This takes me right back to 7 year old me and my 8 year old cousin testing out a pair of Hong Kongs’s finest JADE 4 transistor walkie talkies for max range in Ava, Missouri circa 1971! Truth is, those things would crap out at about a block and a half and you could accomplish more by shouting! Good times🤠

You come in loud and proud. I dont have the extra boost to reach you but I like hearing you on here. Great review and now I gotta find a way to get that QT80 in my rig. Thanks for the review.

Mag mount antennas have this issue usually due to poor grounding one way or another that's why mag mount antennas shouldn't have more than 150w out due to crappy magnet connection to body..weather can change your antenna match because of the Magnet..
@JimMarshallUKАй бұрын
@@jondough4116I didn’t know this as a college student, I had a General Lee in a 2008 lifted tundra, Wilson 5000 and Dave made 2x6. I power like car stereos with fared caps and extra batteries. It was amazing, then I lost interest until now. Everyone I called answered. I’m sure it could be better. I just ordered the new Flex Radio, govt model, open transmit from 1.8 to 2.4 GHz and a 2000 KW amp! I’ll prob run a custom BBI amp, 3cx15,000a7 Not sure what to do about an antenna, that part always bores me

Great video, I have the AT-5555 n ii which is the same radio - I use it both as a 10m amateur radio and a CB. Has so much power it trips the relays in my solar inverter in the garage! I usually run UHF locally, the kit is cheaper, smaller antennas and does as well as CB. But I’m going to try this same test with the new Retevis CB over FM Thanks for the video can’t be a real life test!

Years back (1980's) I used to manufacture antennas like that out of copper, I believe the antenna was called the "DX-1"" at least that is what it was marketing name was? The design is much older than the 80's though! At the time, the "DX-1" for a mobile antenna had a reasonable amount of gain and could hold quite a bit of wattage!

Great video like in the old days of the 70's. Only the radio stations are much better - much more sensitive and with huge power. I wonder how it would look like at 2-3 W in AM.., I think 4-5 miles is achievable. Good health to you.

You could buy some speaker wire and ring connectors. Take the bolts out of the magnets put ring connectors with about 9ft of speaker wire attached to them. that would give you 3 1/4 wave radials for 11m's. Take the wire attach them to the roof rack with electrical tape or whatever. It doesnt matter if they are attached in a square or an L config. It would give you a good 1/4 wave radial system for 11m's. It will help lower your swr. You can also put some ferrites on the antenna feed point and at the transceiver side of the coax. It will help with common mode current coming back to the radio and stop some of the RFI out of the coax. Palomar engineering sells the ferrites for the band and freq you use. They just snap on the coax.

Suggestion for that rattle, if the set screw top can be removed from the antenna, leave it tuned and use some heatshrink on the bottom of the stinger inside the main body .

Mower Junkie 2.0:1 is only 11% reflected power. So, 100 watts 11 watts reflected. Just for reference. It is negligible. You’re not going to see half an S unit on the S meter without doubling the power, or 3db. 6db is a full S unit or 4 times power increase. Thanks for the video. 73’
@CBPunisher1900Ай бұрын
true but that 11% makes heat in the radio so not good u want to keep it cool aka swr below 1.5 to 1 the lower the better
@chrisdelong2932Ай бұрын
@@CBPunisher1900 2.0:1 is safe. Also, that additional SWR causes the power reading to go higher. Watch the video on does a high SWR increase power output. It doesn’t stay in the radio, it is retransmitted.

@@MowerJunkie still better than just 2 bars to sit on, I have to put the roof cage on and strap to it. Thinking of getting a van for static mobile and stuff because it's flat and low here on the fens and then I will put a hole in the roof for the mobile it's probably the best option and I won't screw up the jeep
