Do note that Borderlands 2 (and BL1 too) was nowhere perfect. The grind was pretty bad at some points, many skills were randomized in effectiveness and tedious to use, you didn't have neither chat nor good matchmaking for co-op runs, the balance was a mess and OP levels were balanced around that mess. It did garner success but it was very far from well designed game. With all that said, I just have to wonder why Randy is even employed in his position at this point. He messed up so many times, and I'm not saying "he lied to sell products". All big publishers lie or withhold information. It's how he behaved. Battleborn failed quite spectacularly and Randy definitely wasn't helping with his abyssmal attempts at making it relevant. He was just an internet clown at that point.

It's also down to the personal preference of the reviewers. Alien Isolation was about survival horror which has a pretty niche market compared to shooters. Almost none of the Ign(orant) staff are true gamers but rather casual gamers who love it when a game is cinematic and take as much control away from the player as possible so that you can just focus on the cool explosions. Gamer like that will hate Isolation which is slow in pace and you cant just run and gun your way through. Also it was considered way too long which was annoying the reviewers as they need to finish the game for the review and if it's not your cup of tea, can become a real chore to Wade through. I can definitely see why the major outlets gave a mediocre score to Isolation. The only reason why CA probably chose alien 1 as their inspiration was due to fears that a more action oriented title like aliens would remind too many people of acm and thus chose survival horror as their game. I don't know however how they expected it to become the next Outlast or dead space. Games like those are so rare to pull off. I personally love isolation and would love a sequel that's aliens inspired.

To everyone interested how far Randy is willing to go for monetary gain: I suggest looking into TerminX vs Pitchford story. TerminX is one of the lead developers of EDuke32 - a free sourceport for the Duke3D. When 3DRealms was still kicking, TerminX managed to secure the rights to develop and release Duke Nukem: Hail To The King Collection that would include every official content pack for Duke Nukem, as well as a port of N64 version to both PC and Android. What happened however, is that soon after initial trailer and several interviews given by TerminX, he was contacted by Randy and was told to terminate the development. In the legal documentation regarding the distribution of the IPs handed over to Gearbox by 3DRealms it was explicitly stated that htey have no rights to the ports of the Duke Nukem 3D game, released or in development (TerminX's case). After some dispute some sort of an agreement was made, and TerminX agreed to help Gearbox developing their own port as an employee. They used his mapping tool (Mapster32) and even code from his Polymer renderer albeit modified, as well as consulted with him throughout deelopment. Gearbox however did not bother to uphold their part of the deal, and when Duke World Tour was near completion, Randy pressured TerminX into silence with legal threats he would've been unable to dispute due to his financial circumstances and proceeded to make a passive-agressive shitslinging at him on Twitter (since cleaned up), and the development of official HttK collection was shut down. The fact that Gearbox does not own any content packs for the Duke is the reason World Tour came out as crippled as it is. The dude was purposefully pretending to forget Jim's name to bait the interviewer into saying it. He clearly remembered who Jim was with all the details he mentioned, yet he kept on not even pretending to guess the name, AND he kept it up for way longer than would have been innocent. Because he was baiting. He was only doing it to try and get the other guy to say it for him so that he wouldnt look guilty for calling out Jim by name. After all these years and the success of Alien: Isolation, maybe it's time we got the game we wanted. Isolation's sequel should merge the survival horror elements with action, basically a FPS version of Dead Space. You could play as a lone marine who's the sole survivor of his unit getting wiped out by the xenomorphs and have to survive and escape a colony that's been overrun. You get access to all the iconic weapons but with not nearly enough ammo to fight all the aliens, forcing you again to rely on stealth and crafting abilities to survive. That would be a game I would love to play.

The game is quite bad on multiple levels. For example the bad AI was because of a spelling error on a single line of code. Fixing the spelling error dramatically improved the AI. However nobody in Gearbox seemed to give a damn about fixing such a simple mistake. Any half decent debugging software would have caught the spelling error and it would certainly have shown up. If you have the game then fix the spelling error in the .ini file and you should notice a dramatic improvement in enemy intelligence.

If I was an investor with Gearbox and was listening at the 9:30 point at this video I would have pulled my shares out at that moment. Randy basically says that the conspiracy theory is wrong, but does so by outright saying that the Gearbox managers made the financial decision to (if he isn't lying) invest their profits from Borderlands 2 into Aliens: Colonial Marines. Now, this isn't a surprise at all, as I would imagine that many studios use profits from other titles to finance new projects or existing projects. The problem is he says that his firm spent "way more than SEGA ever game [them]" and they still got the results that they got. If you're an investor in this company or some firm like SEGA, this kind of flippant remark by the *CEO* of the company about how they can't effectively utilize their resources and re-invest in the company with their own money would be a hint that perhaps you shouldn't give them your money either. The fact that the CEO is also outright lying through his teeth about ratings data that can be easily located is even greater bullshit. How this man even still has his job is beyond me.

I doubt they play test these extremely buggy games past the first few minutes of gameplay. Probably because even they can't stand to play more then a few minutes of it. I can see if the Game was a huge open world like Skyrim, then yeah, there will always be bugs somewhere in the game that were missed or overlooked, because of the size of the game. That's why modders still love Skyrim and fallout, because modders can fix the things that Bethesda overlooked or missed. And after all those bugs, the base game is still epic. But the Aliens game was horrible right from the start, there was no saving that game, even with tons of mods, if it even had mod support.

Take a look at the beautiful work between Sega and Creative Assembly that we know as Alien: Isolation. Bitchford blames SEGA, yet they made the masterpiece of Alien: Isolation. Doesn't make sense. The Nintendo DS version is really good and well worth playing. Great characters, classic side scrolling action, it's Metroid meets Contra 4. I believe it serves as a respectable sequel to ALIENS, much like Ghostbusters(2009) being known as the third film. I suggest they give the rights to Creative Assembly (isolation) work with real fans and make a true ALIENS game. Have the story revovle around the events on Hadleys Hope before the Marines arrive. Call it "ALIENS: Last Stand"
