I make my own. Got scrap leather pieces at hobby lobby and sew my own. for 30 dollars in material and tools, couple KZbin videos, you make your own. you can make 15 to 20 o them depending on scrap sizes of leather. I add a flashlight holder to mine. I use a small stream light,olight, or nite ize light. Not professional looking but functional. You can make them to different sizes and look as good as time put in them.

I only own one slip, and it's a homemade one that I got from a friend awhile back. I usually don't carry it, but I use it to store my "church knife" so it doesn't get banged up. I do however own a ton of belt sheaths/pouches, mostly those that came with knives I've bought. But a couple of years ago I found a small company called American Benchcraft, and bought three pouches from them to fit a 110, a 112, and my favorite multi tool. They don't cost very much and they are tough as nails. I definitely suggest them if you like to belt carry. Cheers, buddy!

Thank you again for the comb slip! It’s allowed me to carry my sunfish much more comfortably than wrapping it in a hank. And I was not aware of all of these options out there, especially with a little creative thinking applied. I use the RR slips and slips that were sent in by Sam. He makes slips out of leather scraps or old furniture. They work really well. Definitely a place for a leather worker to consider branching out into the EDC market.

A clevvis is known for it's all through load bearing pin which a heavy chain or load can be attached for towing. A Bail is a simple hoop that isn't known for strength, merely attachment. Such as for a clip or a line attachment. It's a Bail! LOL! The words are not interchangeable...

Here in Scotland uk we are limited in knifes. With that in mind i generally go with a SAK around home and work day to day . Having many SAK i tend to go with small basic Recruit or Tourist 84mm . To keep scales from scuffs i tried slips and cases , which just added bulk . I ended up with a simple kitchen paper towel roll the knife/ tool in paper towel and in pocket. No clip no case / sheath. The paper towel lastes a few days then replace. The paper towel has the added bonus of less bulk and emergency wipe if sneeze or worse . I guess i am unusual?

Because of the way things are here my knives go in my rucksack so the enclosed style sheaths are used to keep the sand and grit out of the workings. Got a whole bunch of the cheap nylon ones and they do the job. Have the leather sheaths for the locking blades. Bought the proper Victorinox leather sheath for my Delemont folding hunter and the back is like your Mexican sheath, don't trust it either and it cost a fair bit more than $6. That will be replaced when something better comes along.

I carry several 1,2 & 3 layer 111mm SAKS in a leather pen pocket slip I found on Amazon, its listed as Odowalker 6PCS Leather Pocket Protector Durable Pencil Pouch Handmade Pen Holder for Shirt Pockets, Lab Coats, Office & Work Essentials & costs $11.19 for 6. I have a 130mm Ranger Grip 79 in a hand made genuine leather pocket sheath bought on eBay from a Ukrainian leather goods maker, however the RG79 more or less fits comfortably in the Odowalker & had I not first bought the expensive hand made sheath I would carry the RG79 in this much cheaper leather sheath.

I have a few of the leather snap cases in my collection for my large lockbacks. Funny enough, I prefer the back being cut to accommodate a belt as opposed to a separate piece sewn on like the Buck, mostly because I find they last longer with these cheaper aftermarket sheaths.

Do you use Mink Oil,,, or Saddle Soap to condition the leather ???
@ThriftyKaniffy2 жыл бұрын
I used various things. But yes, I've used mink oil, mineral oil, saddle soap etc. Mineral oil is pretty good for the initial softening of the leather if it's too firm which is often the case for the RR slips.

After watching the video I thought of my Olight flashlights that came with holsters. I have a Seeker 2 Pro and a Warrior M2R and both holsters can easily hold the beefy Schrade 507SC. They are deep enough for a knife that is a little longer. The website does not have the exact holster that came with the flashlights but the dimensions of the one they have... Warrior X Pro ($9.95) seems close enough. Do a stare and compare with the dimensions of the flashlights associated with the holsters and you might find an alternative use for them. If not Olight then some other flashlight manufacturer might have holsters that would be great for knives. Olight does not show the back of the holsters but the ones I have has a ring for a dangler, a loop for a two inch belt in addition to that, a strap with a snap. The holsters are sturdy and made of nylon. The flap of the holsters I have use a quick release slide but the replacements seem to be velcro.

Don't even buy those 5-10 dollar sheaths man. Not only are they cheap quality "genuine" leather (middle to low cut skin), those chrome-tans will actually corrode brass bolsters because of chemicals inside the leather. I can't believe they are ethically sourced/made either. Also they are machine stitched with what looks like the cheapest thread possible. You should really pay a leather-worker for something custom, not everybody will charge you $50 dollars for a simple slip lol

I tried to get that Bull Horn Joker last night either in your model, Cocker or the Sport. Amazon said they had one and I did not want to take the chance on it being a return. This was a timely video because I have been looking. Paid about $10 for one of those RR slips...know that are cheaper at SMKW but I had a full cart and threw it in to go with a couple of Watchmen. The Schrade 507 SC did the same thing with the large basket weave sheath from SMKW. It already formed a grove getting in/out. A bit irritating but it will work for now. It is my opinion that the scales that are on it are not the right ones...but that it why it appeals to me. Great idea repurposing things not meant for knives. Today I was on a site that had a lot of offerings for knife sheaths...Knives Plus com. Once my new knives arrives I will delve further into their offerings. What is the name of the knife with the Russian sounding name...the CC showed Mikhail Porraccio.
