Range Rover Sport L494 Sound System Subwoofer Speaker Audio upgrade / removal

In this video we show you how to upgrade the audio system sub woofer on a Range Rover Sport L494. We look at the different park number for the speakers and subwoofer and also look at the location of the subwoofer under the seat of the Range Rover Sport L494. We remove the sub woofer speaker and upgrade it to one from the 2500W meridian sound system.

Mate I've got an ultimate peasant spec sound system in my RRS hse .... does mine even have a subwoofer? If not, can one be fitted where there is supposed to be one?(if that makes sense)

@@sayithowitis470 Oh dear - this is not good.... not rocking the tunes for you buddy.... there is a chance you do not have a sub but it would be worth taking out the RH seat and taking a peak underneath to see if there are the connections for an amp there.

Hey all. My l494 also has the rubbish base system, i just changed out the woofers. from pn/LR044858 to LR078623 thanks to @powerful, i used your videos as inspiration! thanks! However i would say the performance increase isnt overly amazing. it defiantly has more kick, but still lacks a bass-y boom. I subscribed to JLR's EPC and noticed my system as predicted has no sub. I just purchased pn/LR033287 - got a steal from ebay! I did this BEFORE checking if i had the connector under the seat - whoops! however if it's there i'll be sure to update or you'll see a sub one ebay pretty soon ;)

hey y'all see my post below for anyone in the US trying to do this. First off.. shout out the gents at powerful UK for an awesome instructional video. now on to the good stuff.... i have a 2015 RR Sport (L 494) SE. bought it used just this past month. has ~78K miles on it and it is in just pristine condition. it came with the BASE 400W stereo system with just 8 speakers. i upgraded the speakers a few days ago using the Premium (not super premium) speakers. does make a mild difference in the sound quality but not overly noticeable. just simple plug and play. after reading a few of the comments here i decided to go on ebay and purchase the subwoofer to see if i could get more out of the system in total. as they show in this video, it's a relatively easy install, just follow the steps. my vehicle DID have the Sub prewired and the plug under the seat (which is under the passenger seat for US folks). did have to remove the foam template and took a big of tweaking to get the bolts lined up to the holes in the sub. once i did that, just plugged everything in, set everything back in place (carpet, interior trim, connectors under the seat, seat back in place), then hooked up the batter and powered it all up. does sound better with the sub. not overly noticeable with the boom boom boom, but there is a deeper sound. i also ordered a 600w amp off of ebay that will be here this weekend and i'll hook it up once i get it (again following the videos provided by the team from powerfulUk). after i get that hooked up, i'll edit this posting to let y'all know how it sounds. I will also place this final edited posting on the videos for the amp, and for the speaker upgrades. really can't say how much i appreciate the gang over in the UK for helping us with all this!!! as we say in Auburn, AL.. War Damn Eagle y'all!!! Edited 9-21-22… when upgrading the amp , my vehicle came with the amp that look like it has a small handle in the middle with raised grooves radiating outwards from the center(call this amp1) and not the amp that has the raised rectangle on top with diagonal grooves (call this amp2). I ordered a high12 that looked like amp2 from eBay. It was either defective or it isn’t compatible as all I got was bass and all the treble was cut off. I ordered another high12 amp that looked like my original amp (amp1), plugged in and it worked perfectly. So looks like either there is some slight programming difference or a defective amp. The Bluetooth speakers, as others have said in the powerfuluk speaker and amp videos, are now cut off due to the fact that the midrange speakers aren’t there. There is a workaround another user posted in the speaker video. Thx to Simon and crew!

Another amazing video and content, that spreadsheet is a great tool! If only Land Rover paid as much attention to details like you allroup it would be very appreciated. I'm a newer owner of a L494 and have found it so difficult to access product information like this so it's nice to have it in a centralized depository. LR could learn a lot from you guys.

Question - would the subwoofer be under the passenger seat in the N. American version? That is what it's showing in the Google Doc diagram.

Hi 👋 I feel in my Range Rover Autobiography on driver side floor sounds vibrating so I know now because of the subwoofer I didn’t know that, I think the subfolder is built in the main speakers. Thanks for sharing this your video for all of us.

Hi Simon, just been busy doing sound upgrade. My car is a 2014 HSE with basic audio. Which consists of 4 Woofers and 4 tweeters. The woofers are DPLA-18808-BA incase you want to update your very useful spreadsheet. Replaced these 4 with the DPLA-18808-DB and also got 4 mid range BJ32-18808-BB. Interesting that the loom in the front doors had the connectors for the mid range speakers, but not in the back doors. Might be helpful info to someone else. Amp and sub arrived today, so that's a job for the weekend, but it already sounds a whole load better. Thanks for all you super helpful videos.

I read though a huge thread online in a forum that if my amp does not have the blue connector, then my RRS is not pre-wired for the subwoofer and door mid-speakers. I purchased the blue connector for the amp and now I have to wire that. Any idea where I can look for the correct pins/wiring of the blue amp connector in relation to the subwoofer?

It isnt how it works. using a higher impedance driver on an amp will draw half the current the amp is capable of at a given output voltage. Using the dual 4ohm subwoofer on the amp intended for dual 2ohm will leave you with half the power going to the sub. It will be a downgrade as your halving your subwoofer power. Youll not give the doors or other speakers more power either. The main amplifer has seperate chip amps per speaker. Would be better to add an aftermarket amp to power the dual 4ohm driver which is easily do able.

Trying to source the mounting fasteners: are the 10mm nuts just regular M10’s? The 8mm screw type fasteners, anything special about those? My RRS did not have the woofer so I’m starting off with just a piece of styrofoam and no fasteners.

I have a 2016 RRS HSE with an odd base 400w system. I took the front seat out and it's just the foam insert and there was NO blue connector in sight for a subwoofer. I guess I'll have to go aftermarket amp and sub. What a cruel joke!

@@bissauSabi No. I looked at a few used OEM subwoofers but I did not have the connector available so I held off on buying it and focused my attention on other maintenance.

Will a premium woofer simply work by adding it to the Base 400w audio system and plugging it into the wiring from the amp? (2016 L494) There’s no special programming required to adjust the settings in the head audio equipment?

my SE 400w model in the US, did work without any programming. just plugged it in. however, in the audio settings on the screen, there is only an adjustment for bass and treble and to balance and fade. I also have a 2009 LR2, and have the midgrade meridian system in that vehicle, and becuase it already came with a subwoofer, there was a setting in the audio settings to adjust the treble/bass/AND SUBWOOFER. so i could maximize the output there. again, there doesn't seem to be a setting in the base 400w system to maximize the output. so i would imagine that even though i have installed the premium (not super premium) subwoofer, i don't know that i'm able to maximize the subwoofer output to get the most out of it.

@@zo5290assuming you also have the base model with just standard speakers... unfortunately i dont believe so because you would have to pull the seat out and then the rug up. Its not complicated but it is a little time consuming. Also if you do proceed. You will have to reconfigure the reciever for premium sound and to do that you will need to buy the GAP IIDControl which is a plug in diagnostic tool...from Canada..

I have this fault code: AAM (Audio Amplifier Module) 2 problems exist 1.B1D9F-11 Engine Speed Input - Short Circuit To Ground Confirmed 2.B128C-11 Speaker #15 - Short Circuit To Ground Confirmed Speaker 15 I believe is the one in the middle of the dashboard.
