I have one as well but mine still has the handle, they are very useful :)

With the handle gone you can see the steel end of the chisel, while steel on steel is not a great idea it does give a more accurate tap. I also have another old chisel with the wooden handle still on it 👍

I would expect a 1980 to have the riveted tailgate with the hinged numberplate. Hopefully someone makes a repair panel for those, with the square recesses .

I’m just going to ask this here as I’ve searched and doesn’t seem anyone has done so. Would it be possible to cut a hole from the vehicle side and use the space as storage (with a hinged cover)? This is common on many vehicles.

Inside the tailgate? yes why not but there must be easier places to store such small items.
