Hi Carson, great reason to have a drone on the ranch, to help find stray cows. Glad that you were able to find 2 pair and hopefully Casey's cows will show up eventually. Those horses had bad timing to spook the cows just when you were trying to load them on the trailer. Have to say they were some beautiful looking horses. Looks like another successful day is done on the ranch.

Crazy what little snow there is up there. Them cows feel no need to come down if the snow doesn’t push them down. Same thing here in Southwest Alberta. Very little snow up high so even the cow elk are spending their days almost in summer range. Thanks for the video.

Great video!! Its amazing how those drones can help find lost cattle in such rough country! I was so happy you got your cows home, and I know you were even happier than I was. Hiya, Thank you for the video; I enjoyed it; a lot. Your dead battery problem; I'd fit isolators to the tractors. So many have a drain that slowly drains down the charge to zero. That is not good for the battery at all. In not an extended period, the isolator pays for itself plus fitting. Flat batteries cost you money, mainly in time lost but also in having to change them sooner than you should, and they are costly. Stay safe, Steve...

First of all those drone shot are amazing…. They are definitely a great investment….. I love those drone shots just a way to see the overall picture of the area….Those cows were moving along pretty nice and easy until the 2 trouble makers showed up…those 2 black crazy horses….Those horses spooked those cows and I thought Oh no!!! I thought they were going back into trees again….I enjoyed the story about the cow surrounded by wolves and mountain lions and it was eager to jump in the trailer to get home where they knew they were going to safe. I always wondered how much trouble you have with cows up in the mountains with all the elements…predators and natural problems…. Great video…just so you know..I look forward to your videos….Thanks again for sharing the life in the Dakotas….Until the next time…Have a great day…❤

Hi Carson, what do you guys have for native grasses down there? Up here we have rough fescue and it seems to keep the animals’s weight on for the most part throughout the winter. I feed all my horses a flake or two once a day and the rest of the time they graze all winter. I know that a lot of ranchers love that rough fescue because it brings down feed costs. What are your thoughts on native vs exotic grasses ranching in the Black Hills? Thanks for the awesome videos and countless hours of editing.

Question….do you not count cows going up to the mountain and again when you bring them home? If not can you explain why you don’t? Thank You!
@sleepranch Жыл бұрын
Great question! We have a very accurate count on the cows when they go up to the mountains but our count when we round up usually isn’t as accurate. We’ll have a bunch of riders bringing in small groups so each person keeps track of what the bring in but it’s always hard to get accurate when that happens. We also have a set date we need to be off the forest and rarely do we have all our cows rounded up by then. So there will be some left until we are able to find them up there!

We do count them but it’s hard to get an accurate count since lots of people are bringing in small groups at a time. Cows will be in the neighbors too so you never know how many are in there, it’s just really hard to get an accurate count
