Cotton has received a bit of a resurgence lately. There was a remake last year, they released a couple of formerly Japan-only entries on Switch, and they're doing a brand new game too! Strange times man haha.

Cotton is pretty fantastic, I played it through the recently released Cotton Reboot, which is a fantastic remake of the original with really fun additional mechanics that make the gem system way better. Instead of falling to the ground, they float in the air, and shots now split in an angle when they hit the gems instead of blocking your shots entirely, along with additional magic spells you can use in the game. The game also includes the X68000 PC version of the game, which the devs considered to be better than the arcade version. In both, I discovered how useful the Fairy Charge magics were in comparison to the regular spells, charging the lightning magic gives you a barrier with a pretty lengthy invincibility period that made survival much better. Also man, that is a pretty muffled "Ikuzo!"

I have been playing the PS4 versions of the Cotton games, what a great series. My favorite is Panorama Cotton

I loved TZD back in the day! That's where I picked up my first HuCARD adapter to play PC Engine games, and they ran some great sales, especially near the end.

it may look cute but it'll keep you on your toes. Not everyone's cup of tea. IMO it should be on everyone's shooter collection.
