STALKING A Public Land BUCK | Nevada Mule Deer (EP. 2)

In episode 2 of this Nevada hunt, Randy Newberg is back at it first thing in the morning of day 3. Finding a great highpoint to spend the first part of the day, they can scan miles and miles of public land in search of a buck. The morning is pretty slow, not seeing a lot of deer but Randy does locate a buck that he'd go after, but the deer puts himself in a unstalkable location.
Being restrained on where he can hunt, due to film permit restrictions, Randy keeps looking for better areas that he can glass and still film. They keep switching locations over the next couple days, just trying to locate a mature buck that beds in an area that Randy can stalk.
Finally, Randy glasses up a group of 8 bucks. The difficulty is getting through the road system to get closer, due to a mine being in the way. During the heat of the day Randy decides to take a nap. The cameraman, Jonathan, locates a buck but is nervous to wake up Randy from his sleep.
It was a good decision, because Randy decides he wants to stalk him once he gets eyes on the buck. With plenty of time and a pretty good route to take on the deer, this might be the best opportunity that Randy has to fill his tag on a public land mule deer.

I've never hunted in my life but love your videos. I love the distant shots with the arrows pointing out you and deer. As a non hunter i have a hard time picturing the layout of the stalk without it.

Satisfied public land hunter advocate here. You are in my neck of the woods. Rocky Mountain Elk foundation purchased my grandfathers ranch very near where you are. You are 100% right. It burns every 4-5 years. Nothing but cheatgrass as far as the eye can see. I have come to terms with the fact that nature doesn't care about our short lifespans. Eventually it will find balance with or without our influence. Land managed by a good steward then abandoned under the ideology of conservation is a short term disaster. It is actually the opposite of conservation. Don't buy land to access it if you don't plan on managing it. Back to nature is a joke. My grandfather would let anyone who asked access his land. Most didn't ask, they would cut his fences and even shoot cows, horses, and one time they shot through his aircraft hanger. Hunting access and wildlife management is what it's all about.

I have never hunted Mulie’s, but it is a bucket list hunt. I have just bought 40 acres in northeast Nevada, and want to come out soon. My question Mr. Newberg is, do Mulie’s tend to bed when the wind is up, like our eastern whitetail? Just thinking out loud, I know squat.

One can see another reason why going with the Raptor was a good idea. You can make your own roads. Way to show some articulation on those rutted out roads. I want a Colorado ZR2 for similar reasons, but I don't have to worry about all the gear and people that a production like this takes. Having to get film permits and only being limited to a certain area adds another challenge most hunters don't face, same with having to coordinate a camera guy or two with reflective lenses to get in close on a very weary game like a mule deer or a pronghorn. Hopefully 2021 you can do an archery antelope hunt like you have done before. I have watched a few from others and wow what a challenge as well. I enjoy your positive attitude and you are right that is why people love to archery hunt it is the challenge of getting close to an animal that is use to being in survival mode and being able to get or make that opportunity to put an arrow in them. Thanks for sharing.
