the dog. The boat is almost an afterthought. And good on them if that’s what you like, but this is what I want to sea. I sail with a friend on his 32’ sloop but I can’t get used to the boat listing hard over like that. You’re so up-close to those waves you could kiss them. There was a couple of 5:58 times there when the ocean almost kissed you back! Thanks for sharing your experience with the rest of us. Fair winds and following seas! 🌊🌊🌊⛵️🌊🌊🌊⛵️🌊🌊🌊

Man this video brings me back so many years... During our holiday many years ago(I think 1991, at least before we had GPS) our family crossed the north sea from Denmark to Norway in similar conditions. My brother got seasick, puking his guts out and my mother was crying and whimpering that we all were going to die... Meanwhile my dad and I were stearing, handling the sail and manually navigating. I think we were both internally shouting:"Yeah bring it on!" lol Those were good times and like some comments say: too bad the camera doesn't do any justice. Great video man!

Stupid question. All of my sailing has been coastal British Columbia and Haiti. There is flotsam aplenty and at times heavy timbers that may punch the hull. Also Orcas and seals however they are curious and nonaggressive. Sometimes scary! At sea have you had the occasion to be imperilled by floating obstacles or large sea life? Hats off to your skills, bravery and acquired knowledge. The early Norsmen and Pacific Islanders would accept you as an equal.

I was at sea for 3 weeks in 1987. A tropical depression and a nor’easter came together. For about 3 days we had waves which make the waves in this video seem very small. This looks rough but by no means extreme. My experience is limited but the waves we were in were the size of skyscrapers. I wonder how often conditions are that rough? I have only sailed a few times but my impression is this video shows a rough but normal sea storm. It is not extreme based on my limited experience. We had many days of these conditions and a couple of days that were far worse. Is my impression correct?
