Cold Air Intake install on a 2005 Mini Cooper (R50)

You went from cold air factory in front and top of radiator, to hot air intake inside the engine bay. Looks nice, but not better

You've removed a cold air intake and installed an intake that grabs air from the top of the engine. while providing a place for the heat to move. right above the intake. but just as any gains in power would be minimal. so would any losses. and fuck it. Maybe a K&N cotton filter (flat same size as stock) on the stock air box works better ? The stock box breaths from the car front (cold air) and this doesn’t

I know this isn’t for power but on these cars the air filters lead to heat soak and decrease power, the one with the best power outcome I believe is the piper cross panel filter and that’s only about 5hp Not hating just saying these filters are worse for the car then the stock air box

A properly installed CAI adds about 7-10 hp to the MINI R50, which is significant. That's why everyone who upgrades their MINI has one. The CAI needs to have a box to separate the filter from the rest of the engine, though (like the DDM CAI). Now, anyone who owns a MINI with an automatic transmission, that's another matter entirely, and these guys don't know what they're talking about.

Not the case dynoed my 03 1.6 cooper with similar intake & k&n panel filer the open intake was 2bhp more and temperature was exact same after 4 pulls each time mine also has upgraded plugs and full exhaust which means can't hear intake as much now 😢

Unsure of the name but I remember it was advertised in red and the color had to be selected, so when you're checking them out look for the color selection box.. amazon btw.

Andrew, keep in mind as on the mini coopers, the engines and compu brains of the car are perfectly in sync and by adding an air intake, it will actually make your engine light come on and as I understand it the engine will not be as efficient. I believe the Air Intake Systems are best for the carbureted cars!

@@hechavarria100 Adding a cone filter will not bring the engine light on, as the engine is only sucking in the air it requires, the lambda sensor will richen the fuel mixture accordingly, if the engine has a maf sensor that will measure the air and adapt the fuel / air ratio accordingly. The only time it becoming less efficient is when the filters get dirty, as for carbs yes old skool tuning method, but they require adjustment to see performance gains as the carbs don't self adjust like electronic fuel injection. And some carbs may require new bigger jets !!!
