In this Range Report I shoot and review a Zev Technologies OZ-9. This pistol is a Gucci Glock Clone. While it is not just a standard Glock upgraded with new parts, it is a modular pistol that takes heavy inspiration from the Glock design. Is it worth three times the price of a standard gun? Is the accuracy everything people claim? Well, these are my thoughts and experiences.

I recently bought a new ZEV OZ9C ELITE . I had the same issues you did , "failure to feed issues.' I was not surprised at all , in fact, I would have been surprised if I didn't have feeding issues. This is not a glock clone either, by the way. This ZEV OZ9 is a high-end pistol design with very tight tolerances, hence the price ! I've owned other high-end pistol , i.e., Ed Brown , Wilson Combat EDC 9 , and my 2011 C2 Staccato . All these pistols are over $1800 dollars , up to $3500 dollars. All these had feed issues due to extremely tight tolerances. Once I shot a couple hundred rounds through them , the recommended per the manufacturer they were issue free . They also were the most accurate pistols in my collection. Its the trade off if you want pistols that are exceptionally accurate. Glocks are known more for there reliability right out of the box , not for there accuracy. I regularly shoot 2" shot groups with my ZEV OZ9 C Elite from 15 yards. The only Glock I own that shoots those kind of groups is my custom Glock 17 Gen. 5 ... It has a $600 Killer Innovation Slide with a $500 Trijicon RMR, the new $100 glock performance trigger w/ Johnny Glocks adjustable trigger shoe. Oh ! and most importantly a $300 ZEV Optimized barrel. You get what you pay for !

So you paid a lot for a gun you expect to have failures to feed? I disagree with you as this a Glock clone. The design and function is the same. Tighter tolerances does not mean it is not a clone.

hi jason, always love your insightful reviews, saying that this video proves that firearms is the ultimate YMMV topic from one user to another, I just got a ZEV OZ9 Elite Standard size and it is my best shooting gun right out the box. Today i put 100rds through it for the first time and I had zero malfunction and was able to hit bullseyes at 7 and 10 yards using standard sights, feats I never was able to on iron sights on any of my other guns. It is now my favorite range gun out of my collection. I say this because a lot of times new gun owners rely on an aggregation of reviews and sometimes develop an opinion based on the review before ever putting a round through the gun. Just a different opinion as I like the commentary your comment section in your videos provides. Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much. I do not want anyone to think anything I say is the end all and be all. I just try and share my real experiences and opinions on guns with people. I know not everyone will agree, but I stand by what I say and document what really happens.

I found your review very interesting. I have an OZ-9 that has rounded slide openings at the top front of the slide, a TiN coated barrel and also came in a very attractive red plastic case. I didn't find the grip texture overly aggressive, but as you said that is a personal preference. I haven't had any break-in issues either. The only minor gripe I have is the trigger has some staging but the reset is excellent. I also found it to be supremely accurate as you did, but I've put an SRO on it which probably also helps. All in all, I'm very satisfied with it. I suspect you have an earlier version as mine was purchased new last year. Thanks for the very thoughtful and honest review sir.

Thank you for watching! That means a lot. I also appreciate your comments. Sometimes people can get really upset with me when my thoughts and opinions do not match theirs. I suspect you are right and I know that they are always improving their products. They are a great company and would not expect less.

Completely unacceptable for a $1700 firearm. I’m a Glock fan and I love my G19x, I’ll stick to that since it’s my favorite Glock. If I wanna range toy, I’ll go with a PSA dagger that I can trick out on a budget and still have $$$ left over for an RDS, a case of ammo, and a couple training sessions. Just my 0.02 cents. Keep up the good work sir!

The grip angle feels different. I have been shooting my brothers oz9c I have a gen 5 19 and have shot 2500 rounds out of mine never an issue. But the oz is just a different shooting experience. Accuracy is like a 1911 on the oz9

Jason, my very first shot with my new OZ-9 had catastrophic failure. Only way to get back in action was to lock the slide back and dump the mag. I had the exact same experience as you, but after about 50 rounds (with about 10/15% failure) it settled down. The next 50 I had, I think, one, maybe two. Will get back to the range soon and run 500 through it and report back.

I bought this same gun and shot 200 rounds through it. I had 4 FTF during these 200 rounds, just a tap on the bottom of the mag and the round would slip into place. I only had 200 rounds with me, so hopefully this is a break in period. Anyone else have this issue? I used 124 grain S&B and shot 15 rounds of 124 grain Federal Hydra-Shok’s. No issues with ftf with the federals.

@Kismetix
@Kismetix Жыл бұрын
Excellent review, and pretty much my experience with the gun. I own the OZ9C Elite, along with a couple of other Glock knock-offs. I had the same problem with misfeeds during the first 200 rounds, and the problem seems to have gone away but I'll let you know after 500 rounds if that is verified. Otherwise, no problems and of all the handguns I own, I like shooting this one the best. (I have a couple of Shadow Systems and a Sig) The reason I like shooting the O9C the best is not just for the excellent fit in the hand, but I find that I don't need an optic to shoot it accurately. The front and rear sights are so good on the gun that even with my less-than-great vision, I find that I don't need an illuminated optic to aim the ZEV. That red front sight really sticks out and for some reason, I can see it very clearly despite astigmatism and without reading glasses (which I need for everything else). BTW, I find that the Shadow Systems MR918 and MR920s are excellent handguns as well (far superior to Glock and others), but as I recall I had a few break-in jams on those as well....I think those jams went away after about 50-100 rounds, and haven't had any jamming with them since then (and now with thousands of rounds through each of them). I found it unusual that all you got was a cardboard box with your ZEV OZ-9; mine came with a really nice red lockable Pelican case. The case is really fantastic - I guess Zev must have stopped supplying those with their guns?

doesn't this have the modular system with grips? I'm surprised you didn't touch/review that and the chassis. Additionally, the grip angle is different vs a standard glock (i think that is worth mentioning) I agree on the break-in 500 rounds is a little silly. I received a nice box for my oz9 covert.
