In this Range Report I get to shoot and review an integrally suppressed semi-auto pistol from SilencerCo. This pistol is the Maxim 9. The name is derived from the inventor of the silencer Hiram Maxim. This is a unique design and is considered to be a high quality firearm even though it did not reach great commercial success. How does this gun perform? Is it quiet? This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this gun. Yours may vary.

If the red dot is not sighted correctly, height over bore, throwing it off, that might lend to inaccuracy. There are some X factors at play.

147 grain 9mm is quieter, but you probably already knew that.

Good review, that is an interesting one for sure.👍 That temp doesn't surprise me at all, one mag dump from a 35 round mag in my Ruger PC Carbine and the barrel is well over 250F, and that is unsuppressed, I try to avoid those 35 rd mag dumps after seeing those temps....

Wow, that is hot! Heat is one of the things that can damage a gun over time.

i am not an expert but i have always read that it only takes a few inches of barrel to stabilize a bullet. the advantage of a longer barrel with iron sights is the longer sight radius to minimize sighting errors (also of course higher muzzle velocity). i enjoy your videos.

@27:13 it looks like your screw is backing out which may be why you were having accuracy issues. See if your accuracy improves without using the dot or remounting the SRO to spec. Also try using 147 grain instead of 124, even though it is integrally suppressed using 124 is going to put you right at 140 db. The Maxim was never the quietest can only being about 130 with subs and still having a high pitch.
@thetexasgunvault
@thetexasgunvault 2 ай бұрын
You bring up a great point about the pitch. It was pretty high.

I may be wrong but I don't think 124gr 9mm is considered subsonic. That weight might be on the very edge. I think you need 147gr or above.

Regular ammo or subsonic? That's the question, because regular 9 mm is supersonic, so it kind of makes the suppressor a little redundant IMHO!
@thetexasgunvault
@thetexasgunvault 4 күн бұрын
This pistol is supposed to slow the supers down to sub velocities.
@dreamingflurry2729
@dreamingflurry2729 3 күн бұрын
@@thetexasgunvault Nice, but wouldn't subsonic work better still because? I mean an MP5-SD (that's the one with the integral suppressor, which also slows down supersonic 9 mm) works better with subsonics (the Navy Seals also stuck with some M3 Grease Guns for a while longer, because .45 is quieter (even with the suppressor on their then new MP5s!) as a naturally subsonic ammunition!

Also, for some reason I'm wondering if those "random lines" on the grip and frame is actually Morse code. I don't know what it might say but that would be pretty cool if it was. It would imagine it reading: "The right of the people to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed"
@thetexasgunvault

It is not morse code as I can tell. But I can see what you mean and it would be cool if it was.

@@thetexasgunvault seems more like it’s the gun itself, I assume the screws on the red dot are tightened, don’t think you would have missed double checking that, not sure what would cause that. I’d send it to the manufacturer and have them check it out

Yeah, a weapon you can't take apart and clean (ok: Other than bladed weapons, which you don't need to take apart for cleaning), is not a good thing! Hell, fouling isn't as bad with "smokeless" modern powders (they do still produce smoke, combustion always does, but of course less than black powder!) might not make your weapon nearly unusable after firing a few shots if you don't use the ramrod to at least surface clean the bore etc. but you are still producing "dirt" (powder residue)...seriously, do we want Cyberpunk 3D-Printed "single use" (as in the magazine is an integral part of the weapon and can't be reloaded at all) guns and suppressors you can at best dump into a cleaning solution to soak and hopefully remove at least enough dirt to still use it for a while, till it is gunked up so badly that you have to throw it away? I really doubt it! Even with mordern additive manufacturing (basically 3D-Printing stuff, which can be done seamless and without the option of taking that thing apart alter on) you can make things that you can clean! As for this weapon: This is one one sexy futuristic looking weapon! Seriously, it wouldn't look out of place in say 'Blade Runner' or even in military Scifi like Stargate

Yep, your wife is definitely a better shot than you.😅 I personally think that the gun looks very front heavy and I noticed that a lot of your shots were low. So it seems like when pulling the trigger, you inherently cause the muzzle to dip downwards. This likely can be trained out.
