PLEAAASSEEE build the classic and historic aviation workhorse, the maddog MD-80 series jet! These beauties were the staples of the skies for many regional American airports in the 90's and early 2000s, and now they are nearly extinct! That would be awesome to see someone with your craftsmanship tackle a project like that because most don't (at least not accurately). The MD-80 is so underrated and doesn't receive nearly enough recognition for its unique physical form that you just don't see in aviation anymore.

Great video! You make some great work! But be carefull when cuttin carbon fibres, they are very hazardous it is very small fibres that goes deep into the lungs. Use dense filter mask and maybe a little water on what you cut! ;) Carbon is every where in our world and very few thinks of the danger of it! Keep up the good work :)

For torsional strength consider using ribbons made of nylon or polyestor for their strength and thinness. A spiral rap in contradicting directions will help keep the plane from twisting without adding thickness to the fuselage . Your work is immaculate .

The build is pretty cool. Doing it all from scratch? WOW!. And.... interesting solution for the nose gear angle, but why bother?
@christophergrow6 жыл бұрын
You have lots of electronics on this... Given the landing gear are fragile, I would consider adding a gyro to the ailerons and elevators. You should be able to get it rock solid in wind. Landing would be easier because you don't have to pay as much attention to roll and pitch. You can then focus more on speed and descent rate. I'm sure you have RealFlight.. give it a try.

Ramy, For wing flex, you could make top and bottom wing skins using a mould (like your landing bay doors), but lighter. basically, so they are long tips, starting from the engine mounts. Have no chords in them so the chord can compress and the epoxy skin will flex. so basically you have top and bottom skins, with no internal structure from the engine mounts outward. Fishing rods use a similar principle
@RamyRC6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice Chris!
@cloudserph6 жыл бұрын
Another thing to consider is when laying up woven fiberglass with fibers that run 0 and 90 degrees, the bending occurs at 45 degrees. So it would be best to lay up the fabric 45 degrees to direction of flight.
@Magic101trainer6 жыл бұрын
That would help, particularly on the TOP of the wing, as it will also compress slightly more than longitudinally. With the top in an aerodynamic airfoil shape, I agree that maximum flex would be on the diagonal. Ramy, Have you tried vacuum bagging your epoxy skins yet? reasonably easy to do with small pieces with reasonably flat surfaces. It will also reduce the amount of fairing smooth. If you have 7 to a 10kg suction vacuum cleaner, plastic and tape, it can be cheaply done.
