Troy helped me two years ago with his videos and emails. Just pulled my arrows out after a year hiatus and they’re dialed in 40 yard darts-and I’m not very skilled. Just saw the Nock On podcast and it was a fantastic display of Troy’s patience, confidence, and humility while being questioned by someone who really didn’t know what Troy has been teaching and how he gives us informational tools-not blind prescriptions.

Got my kit and had a few hiccups because my bow was not all squared up, Troy gave me a list of things to try out and the first two got me right. 3 different configurations shot bullet holes for me. You just can’t go wrong with Sirius and Mr Fowler. Now I’ve ordered my Apollos and I’m super excited. Couldn’t be happier. If you are on the fence or scared to tinker like I was, DONT BE! They don’t leave you hanging and you can do it.

Nice work by @Ranch Fairy and Dr Ashby. We Sikhs in particular can appreciate what you do because in our religion we bow down towards weapons and no1 appears to be focusing on the point more than you/Dr Ashby. Thanks

THANKS Troy for all your help, i am a new archer. I finally am shooting a real arrow, but you must stick with the process tinker tinker . Eventually, you arrive . I now know by this process my arrow correct lenth ,spine broadhead wt for my arrow and bow to work together . Like the man I too have about every arrow out there testing trying to find one that would fly right. I almost gave up until I reach out to Troy . This is not for the faint of heart it takes work ,commitment, time, and persistence, but all it does is train you on how to use your tools on the bow perfectly . Those guys at Sirius can't say enough good things about them, so willing to help you all the way. Happy hunting.

Troy, I've been following you from the beginning. I've also been studying Ashby studied for years. I've been shooting since the 80s. I personally enjoy your autopsies or whatever you call them. I wish you had time to do even more. Keep it up.

I think that all bowhunters that hunt with compound bows should choose a stiffer shaft than they think they will need. I have been bare shaft tuning for 20+ years and it improves the arrow flight VERY much. And it is also better for penetration. I always bare shaft tune out to at least 20 yards and even at times shoot them out to 30 yards just because I love to see how extremely well the bare shafts fly that far.

Troy thanks for all the help and guidance. Love the videos and all you do for bowhunters and the Ashby Foundation. Two elk so far with total pass throughs quartering in and quartering away and no blood trailing was needed.

I like you Troy have been shooting my bow BC (before carbon), but I have learned a great deal from your videos. I am in my sixties and still love flinging arrows at critters. I had never bare shaft tuned or nock tuned an arrow before. I am truly amazed when an arrow that is kicke'n to the side but ends up pointing back at me. then I turn the nock a 1/4 turn and wow no more kick just thwump. Thanks again and keep up the good work and make'n that gas money. BTW I love whatch,n you shoot stuff.

Great information. I went to a heavier arrow setup last year with my new bow. PSE Fortis 27.5 draw length at 70lbs. 250 Goldtip, 100 grain brass insert, and a 150 grain Magnus stinger. Not sure if it was just me or the arrows but didn't seem to shoot great groups past 25 yards. Definitely will be looking into bareshaft tuning this spring. I did manage to harvest what we would call a management buck back on the farm. At 20 yards put it right through his heart. The trauma around the ribcage was unreal!!!

Right now I’m between bows. I have $ money set aside to buy one. I plan to order the test kit right after I get my bow figuring that would be the best time to decide what RF arrow I’m going to shoot. Troy, along with the Hunting Public guys, have convinced me this is the way to go.

Hey Troy, u should do like a 40 day countdown to build tge highest matching set of arrows u can make. Get them done now b4 February is over, cuz this is the best time to be indoors working on a project to pay dividends later in the year. My project this Jan/Feb is for a set of iLF limbs i got last year. Turns out that the 52 lb limbs r perfect for my 400 spine shafts that tuned perfect last year by early April. Bare or not. I'm making some 500 spine shafts in the upcoming weeks for my 46 lb limbs i don't even have a riser for yet. But I'm confident thst when the new riser is available that I will beat the 40 DAY WARNING with flying colors 😅 .

I put new gas bowstring on my Mathew’s Hyperlite, had to start all over with running my bow but when I was done I was shooting bare shaft bullet holes 5-6 yards just to make sure arrow was coming off the bow straight and square, the super nova SD are legit !!! I figured at 6 yards if I’m getting bullet holes then my tune is good

I did do an experiment with different shafts. The Gold Tip and the Sirius SuperNova 300 spine with 100 grain inserts shot very close to each other. The SuperNova did shoot heavier points in my longbows better. But the other shafts from pile drivers to the micro were weird
@RanchFairy8 ай бұрын
I too was amazed. Different carbon different launch
@fasmola8 ай бұрын
I enjoy this process! Once you have the “good” kids performing well, my confidence is much higher during the hunt. Just curious if anyone knows (maybe a dumb question): why not just use a 250 spine in everything? Would it be better for the arrow to flex less when it comes off the string? It seems like it would eliminate the guess work on spine/insert/broadhead weight.
@RadDadisRad8 ай бұрын
Micro shaft vs standard diameter is a big difference in shaft specs because insert vs outsert. From my experience.

Started looking for a truly affordable arrow/arrow build. There does not appear to be any. I understand that the prices of everything have gone up but $200+ per dozen just isn't affordable. Are there any options out there in the sub $200 or even sub $100 a dozen ranges

Off topic, but a question for you or another potential test video. Been watching various you tube videos regarding different vane styles and noise comparisons, including yours from a few years back. It seems to me that the "thump" of the bow is not all that unnatural of a sound. The hiss of the approaching arrow makes me twitch, LOL! How about testing the critters (pigs) reaction to just the thump of a bow sound without the hiss of a projectile approaching. Don't know how you would do it but could be enlightening!! With deer, there is always normal sounds in the woods, other deer, squirrels, nuts falling, yada yada! That arrow hiss is something totally different and foreign. Anyways, just a thought on what could be very informative!! Thanks in advance.

I am with you on this and I think any arrow platform sounds like a helicopter to them. No way to know. I can't speak deer.
@jmyhre73408 ай бұрын
@RanchFairy You see lots of videos of deer jerking there head up and staring on alert. Another deer, squirrel, limb falling, etc, but they often settle down and resume other behavior. Nothing like the duck and dive as the arrow approaches. I'm convinced we need something to quiet our arrows down. Another test would be to compare a typical arrow with field point, then sound of same arrow with various broadhead styles. So much fun and stuff to experiment with. Good hunting 👍

Hello I recently seen you on a pod cast and like so many others I have a few questions. I just started shooting a crossbow. I am bought into the super sharp broad head that long and narrow. I looked at Mr Ashbys heads and they look awesome. My question is about the crossbow bolt. What are your recommendations for getting that heavy bolt to go with that broad head?

Question . Do you have an opinion about spinning inserts with fixed blade broad-heads for hunting whitetail deer ?
@RanchFairy8 ай бұрын
first - the CLAIMS have NEVER been tested but the manufacturer who apparently has a magic potion. Second If the tip of your pool cue spins....but you don't push the pool cue straight....will the cue ball go straight? Here's the magic Bare Shaft Nock tune and done. See my arrow tuning and building playlist. Holler with questions troy@ranchfairy.com

When you say 300 spine is not the same you can compare that to shooting rifles if your shooting say 100gr. bullets from different brands you will find one or 2 shoots in the same hole and others may look like you shot the target with buckshot i can definitely see carbon being different
