I think cake decorating is an art form just like any other only it's temporary and probably appreciated in a way that something in a gallery never would be. 😋 I hope you keep a record of all your creations because every time you cut into a cake it breaks my heart 😅 Maybe there should be a Tigga Mac gallery? Framed cakes, statues of your best creations and a pile of crumbs in the corner with the label 'MODERN ART' 😂 Absolutely have to have an ability and as you say practice, practice, practice.

Honestly, this applies to everything. Some people will be more naturally inclined to doing something. But everyone’s capable of picking it up, learning how to do it, and working hard to improve their skills at it. And the people who aren’t as naturally inclined can rise above the skill level of those that are if they work harder at it. It’s sort of like if you’re metaphorically running a marathon. The people who are more naturally inclined maybe started a mile ahead of you. But you both have so much distance to cover before you unlock your full potential (the finish line). And some people will either stop and stay where they are or completely drop out all together.

The skill to be able to master the materials and process does not make up for the talent of being artistic with your designs. Not everyone understands color, texture and creativity. There is definitely a huge difference…your cakes exude artistic ability…most others we see online either copy something they saw or follow a formula…not everyone should have creative control over their cake decoration. You are an artist. ❤

I agree. I've always been good at math, science, and writing, but suck at anything artistic. I could probably learn the basics of cake decorating well enough to make a simple cake, because, like you said, it takes practice to get the techniques down. But I will never have an eye for design. My cakes would be boring af. This is one reason I like cake decorating channels like yours. It's fun to see someone who is creative make such beautiful things. I'm in constant awe that you can even imagine the designs you do, let alone actually make them.

The skills can all be learned. The gift is being able to blend all the techniques into something beautiful. After watching your videos for a while, I could replicate what you do, but I'd be copying one of your previous designs. Like, that ombre technique I could probably do with some practice, but I'd only be able to maybe change the colors used. I don't know that I could come up with something new.

I agree completely! First comes the DESIRE to create. Second, the practice, over and over again. Third, YES, the “muscle memory” from the practice is so very helpful. One my of favorite calligraphy teachers (“Lefty” Fontenrose) told us, “PRACTICE doesn’t make perfect. Only PERFECT PRACTICE makes perfect.” If you keep on repeating an error, that error will become “your perfect”. That’s one of many reasons I love watching your videos, you show us all how to repeat the “perfect” we aspire to create. BTW, that ombré was so gorgeous! Thank you!

Yes, I completely agree that it’s both! I’m an artist of all sorts of mediums (from clay to watercolor to embroidery & everything in between) And while I tend to be better at picking stuff up easily & fast, But I work hard to try all sorts of tips & tricks & techniques with every medium to master them! Believe it or not, I actually end up learning a lot of techniques that carry over into other mediums or at least give me new ideas to use other mediums in different ways (if that makes sense)
