I'm soon to be 74 and my grandpa passed away in 1959. He raised me and made me the person I am today. It's many years since I've heard Randy sing this song, but I found it on YT today. Memories came back in an instant. Teared up. Love Randys voice.

My Dad passed away in July of 2016, and this was played at his funeral from his grands and great grands. He was the anchor of our family and we loved him dearly. He was a straight up man, his word was his life. He loved his horses, his dogs, hunting and fishing and aggravating my Momma. Thanks Randy, you nailed him with this song. 🌹

Sorry to hear tour loss. I'm 53 mine passed away in 1988 I was 17 then. And his brother passed away 6 months after him. It was to much for my family, and everyone went thier own ways to deal with the losses on thier own. My family was never thier when I needed them at the time I needed them the most. I've never been able to deal with it, and to this day still leaves a huge hole and hurt that's never went away. I hope you well on your journey and send prayers for you and your family.

I can't help but cry when I hear this song... My grandfather was the greatest man I ever knew... he was my best friend. Even when he got sick I never really believed that he would die... because I truly did think that he walked on water. I spent every second with him in the hospice when the doctors gave up... I wanted to say so much... but neither one of us could say a single word. I'd give anything to have one more day to say the things that I couldn't. I held his hand and cried like a child as he took his last breath... I said it was ok for him to let go...but everything inside of me was begging him not to. I HATE that death is such a big part of life... I miss my friend more than words could ever express...

I think this is common when there is a close bond. My son literally lifted my mother (unconscious) over his head and prayed for her to get well. She had been sick and recovered so many times and he never left her side. He was 38 and cried then and still does if he thinks about her.

When the song came out I just knew for sure that Randy Travis knew my granddaddy and me. Dee passed in 78, I'm 64 now and I still can't hear the song without breaking down by the 3rd or 4th chords. My grandparents were my heroes, they still are. They were both hard-working honest people born shortly after the turn of the century. Not this century but the last one of course. I spent my first 5 years living and learning. When my mom got remarried and moved us out I was devastated. We moved less than 2 hrs away. But it may have just as well been to Mars. Mom put many miles on the car the first several years. Ours was a love like none Ive known since. They taught me morals. And honesty. And working hard for what you want. My oldest Granson will be 26 in a few days and will not hesitate to tell you that his Granma has been his best friend his whole life. 😊 Thanx Mama and Dee. and Randy Does anybody remember morels

this is exactly what a child is supposed to think about their grandparents.. so everyone remember if you are one or will be one to show love just as this song expresses. because your memory is what's left when your gone. love your children so much, so that they can love theirs... have a wonderful day all.

it’s 2020 and in 3 months my grandpa turns 70. Even though he is considered my step grandpa he treats me like his own son. And now that i’m 15 i haven’t taken account for how much he really loves me. I’ve been a little shit my whole life and i’ve never cried so much as i have tonight. You have that special relationship with that one special person. And I’m still learning. I’m gonna cry so much the day he passes but at least I can say that I love him and that I thank him for creating the little man that’s standing next to his casket

There are days that this song is a must for me. If you look up Pa in the dictionary you'll find his picture. He was without a doubt my favorite Pa. Thank you Pa for loving me unconditionally. My 'dad' was not my bio dad, and never worked on a farm, but a steel mill as a boilermaker. I thought he walked on water. It takes a great man to except 2 little girls as his own, and treat them no different than his son and daughter who came later in the marriage. This good man took good care of us till we left home. And was there when we needed help after. Never lifting his hand to us, even though he himself came from an home with a abusive father. Cycles can be broken. I cried harder at his funeral than my Bio Dads who I never really knew. Meet you inside the Eastern Gate Dad.

My mother's father, Price Stephenson, born in 1899. Since then, 67, I have tracked down and met my Native American family on Leech Lake Reservation. I thank my luck stars, we were orphans now we have more families that we can deal with. m. from Minnesota

I love this song so much!! I love and miss my Grandpa Layten "Gramps". Every time I hear this song, i think of him. He was a sweet country boy with simple tastes, and he was never without his HAT. When this song came out I.was on tour with a rock band, just happened to be in Toronto at CPI., for a meeting. That night Alan Jackson, and Randy were at the CNE., an outside shed venue. We were invited each of us sorta of chuckled at each other, we went to be kind. This song, stopped me dead in my tracks, I can remember exactly where I was, what I was wearing the approximate time and weather. From a rocker music DOES NOT get any better than this

Fuckin' A RIGHT!!! 👌👍👍 Although, I, myself, would prob label me a "rocker" as well, I'm actually VERY VERY versatile musically. And proud to be so! 😉 Heh. But that's a cool ass story. Whether it's completely (or at all) true, no one will ever really know. 4 sure. No offense btw. I mean ABSOLUTELY NO disrespect etc. I just don't blindly believe everything I hear see & read. Especially, on YT. Heh. 🤔 But I definitely HOPE that it's true!! 😬😛😉
