Here is a "rerun" (with NEW commentary) of Turbo Views 36 and 64 - uploaded over a decade ago: the fun shooters BLAZING LAZERS and SUPER STAR SOLDIER. :)
Episodes aired 2010 and 2012. Games relesaed in 1989 (BL) and 1990 (SSS).

Blazing Lasers was the 2nd Turbografx game I ever played. The first of course being Keith Courage In Alpha Zones. This one just blew me away and was what sold me on the system.

Happy Thanksgiving. You know what might be cool? If you had a complete Hudson Caravan/Soldier shooting marathon. You could go into the NES, N64 and Wii as well; compare the games, see what you like about each and see what they improved on. I think it might suit the channel seeing as you seem to be a pretty big fan.

Fun video. Blazing Lazers is a personal favorite. It’s the game that got me to enjoy shooters and now I can’t get enough. I think the Turbo16Mini is a great introduction but it’s a shame they’re so expensive and unavailable. Anyway happy Thanksgiving.

Yeah nowadays it is pretty expensive. I got the core graphics idk when it was around Halloween and got it on sale for 70 euros, I thought this is the cheapest it will be, and it was and thankfully got it before it spiked up

It's a common belief that Blazing Lazers is a Soldier game, and that's understandable, especially since the later Super Star Soldier contains some elements from it, and the presentation of the later games looks similar. Compile was very good at making shooters, and influenced the Soldier games that came after. Soldier Blade feels to me like the closest thing to MUSHA not made my Compile. Those two are great games as well. I'm mixed on Blazing Lazers. It's definitely well made, but it has a weird parallax effect between the sprite layer and the background layer. It's and uncommon effect. I can't remember which other game I've seen that does it, but it's to a smaller degree than this one. That effect makes it harder for me to track the shots as it messes with my mind. As anyone can see, that effect was not carried over to the Soldier games and is just not very common, so I imagine they got negative feedback on that. Blazing Lazers also seems like a direct precursor to Super Aleste, and that branch of Compile's shooters feel more laid back and I prefer their more intense games like MUSHA and Spriggan. But the quality is there for sure.

I can play through Soldier Blade and Blazing Lasers without a ton of trouble, but super star soldier is so fucking hard for me.

These games were distant cousins, let's be honest. I personally prefered Blazing Lasers because it's easier, though both games are fun. I suck at Shmups :(.
