What's ironic is that the US is *finally* moving away from the AR platform with the new Sig XM7 platform (the XM7 is essentially a modernized, modular AR-18-style upper assembly on an AR-15-style lower) -- also a new cartridge (6.8x51mm / .277 Fury) for the new rifle platform. Only *now* are various ally countries moving to adopt AR-pattern weapons... which is highly unfortunate for those countries, because they're going to be pressured into adopting the new cartridge -- and at that point, they might as well adopt the new weapon system. I totally understand now that the Royal Family wanted to lower their security costs but... a full gun ban goes way too far. Just look at the special operations in Canada, the Portapique shooting... if you don't think that wasn't an inside job because prince harry and megan wanted canadians to pay for their security lmfao.... it's going to be a lot cheaper now that the AR-15 and handguns are banned..... all so the royal family can save a few dollars on security, you sacrifice your own security for them. That's definitely one of the nicest AR15 based setups in military use. Those Knights guns run very well suppressed. Just curious though, will that LAM hold zero mounted on the side of an mlok rail like that? Even with a bit of pic rail seems like you'd lose zero pretty easily.

If thats a knights rail? Id assume so. I believe one of my buddies has one on his Knights SR-15 and his laser holds zero, but his is top mounted. @henryliu1046 Жыл бұрын
what side you mount on has no effect on how well a laser maintains zero, that's all about how rigid the rail locks up and knights rails have some of the best designs out there when it comes to maintaining laser zero, usually if its side mounted its because of either ergo or balance reasons
@fredted1611 Жыл бұрын
@@henryliu1046 Exactly I have a Pec15 mounted zero issues in 3+ yrs
@Bisley1 Жыл бұрын
@@fredted1611 you’d mount it on top, obviously. It wouldn’t matter if this was a quad rail, then you could mount it anywhere. But seeing how this rifle only has one solid rail at 12 o’clock and the side / bottom rails are MLOK attachments, it would be safest to mount the laser on top. @kaotix_music in this case it does make a difference because of the reason stated above. Handguard rigitity also plays an important role, but if the pic rail it’s mounted to isn’t rock solid, you can have the most rigid handguard in the world and it won’t matter. As for getting in the way of the scope, it won’t. Above 3x magnification you’re barely going to see the laser, above 4-5x you won’t at all and since you have the Aimpoint ACRO on top, that is clearly higher than the laser, you have very little reason to use the scope at 1x at all because the red dot will always beat it at 1x

This set up looks great but is this 5.56? and what barrel length ? 1-10x is great for reaching out to about 1,000 yds but with 5.56 and that barrel length, that won't really be a thing, even with 77 grain OTM's. Don't get me wrong... the set up looks great. Height over bore for that red dot is definitely following current trends however, it's so small and so far forward that i wonder if it will slow guys down in the heat of the moment trying to find that dot. Going to take a lot more practice to become fluid and 2nd nature, that's for sure. Need that repeatable muscle memory for cheek placement on the stock and thousands of "ready ups" to get it right during stressful situations. Everybody in these government acquisition programs seems to want a one size fits all set up. There is no such thing. I don't like "go betweens". I think a 16" barrel should be the minimum for theaters like Afghanistan. Now if we want to upgrade to a 6ARC caliber and FN has their own caliber and rifle now... i think you can get away with a shorter barrel. Even 6.5 Grendel is nicer than 5.56 but the military is the military. I know... i served in SOF. Hey WTH ever happened to 6.8 SPC .... LOL ... now we have too many calibers honestly. Gotta tic the boxes for Barrel life, Ballistics, Bolt life, Reliability, Accuracy, Size, Weight and Recoil.

Thing is, the era of urban warefare/CQB type engagements are seemingly fading away from the past 20-25 years. Expected engagements with China primarily most likely means a return to longer ranges, body armored opponents, etc, so a larger caliber and longer barrel will probably be required for more of the front line troops. X5/7 looks big, ungainly and heavy, glad I'm not humping one.

The AR-10 came first, chambered in 7.62x51mm, then was scaled-down to .222 Remington, the .222 Remington Special aka 5.56x45mm, which was later commercialized as .223 Remington.
