He was holding up the bloodstained Bible, and it said that his mother gave it to him. Earlier, you heard him say that the dying preacher gave his bloodstained Bible to the hooker. You should listen to it again! Really good song!

Exactly, no offence but i think they missed the point of the song. The hooker hasn't finished her purpose on earth.

Yes, and that’s why Randy was singing about the things those three had left behind them, but the hooker hadn’t left anything behind yet and was spared. She went on to have a son and read him the Bible and he grew up to be a preacher, so that’s what she left behind now.

This song is a example of God's love and mercy! He spared the woman (hooker) from dying because she wasn't on the same path as the other three people! He gave her more time to get right! After she realized what happened in return she changed her life and focused on God ! She raised a child to follow God also in which he became a preacher ! God works in mysterious ways!

Yeah basically the preacher saved the hooker's soul, and she went on to raise her son as a Christian and he became a preacher. That's what happened more or less, with the significance being that she was evidently spared by divine intervention to carry the word of christ.

Not just the hooker, but her son too. Then the son went on to be a preacher and lead more to Christ. The death of that one preacher at just the right time, saved many many more people.

What guts me though is Randy performed on his CMT 25th Anniversary special and it was I think maybe 8-9wks later that he had the stroke🥺😔 What a gift this man has been to the world!!!❤️

This song always brings tears to my eyes, the hooker was saved, in more ways than one, there is no one that is beyond redemption in the eyes of God. Remember Jesus preached amongst the hookers, taxcollectors, drunkards, and fighters. Sinners are the ones in need of salvation, and usually closer to God than they let on.

What I love most about this song is that, for some, the hooker would've been the most expendable - but she was the one saved. Some might say it's because her son went on to be a preacher, but I always think of it as those other three (teacher, preacher & farmer), had already had a full life, and had done good works. Whereas, the hooker still needed to find her path. Beautiful song. Great reaction!

Randy Travis ranks right up there with George Strait. So many hits to listen to. He has several gospel albums but his country is deep too. My favorite country song is Promises and I can’t pick among the gospel songs but his acoustic version of Amazing Grace is solid

The surprise ending of the song is that the hooker didn't die. But the unspoken assumption in the early part of the story is that all four of them had died. And there were only three wooden crosses, because the hooker wasn't a Christian, and because her family didn't care enough about her to put up a cross for her, like the families of the preacher, teacher and farmer. In the end, the preacher gave her his Bible as he was dying, she read it, and turned her life around and had a family, including a son who became a preacher.

Some people are confused about the bus driver. But think about the shape of a bus, the driver is in the very front. Most people sit in the middle or back to get personal space. Also consider this subtle hint “The bus driver never saw the stop sign, and 18-wheelers can’t stop on a dime.” This hints two very important details. 1: it was a T-Bone accident, the driver would have had a better chance at surviving compared to the 4 passengers. 2: it hints the driver was alive to give a statement to first responders, and felt guilt for missing the stop sign. It’s a really powerful song with lots of detail if you listen for it

This is a great song. It does make you think about what your legacy will be. The farmer and the teacher and the preacher all left something behind. Then when the hooker got the bible she read to her son and he became a preacher, so she actually left something well worth it behind also watching her son become a preacher. A very well thought out song and very well executed. Love your reactions.

This is a song that tells us that no one is beyond the reach of God. As Christians we spread the Word not knowing how it may impact somebody’s life for Him. The simple gesture of handing a woman of ill repute a Bible led her to raising a son who would go on to leading others to Christ.

I love, absolutely love old country music, I love SRV, I love old rap. But I love those for the instrumental and rythmic skill it takes to make them. But any truly great song connects with me on a personal and human level, not many genres even attempt to do that the way that country or rhythm and blues songs do. I was typing it out as you said it, the preachers mom was the hooker who survived, was given the bloody bible who in turn raised the preacher mentioned in this song, they were both looking for lost souls on this trip to Mexico, but the preacher managed to reach and save one in his last moments in this crash.

This song makes me cry every single time. A wonderful story of redemption, not just for the sinner, but for those of us who judge them. At first we assume there are only three crosses because the hooker was "only" a hooker and no one cared that she died. But then it turns out, she didn't die. The preacher gave her his Bible, and she turned around, had a son, read the Bible to him, and he became the preacher who tells the story.

This song gets me every time. It's just the perfect example of how loving and forgiving God is. He wants everyone to make it to Heaven and rejoice with him. He took the three because they were ready to go. If he had taken the hooker then, she wouldn't have been ready. Granted, that's just an assumption as only God can truly know your heart, but the fact that he gave her a second chance pretty much tells us that. She went on to change her life and now she (and her son) can use her testimony to bring others to the Lord. Such an amazing song.

The story of Jesus Christ transforming lost folks. So true, so inspiring Psalms 3:3

I think one of the biggest things people miss about this story is the time-line. God's plan wasn't revealed for many many years. Sometimes when things happen, regardless of how tragic they may be, something good comes from it. It may take time, but remember we are only here for a little while.
