Today I show you why we need to replace all 3 evap coils on this Randell maketable. I go through the entire process of un brazing all the old parts and rebuilding and installing the new evaps, thermostat, new drier and of course added new refrigerant.
Today I finally had time to cut open the compressor that was murdered by an improperly placed filter drier. Enjoy

I've been in the trade for 35+ years. Even an old guy like me can learn something new. Pay attention to this young man. I like his approach and thought process. Our trade has too many parts changers. It's important see the big picture and properly diagnose the issues at hand.

Could have gotten in this trade but never did. Still learning a lot of this stuff anyway after 45 years. I don’t know if I’ll ever use it except for car systems but like to learn anyway.

Next time you are scrapping a old condensing unit.. Take the condenser out, with fan and wiring.. Then put a scherder valve on the inlet and outlet of the condenser.. Put it between your tank and recovering unit.. Remember to plug in the fan on the condenser.. And now your tank won't get so hot... Make a little Fram for the condenser and a socket on the wiring for the fan... Because when it looks good and cool, you get street cred😎👍😊 The condenser on this unit is perfect for the job.. Maybe put in a more powerful fan if needed

Not a HVAC-R guy but I have a question. Nitrogen is used to prevent carbon flakes forming inside the copper right? Is this not a critical thing or only happens in closed lines? I noticed that no nitrogen was flowing on the bottom evap coil and the solenoid was not open with a magnet. Not finger pointing, genuinely curious.

Tight spots like that I always used Staybright on refrigerant Controls.
@davejohnsonnola2758
@davejohnsonnola2758 5 жыл бұрын
I've been using Staybrite on all my small reach in equipment. First with my ancient Prestolite mapp gas torch handle and more recently with an air acetylene turbo torch. Like the lower temps and no nitrogen needed but working in tight spots have had some collateral damage from the big flames and now want to experiment with oxy acetylene. Most of what I work on is 1/4" liquid and 3/8" suction. What size oxy-acetylene tips do you use especially in close quarters?ķ

blowing through copper pipe is common on oxygen/acetelene, lots of guys will use turbo torches to prevent that. I've done it myself. I never lug all that shit around anymore, it turbo and an MC for me. You mentioned sensing bulbs for the rails... Is there more than one metering device, and sov ?
@curioushvacguy6876
@curioushvacguy6876 5 жыл бұрын
Hey HVAC01453- interesting, I used to use a turbo torch exclusively but had issues getting txvs brazed in, maybe due to low heat or me not doing something right-- so I switched. On this particular unit there is a TXV in the lower evap, and one TXV for each rail up top. There fun little units to work on, even better if your not trying to do all that while there open and stepping all over you. Thanks for the feedback

@@curioushvacguy6876 If Im doing a brass distributor head or large TXV I use oxygen/acet to try heat it up quickly. I like to disassemble parts when possible to prevent damaging seals like teflon or O rings....a power head... I sometimes switch to solder in an attempt to try limit the heat applied.

I might as well subscribe and be done with it. I LIKE what you do and how you do it and tell about it but the goofy part is I'm a mostly retired and retarded truck driver and equipment operator and the only thing I've ever done in these lines is change a bulb in a cooler, clean the dust bunnies out of the coils and build an ice shield over our heat pump outside unit. So if you won't run me off for not being a member of the club I'd really like to tag along. And I used to be fur faced but it's easier for me to keep it ground off these days.

@@curioushvacguy6876 the only caution is that I once put down my torch without closing off the torch.... I put it down while on..... I didnt hear the flame go out as I was use to. I smelt the burn and couldn't believe what I had done. I'm cautious about that now.... Ive lost quite a bit of my hearing in my right ear now after 23years in the Army and about 28 years doing this....
