I agree with you 100% about the rod. I do not know why people are so hung up on using such a spinning light rod. As long as the drag is set right for the line you are using and you don't try to over power the fish when you are fighting it all is good. When I was in NYC and fishing BASS and FLW as a co-angler after the first tournament were I used a light rod in my spinning rod setup, like you I was done with that and It made no sense. From that point forward my spinning rod setup was always heavier than any of the boater I fished with. I also 100% agree with you about rod and reel setups, they should not be setup for small fish like you have stated in the past when talking about your bait casting setups. It is all about having the right setup for catching the bigger fish just like you said, anyone can catch 2 pounders. You are a stud with a baitcaster in your hand and now you have just adding yet another tool in your arsenal. One of the things I like about you is, you are not afraid to change with the industry and technology and you are always willing to learn something new and share it with you fans. Continue the great work Todd the industry needs more people like you!!!

Great point about multi-species catching baits. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the boat with a guy or buddies and they catch everything but a bass on a lure, “at that point in time”, then put it down never to be thrown again. Smh lol.

Awesome bait I’ve been fishing it for a few months. It’s about the only bait I LS with now. Thanks Todd. Do you have a color preference? Smokey Shad seems to work in all water conditions for me.

I'm right there with you on most of the spinning rods and line I see people use are to lite for me. I really like the falcon Cara and Expert 7' to 7'6" medium/fast... but Toledo is my home lake and I do take the trip to Rayburn and Fork pretty regularly so I do tend to lean towards heavier gear. Gonna have to check out this bait I've tried just about all of them like this. This technique/style of fishing is something I've never really caught many big fish doing. I've caught a bunch of fish of all species but I end up giving up on this kind of fishing and going back to doing things I have more confidence in. I really need to take everything else out the boat but a few spinning rods, jig heads, and minnows and go livescoping for a weekend... Great video as always keepem coming brother...

True Bass Sonar head and a hogfarmer spunk shad IMO gives the bait the best roll and ive tried all sorts of combos. Having 2 contrasting colors on the bait helps exaggerate the roll. Ive caught multple 5+ # fish on table rock on it and I even caught a 44"x 29" blue cat on it sunday on bull shoals.

Last 2 years I always have a 4" Caffeine shad rigged with the 1/8oz Core Tackle hover Rig. I throw it shallow, deep and everywhere in between. I love the action of it, but looking at the Mach bait it looks like the tail has a bunch more action without shaking it. How does the weight of the Mach bait compare to the caffeine shad?
@stevekeen70355 ай бұрын
Todd, I think they call that bait roll. That head moves tbe center of gravity more towards the middle and it makes it roll. Probably takes some of the tail action away from the bait. Fish seem to like that roll.

Question. Why use 15 lb braid and 10 lb fluoro? Why not use 20 lb braid and 15 lb fluoro/mono? Especially in East Texas? I don't get the recent trend of using super light braided line and lighter fluoro.

I've been using baits similar to that for years in the winter way before livescope. Assasins, flukes and others. Hey Todd. Where's the super glue?

I’ve been trying to play around with this strolling/Damiki rig deal the past few times I’ve been out. I’m also new to FFS so trying to kind of use that too. I haven’t had any success with it yet. Honestly I’ve been fishing worse with the FFS cuz it just makes me fish different. I will give this set up a try tho.

Great jighead but I can't find them in a 2/0 with a 1/8th weight. To me the 3/0 is too big for 4" baits

@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I've just always believed you use the smallest hook you can get away with, and the Keitech Super Round Ball Tungsten 1/8th 2/0 has caught me 4 fish over 7lbs this year. I've got the ones you have in the video rigged on the 5" Mellow Drift Frys though
