Range Report: Zastava ZPAP M70 w/ Magpul Stock & UTG Handguard

In this Range Report I shoot a variant of the ZPAP M70 I have not shot before. This is the Magpul/UTG version. This is a variant that is more modern with a tactical application in mind. It is heavy and also uses a 1.5mm receiver. Many people prefer this type of AK since they are so robust. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this rifle. Yours may vary.

I love my M70. I prefer the wood furniture. It's just how I think an AK should look. To each his own.

I agree. An Ak seems to always look perfect with wood. But I do like the polymer look like on an Ak74m because it still looks original.

He's talked alot about the weight. I'm 5'2", 140lb, multiple shoulder surgeries and have had zero issues supporting the weapon while firing through a mag. If it's that heavy, find a supported position. I've found it (said weight) is awesome for staying on target.

ZPAPs are great guns. If any of y’all are looking to get one i’d suggest doing it soon. Serbian president has said he’s going to stop arms exports from state factories like Zastava due to increasing tensions in the region.

Shes an accurate shooter. I've been shooting Barnaul SP, RN, and HP never any issues.

I just test my M70. Not a single jam and accurate. Stock was kinda loose after, but an easy fix it just wasn’t tight enough. But for a grand, totally worth it.

I have the same exact AK but mine does not have red dot. I did add a front collapsible hand grip. Helps with weight of gun. Also with hand grip you can also attach a tripod, light or even laser. More of a modern AK to me.

@@joeyd1311 the alpha handgaurd does not work. But they do have another option that does. The folding stock does work.

My magwell in my zpap is tight too, but it doesn’t bother me. It’s not a rifle going into war, so I don’t need to do sub second magazine changes. It’s just for fun and of course home defense.

I think this is the zastava usa m70. Theres also a zastava m70. Not sure what thr difference is and if its made in different factory or not. I noticed this with m90 too

I have a GP WASR 10/63. It is lighter and more standard to spec for an AK so more parts will fit, but I'd love to own one of these.

I have an M70 setup exactly like that. While I prefer the original wood furniture more, the cheek slap provided by the comb of the stock is unbearable after a couple of mags so I went with the Zhukov stock. After I was unhappy with the look so I switched out the original for the UTG handguard. You can buy a cheek rest from Magpul which provides a much better cheek weld for using an optic. What's the rail mount that you have attached over the receiver cover?

Beautiful AK - The handguard is airsoft tier though, tbh. I have one, put in on and took it off. I would say SLR, Krebs, RS Regulate.

@@thetexasgunvault With the wood they weight a little more. Just shy of 8 lbs. The 1.0mm WASR is noticeably lighter.

I’d hate to nitpick here, but Yugoslavia was not an Eastern Bloc country and the Yugoslav people were under constant fear/threat of invasion by the Soviets or their Eastern Bloc neighbors. Yes, they were socialist, but the country was at odds with the USSR and Stalin refused to give them weapons or allow them to build/license soviet weapons, unlike Eastern Bloc countries such as Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. After Stalin’s death, the USSR kept this policy towards Yugoslavia. This is why their rifles are patterned differently from all other AKMs. Serbia’s history is very complicated, but it’s not accurate to say that it was a “Comm Bloc” country.

Good morning, Jason, I don't give a hard time about your AK reviews. Personally, I love AK's and your reviews are great. I just dislike the reviews on that piece of crap that you keep bringing up. I think it's to have a dig at me. 🤔😬 And you know what piece of 'crap' I am talking about. Saint John, I believe would be disappointed in how the piece of 'crap' has been developed. But I bet if you just reviewed AK"S and 1911A-1 pistols you might make St John's spirit happy. That AK is way more accurate than the shooter. The last time I shot an AK, I grouped on a whole target. Throw that magpull junk in the trash. All the cons are related to the Magpull accessories and mags. Run surplus mags as god intended.
