I have a grove of them on my property I planted as 15 gallons in 1990. All grow at different rates. Of the 7 palms, 3 are now producing huge quantities of seed. Rats love to eat into the nut and dine on the delicious meat. I have a couple that germinated on their own and just sit a sit there for a couple of years. Rats are the worst enemy. They eat them to the ground. (Vista CA)

I can't wait a thousand years for my Jubaea chilensis to turn into a tree. How do you make them grow rapidly?

Nice work, Gary! I'm happy to see that you are going strong! I have been fortunate to select some seedlings for our southern Swedish climate, USDA Growing Zone 7a bordering to 7b, 55°N and they already survived 5 week of below freezing temperatures day and night with the low being around 6.8°F last year, while that event killed my large Jubaea with the total height of around 4m ≈ 13 foot. They are definitely my favorite palm alongside takil.

Really interesting to see. Makes me wonder how many palm seeds would have germinated if I'd had the patience to wait longer👍

They'll look great on the hill. The funny thing is they grow faster or at least as fast in the UK. I'm not even in the south either. We get no where as much heat and light as you do. Very interesting. My favourite palm too.

I have 10 years old trachycarpus fortunei, destroyed some winters, stil at 30 - 40 cm. / Your jubaeas look very natural on this meadow, like in their habitat in Chile. / Watering should help...

Do you have clay soil? I have 18" of good soil and clay below that. Is that enough for me?
