Btw, otters are actually softer than chinchillas. If you ever think about getting a chin, boys are usually (not always) sweeter. They can live 15-20 years, and they LOVE their dust baths.

Take a second look at the breathing hole is the spider cage. They appear large enough that the spider and its food (worms) could find their way out. Worms definitely can, so it would be important for someone to watch and make sure the spider gets it.

I actually made those enclosures you are talking about. The holes are 3/32nd while the meal worms can get out if they were on the bottom adult spiders can’t. Which these are made for

You had chance to see a number of our Australian birds, Rosella's, Cockateels Budgerigars and more. Believe me our range of wild birds is great, seeing the many varied colour birds in large free flying flocks. So nice is many times, given some snacks and right approach, it is possible to call numbers down to sit on arms, shoulders head or just surround you. I have impressed many visitors from overseas Some were making considerable effort sneaking closer to take photos, to first object when I make noise, telling the hang on. I then got the birds down sitting on their arm or shoulder and get photos of spectacular coloured birds on their arm. Photos they never expected to get when first quietly sneaking closer. Similar with other wildlife including wallabies, kangaroo, wombats possums, beyond that close contact to lizards, snakes, large spiders, moths, and more, a real wealth of creatures many never expected close contact. Takes some effort to get most people to stroke some animals, like a Huntsman spider, with leg span up to hand width, though mostly find examples not that large. They are quite silky to touch. Yes I hold the spider from nipping them, but at times camping for a week, was able to get the same spider to be stroked by two young girls and their brother, on successive days, being asked if we could go stroke the spider, after first time resistance to get close. They lost their fear after experiencing the gentle harmless nature of these specific spiders. Admittedly the birds, kangaroos, wallabies, possums and koalas remain the most sought animals. So many people remain amazed how approachable wild animals can be. I even got trouble from a camping ground park ranger, as I had a wallaby move into our family camper annex of It's accord. Was accused of capturing and restricting the animal. The ranger made several attempts to chase it away, but as he smugly walked away, the wallaby hoped back in. Several attempts later the ranger gave up shaking his head, accepting I did not capture or restrain the animal. The ranger came each day, insisting we do not feed it, which we did not. Only some water and shade and keeping crowds away. The wallaby just rested inside our annex, departing each evening as the large herd went deep into the forest, and returned in the morning. At night in that camp I pleased the people around calling possums down from the trees, feeding fruit, bread, cookies. Day time got various birds down at a number of picnic tables, including various Magpies, a hawk, two owls and many parrot cockateel, parakeets, Rosella's. On one day nearby zi had a small eagle down beside me, feeding strips of beef, but sadly other people saw it and approached and it flew away, never returned. Have had numerous nicknames, bug man, animal whisperer, etc. One time had two Emus up close, with about 20 baby Emus around them. These were wild flock, some 150km from towns and farms in central Australia, even I was surprised as usually getting within 10ft of wild Emus was hard. Though had a number of times Emus running parallel to my moving car on outback dirt roads. I love nature and all creatures, it is what makes "Random Okie..." a channel I watch all the time. Keep up your wide animal interests.

I absolutely loved your stories. If I ever get to go to Australia I want to get to go hang out with wildlife with you
@helmuthschultes92436 ай бұрын
@RandomOkieFarms would be nice, to have that opportunity, yes. I am however 73 now, so maybe not that many years left. No longer as energetic as past, living alone after rest of family all have passed on. Had little travel since Covid lockdowns here ruined life and fitness. Since then done so little travel. But catching up with some wildlife would be great and moral uplifting. In past few years I had great joy each year as Rainbow Lorikeets visit a wild growing apple tree in my backyard, eating all the little apples. Have other birds nesting around my yard, as I put out some feed regularly. Travel takes time, such visits may take weeks to get to locations for various animals as the variety is not always just one spot. But for example the camping ground mentioned would cover wallabies possums, Magpie Rosella's, Eagles (maybe), various other birds. But catchup to Emus, Kangaroos, Galahs Sulphur Crested Cokatoos Budgerigars, Black Cokatoo, Goannas and more, likely best means travel to opposite end of Victoria, some 1500km away from camp ground, almost 1000 miles, so all consumes time, though with luck and right season could see all and more within a few days from home in other closer places. You would really be impressed having chance to hear Lyrebird going through its repertoire of song/sound effects absolutely spectacular a bird that can mimick any sounds, other birds, camera shutter, chainsaw, car door slam, baby crying anything the hear they learn to reproduce. You may find some KZbin videos about these and hear examples of their sound effects. I have seenbthem running across bush/forest trails, but only twice had chance to listen, once by chance with visiting cousin and his wife from Germany, as zi took them on a 4 day 4WD tour in our mountains. A rare opportunity, though not far from home, within 50 km is an area they are common in and a few evenings or mornings could be successful trying specific for a song session, and even provide viewing of other wildlife. It is on outer eastern fringe of Melbourne suburbia.

I'd love it if you would name your new hedgehog Bill. Why? because my husband is my hedgehog! He's just always reminded me of one and he's a bit prickly too. lol I love jumping spiders too...I used to play with them a lot as a kid. Still think they are so smart and cute. I also love the colorful garden spiders. But that is it for me and spiders...period. I had a skink that lived in the little flower garden I grew for my mother when she lived with me the summer I was able to plant the garden. All that would really grow well were marigolds in our ant infested Nashville, TN dirt no matter how much potting soil I bought and put in the rocked in area on mother's porch area in the downstairs. Chickens! xo
