That is perhaps the best county department I have ever seen do this. They were all exactly where they should be and did a great job keeping the driveways clean. This is the best way to keep up on low use roads. Thanks for the awesome video!

Worked for the state highway dept. for 26 years. Never ever saw chip and seal put down on fresh blacktop. Always used chip and seal instead of patch paving to save time and money.

the brown liquid, means its a bitumen emulsion(water) instead of straight bitumen. it will dry black once the water evaporates.

Thanks for the video! Just wondering, if a new layer of asphalt was put down, why not a second? I'm guessing the chip sealing is a lower cost alternative?

We are contemplating doing something like this to our one mile long street that is public access but not publicly maintained. Trying to get twenty neighbors to agree on something is proving to be impossible. But thanks for clearly "video-splaining" what a chip seal is and how a good one is done.

You need to form a comity of all neighbors. Get all to sign off on a road care fund and a vote on how to use said fund. This way all can chip in to the fund say monthly of quarterly. For X amount of time to use the money towards the roads care. If there is a surplus above a given amount suspend X payments to the fund is below the max budget threshold.

This process rarely goes down well with motorists as the chippings tend to flick up at their cars. It is a good way to maintain the road though and covers up unsightly cracks and previous repairs well.
