Range-Finder Training and the No 12 Marks III, VI and VII

We're pleased to announce that we will begin to share the rest of the videos from the Range-Finder training series, following the 1942 manual. We completed some missing videos this week so can bring together the complete set of lessons on how to use the Barr & Stroud Range-Finder, as used by the rangetakers in the Machine Gun Battalions from the Great War through to the end of the Vickers' service.
Rich also shares some of the differences in the different types of Barr & Stroud Range-Finder that we now have in the Association's collection.

It is interesting to see, that British technology is identical to German. I have an 80cm range finder from WILD, built in 1972. Like new and with an absolutely clear view. It is identical to the German „Entfernungsmesser 41“. Greetings from Germany.

I have a No.2. MK VII. It is not branded Barr & Stroud but has A.N.G.L. From abbreviation research, this could mean 'Air Naval Gunfire Liaison' ? Its patents are the same as Barr & Stroud, British 1941 and French and Dutch. Its 1 mtr long with strap at both ends and rubber eyepiece. All artifact details are identical to B&S as far as I can see Q.Is it Barr & Stroud OR what is ANGL? regards

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying. It’s not an an acronym we recognise straight away and some brief research doesn’t identify it either. It could be an export variant or commercial branch of B&S if it’s otherwise identical.

@@vickersmg Thank you. I also sent a more extensive email. I also can't see through it. After directing a bright light into it through the prism lenses it shows up, through light leak, some sort of shield or gate behind the view mask. I am wondering if there is some switch/trigger I m not aware of that needs to be activated??

Is one of the coloured filters over the lenses? Try to remove the eyepiece.
