Hey Randy! We used to free dive The Washing Machine back in the early 1980's. NOBODY knew about it but us and a few others. It was our secret spot. We'd drop down just before the 1st horseshoe ledge. The challenge was to touch the bottom of the deepest hole - about the size of a 55 gal. drum. Then corkscrew up into a spinning finish in the whirlpools. Then jump back in our awaiting, unattended Zodiac & do it all over again. Man! This place has gotten famous! I was Divemaster/1st Mate on the liveaboard dive boat R/V Dragon Lady. We knew Blackbeard's Cruises back then. We'd privately snicker at them because they knew so very little about the good dive spots, including this one. They didn't have a clue. Obviously no selfish secret anymore. I've mellowed over the years and am pleased to see so many divers enjoy this special place. It was introduced to me by my Captain - Bob French - who, in the 1970's had my role on the dive boat Highlander. Cheers!

I dived here back in the 60s before any of you fancyboys found out about it. We didn't have tanks back then, just held our breath like men.

@@Michael-cs3li That's awesome Michael! Trumped me on the earliest for sure. But this "fancyboy" preferred diving it like you did. Free!

@@jalspach9215 Did I mention that the water was 20m deeper back in my day? Some day you can be like me, boy.

Well, this is our typical of daily dive in Komodo, Indonesia.. sometimes currents here are way more violent than this. Yeap.. this guy is right this is not for inexperienced divers nor fainted hearts.
