The acceleration is decent for an SUV that size but not great. The braking is good because it is not very aerodynamic.

99% of cars stop quicker than they accelerate. Only cars like a Bugatti Chiron or Tesla Model S PD100 have any chance of stopping slower or at the same speed as it accelerated.

Unbelieveable! I love this car. It's much better than all cars of this class. It (to my mind) looks better, it's incredible fast for a car of that weight and(!) you can really go offroad without worrying. It's still the perfect mixture of luxury, power and offroad skills. I would love to see how this engine handles the LWB-model.

right, you've got a point, but, only power can keep such a high speed at this level of rpm, and remember, this car weight over 2 tons, and and aerodynamics is pretty average :)

Oskar Lourenco I think it's the gear box that makes it run at high speeds with low rpm. If it had 6 gears, it would've been a different story.

thedon008 Nope, the argued thing has nothing to do with number of gears. Drive ratios (gearbox, transfer case, final drives and diameters of the wheels) determine rpm / speed -factor. But whatever the gearbox, you'll need considerable amount of power to do that speed on that car. A 100hp engine couldn't do the job even if it had 50 gears.

muuris Still no. That's torque, not power. Since there's 8 gears, highest gear has much less ration than, lets say, 6th gear with a petrol engine. Petrol engine with 6-speed transmission with the same power as SDV8 would rev much higher.

In this case there is no need to have any help from the transmission while braking cos the brakes are powerful enough to stop the vehicle in any situation.

8 gears for better acceleration and better fuel economy. By having a smaller gape between gear ratios the engine can be held in a higher average power band. And therefore also allowing 8th gear to be very tall for best highway economy.
