The one at 2:02 : This sort of norm usually depends upon whether you live in a country with “direct” or “indirect” speech. In direct countries such as North America, you are expected and allowed to directly say what you mean. In indirect countries such as Argentina, you are expected to say something you may not mean that correlates with the culture’s customs. For example; when asked if you would like some tea, a person from a direct country would say yes and they would be given tea. A person from an indirect country would say, “No, no, that’s ok!” And then would be served some tea. My brain hurts

I'm not autistic, but I love watching things about people who aren't like me so that I can better understand how they think. I also find ways that I'm similar and different to them, so I can relate to them and stuff like that. I highly recommend learning about people who are different from you, it's helpful in real life and if you're a writer or something. It's great to hear from people who actually experience these things instead of other people talking about them, like on websites or movies. Thanks for the compilations!

the thing about under-expressing pain(4:36 ish)...wow. that resonated with me so much? it's not something i've ever heard of before in autism but it fits me so well? i'm the type of person who will suck it up and not tell anyone i'm in any kind of pain unless i can't hide it anymore. i have a high pain tolerance because i don't know how to tell people "hey, i'm hurting" so i just suck it up until i can't. ...wow. also the entirety of the auditory processing issues. i *cannot* watch something unless it has subtitles because something not having subtitles just...makes it hard for me to understand? i'm not sure exactly how to explain it. i can't hear as well unless there's subtitles lol

@chronosclaimsall
@chronosclaimsall Жыл бұрын
See it's a norm for me, but not for that bs etiquette reason. I do it because the first time they offer I'll assume they're doing it out of obligation, so I'll say no because I was prepared to take care of it myself anyway. If they insist on it, that communicates to me that they actually want to take care of this thing for me as a kind gesture rather than out of politeness. (My mom does that sometimes: "Hey do you want a bit of xyz?" Me: Yes "Oh....I was hoping you'd say no." Me: Why offer then? "I was just being polite." So do you want me to leave it all for you then? "No, take what you want" She's very playful about it but I still end up feeling uneasy about if she really wants to share so I sometimes end up taking less than I normally would.) Most times I'll still say no because it would feel like I'm being spoiled or whatever, but sometimes I accept that second time (but usually not the first time, to give them time to change their mind if they need to) because I think it's really sweet and it gives me an excuse to do something nice for them as well later on.

I just got diagnosed with adhd, but I’ve always related to certain autistic traits that aren’t related to adhd. Sure, I have some like traits that fit both. But I also struggle with social cues and understanding of social norms. I have a set routine I need to follow, with some flexibility. My whole day gets thrown out if I have a Boulder thrown in my routine, I get extreme anxiety. I have high anxiety but gotten diagnosed with adhd and sensory issues. I feel like I’ve been faking it this whole time because I truly did think i was autistic, have been for the past years. I self diagnosed for a long time and I even thought my dad did too. So I feel like a poser now.

My sister got me Loop earplugs for my last birthday and they've been a _godsend_ when traveling. I need to travel almost an hour by public transport to get to my college, and before I got the earplugs I'd frequently get home extremely overstimulated from all the ambient noise in the bus and train. Nowadays I practically can't live without the plugs xD They're also great for car rides btw! Cars can be loud, and the plugs reduce the noise enough to the point where I can relatively easily ignore it :D

The first one, i am a picky eater, I hate anything with chocolate (not including Twix, only exception..) but I hate how chocolate gets so messy. And I hate hate hateeee when my food is mixed. (Unless soup or curry, but I’ll eat each things individually.) it’s like, yk? How food is better when not mixed.. and it depends with the strict schedule. Like I don’t need a schedule, and I’m pretty okay with change, however this varies, for example like a few months ago, I got super upset at my dads wife bc she took the water I laid out for myself, but I had her water next to her plate? So I was super confused like “why take my water?” And then I had a meltdown and started crying and I didn’t know why (this was before I started researching autism so I can’t even say it was the placebo effect) as well as that, I like lining stuff up, and I find it more comfy to talk in a super high/childish voice. I take back what I said, I do find change hard. (Still certain scenarios) I was a soprano in chorus during elementary, and 6th grade. The during seventh my teacher changed me to alto and I cried. I cried realll hard. She changed me back to soprano, but after singing alto I realized, huh. I am an alto, and then took a whole year to tell my chorus teacher, (beginning of eighth grade) I also threw a fit bc my mom said she was an alto so I thought I’d be an alto, and then in elementary school when I wasn’t an alto I cried, but got used to it after a while.. and also, I HAVE INSANE EMPTATHY I can’t take myself out of people shoes, however, I don’t know when I need empathy.. I find eyes uncomfortable, but I can maintain eye contact :)

2:43 See, I think this plays into the whole people not taking "no" as a serious response thing too, if you're expected to say, "no," to be polite, even if you don't mean "no." Also, why offer to do something if you want the person to refuse anyways? If you want them to refuse, then you probably don't want to do it. So... if you don't want to do it, don't offer in the first place. What is the point of this word dance? Is this not the definition of, "beating around the bush," which people complain about?
