You should SERIOUSLY consider taking the free class you we're offered on the IG Podcast. Alot of people fight for those spots to train with true masters of the game. Ive seen ppl who have had insane "internet beefs" become friends in real life. Highly recommend u take that offer and record it.

@@Mikehoncho_shoots 5 years as a LEO and he shoots like a C class at best but that's better than most. I give him credit though because although his training might not be applicable as he may think, he still trains unlike all of my LE buddies who can't put their EGOs aside and come to a match because their too afraid of looking bad. He's still crazy for not taking those free courses though.

@Officercake out of curiosity who do you respect? As former LEO, former USMC and current competition shooter I can unequivocally say you need work, and wherever you are getting your current training from is ineffective.

So i will give you credit on at least trying. Thats more than 90 percent of LE. Thats also why 90 percent of LE can be out shot by hobbyist civilians. But my question is, for someone who preaches fundamentals and to "get out and train" why are your fundamentals so weak? Why do drills like this when you would benefit most from working on actual fundamentals.
@Officercake
@Officercake 18 күн бұрын
As you said, most cops don’t train. A lot don’t understand the benefits of practical shooting. If a cop can see this, go try it, understand how much they suck, and then take the necessary steps to get better from there, that’s a success in my opinion.
@jacrispy9603
@jacrispy9603 18 күн бұрын
@@Officercake absolutely agree, but my question stands. Why don't you train actual fundamentals and talk to cops about that. Not running and shooting and ultimately not very accurately? I'm not dogging you I'm just laying out the obvious fact that your struggle with some fundamentals. Make a video of you doing doubles and some transitions to show where you are. That would go a longer distance for cops.

@Officercake

@@jacrispy9603 also, it’s important to note that among the various reasons why cops don’t train practical shooting, one of them is because they don’t think it applies to their job, which is obviously not true. With these range drill videos, I hope to bridge that gap and directly relate practical shooting concepts with police scenarios.

What are your thoughts on using the taser with only your support hand? I switched to support hand only taser in 2008 and it built a better neurological pathway for success.
@Officercake
@Officercake 20 күн бұрын
I haven’t really spent much time thinking about that because I was gonna do that myself but my department wouldn’t allow it. I really like the idea of using my support hand for that so my gun hand can always be free of having an extra task.

Our department policy for taser carry is support side and support hand. They sent us an article explaining why it’s logical so you don’t accidentally shoot someone with your duty gun.

No shot timer?
@Officercake
@Officercake 21 күн бұрын
Like I said in the video, the most ideal way to run this drill is to have a second person that will give you a threat command at a time when they decide so that you don’t necessarily know exactly when your going to be shooting. I see it as the same sort of concept as working your draw with and without a shot timer. From my experience doing both, it’s easy to feel fast and comfortable with your draw when you’re just deciding to draw and shoot, but the second you add a shot timer, it’s a different dynamic not knowing EXACTLY when the timer is going to go off and it helps you realize where your actually at in your speed with the draw. In contrast, it’s one thing to know, I’m going to start here, and run to that specific point and when I reach that point, I’m going to engage. You can pre determine at what point you’re going to be slowing your momentum and drawing the gun. It’s a different dynamic to not know EXACTLY where you’re going to be having to stop and engage. It’s meant to test where you are at with all of your fundamentals and see if they are second nature or if there is a certain part of them that fall apart and then you can work on that specific portion.
@Officercake
@Officercake 21 күн бұрын
You can absolutely use a shot timer instead of just having your buddy call threat. Give him the timer, you start running, he will activate the shot timer, and you’ll do your thing. If your time isn’t where you want it to be then you can evaluate which aspect of your capability needs work, do other drills to work on them, and then run this back again in the same way to see if there was any improvement. In my case I need to work on keeping the gun flat as I’m transitioning from rapid forward movement to moving backwards to keep my hits on target and then obviously everyone should always be working on continuously improving their draw, grip, vision, and presentation etc.

Haha so funny story. With this mount that came with the holster, the only way is to take out 2 of the screws, rotate it, and then tighten the one remaining screw down HARD. Is it ideal, no. But I haven’t ever had issues with it coming loose or anything like that.

What is the desired outcome of this drill?
@Officercake
@Officercake 18 күн бұрын
Identifying what you need to isolate and work on. If that’s grip, presentation, movement, vision, it doesn’t matter, and will be different for everyone. It incorporates multiple fundamentals in one as a test of your fundamentals.
@Dillydilly956
@Dillydilly956 18 күн бұрын
@@Officercake but how does it identify anything? There are no metrics to gauge your skills or progress other than where your hits landed. If it takes someone 10 seconds with all A’s and another person 8 seconds but has 2 C’s who performed better? But without a timer that is impossible to identify anyways. Why not just have it timed from the very start. Run to a prescribed cone then move laterally towards another position and shoot a prescribed round count. The randomness of someone else calling threat does nothing other than add a tiny fraction of time. You already know the threat call is coming in a general area so there is no decision making process occurring.
