Great project. I was licensed over 25 years ago and wanted to build a random wire then, but no one did them then and information was hard to come by before the internet. I stepped away from the hobby after five years in it, but am getting back in and am going to put up one when I get a rig. My how times change! Random wires are all the rage now. I knew you would do a lot better with the counterpoise. I wish I could do QRP but it would be no good at my home. I am in a narrow deep valley, and while I have room for a wire over 100 meters long, its all in the valley and under dense hardwood trees. Power is a must and even then it isn't easy. By the way Slovakia looks beautiful and I also love chickens and had some pet ones as a teen age boy. 73 N8PEF

@@OM0ET Dear Friend: I enjoyed your videos. When you made your UnUn, is very easy to take a 1 to 4 derivation and a switch to select 1 to 4 or 1 to 9. This trick allow to tune a better SWR in the low bands. To use with less than 10 watts, you can use any sort of core; even e piece of broken AM radio ferrite with 10 trifilar turns in series. PS: If you laid the counterpoise wire oposed to the antenna, you magnify the dipolar moment -an the capture area- and obtain perhaps 3 dB more signal (About 1/2 S). Thanks for sharing your instructive experiments. LU1AR

Tam například s UpConvertorem nemám prakticky šanci, kdežto s Tecsunem i z bytu na dlouhé vlny přijímám radio majáky z opravdu velkých vzdáleností. Prostě jen tak, na gauči... :)

@@OM0ET I think you'd get much better results with the type 43 ferrite. The yellow and white core you have chosen has HF loss, because it is designed for noise suppression in SMPS designs. Computers are full of them! It can reduce your output power quite a lot - not a good thing on QRP.

Paul, in a previous video you made allowance for at least two ferrite chokes on the coax to your radio. I notice in this video that you do not use them. Did they prove unnecessary or did the coiled coax near your transceiver act as an RF choke? Thanks for the field test video. MikeinMinnesota N0WDM

Hello Mike. If I use good counterpoise wire I obviously use a ferrite chokes, but if I don't have a counterpoise I use coax feedline like a counterpoise. Then I don't use ferrites. @OM0ET4
Yes of course you can use it for all HF bands as a receiving antenna. This is much better than any dipole, because the random wire antenna is non-resonant antenna what means that you will receive signals on all HF frequencies with no attenuation out of resonant frequency like is normally on the dipoles. If you don't have a HAM radio licence you can still use any kind of antenna, but you can't never transmit with it! 😉👍
