As a born again Christian I started to listen to them as a teenager. I am 53 now. Stryper is my all time favorite band. They have continued to put out great music for over 30+ years! The dueling guitars between Oz Fox and Micheal are unmatched! Robert Sweet is an amazing technical drummer. Tim Gains and now Perry are great bass players. Micheal has one of the best voices. I listen to both Christian bands and noChristian bands. Stryper will always be my favorite. This song is great musicaly and lyricaly. It's as if they are driving home the message of what JESUS did for us and how he was not just killed but beaten and spit on and demoralized for our sin through a driving melody. If that makes sence.

What is more amazing is Michael Sweet is close to 60. He said he has lost an octave but still one the best vocals in all of music period!

As a musician who loves Stryper I think there is a happy medium to be able to rock to the jam and be respectful to the lyrical content. When considering the story of our Lord and Savior and combining that with some heavy hitting metal I can jam and at the same time respect the journey of Jesus because He was in the process of defeating sin with sacrifice and overcoming death through the power of resurrection. No matter how somber I know and have faith that Christ has conquered and in the fullness of time will reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. Great video, you guys. Respect.

@andy bosik Yeah, that's not really what I meant, I didn't word it good enough. I agree with you, Jesus was not some stiff shirt. God wants us to love Him and love our neighbor as our self. The power of salvation is freedom. Paul wrote that we are set at liberty and yet he cautioned that we should not then use that liberty as an occasion to sin. But no matter what situation we might be facing we can trust that God remains the same and our status with Him is secure.

Great reaction video! I understand your ambivalence on the matching of the lyrics with the music. I think with more listens, you will find the music matches the lyrics quite well. The story of the crucifixion includes such power and pathos, but also triumph when we realize the benefit of Christ's death personally. Also, that chorus repeating the name of God, "Yahweh", is a shout of praise, embodying the mighty power of God.

I've been rocking out to Stryper and other Christian metal bands for decades; as a believer, a disciple and a metalhead, this music brings me joy and gives me chills! Stryper is still recording and touring in 2024, and still killing it. Thanks for the video!

I’ve never seen your videos, and have to say I was really stoked to hear your “dilemma,” of rocking to a song with such a somber message. Allow me to try and free you from this guilt cage so you can rock freely! 🤣 First, Stryper wrote it and performed it the way that they did for a reason. If you hear their stuff, they CAN do slower ballads. They’re beautiful. BUT…they chose not to here on purpose. My thinking: this moment was one of history’s most powerful. ALL of history. This moment is pure metal. Literally, chains. Imprisonment. The fate of a man in their hands. And this man, who knows he’s going to die, straight up looks this authority figure (who holds his life in his hands), and tells his to his face, “You have no authority over me.” THAT, my friend, is about as hardcore, rocking, and metal as it gets. Like so many stories in the Bible that are somehow mischaracterized - as if they should be seen through rosy glasses or something, or treated gently as if they’re fragile - the guys in Stryper decided to say, “He’ll with that!” and gave it the justice through a gnarly, rocking, crunchy delivery. Because it’s a damn gnarly, rocking, crunchy story! Jesus was a badass. Pure and simple. And this song displays what this story SHPULD portray, in a way that does it justice. So yes, it’s solemn. But Jesus knew He’d be back. To him it was already written. Which. Is. Bad. Ass. So rock out, freely. It’s completely ok, because this is a song of victory, not a song of sadness and defeat!

A symphony can express majesty, a choir may express reverence, but some things... some things should be expressed with power. Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the POWER OF GOD for salvation to everyone who believes." Jesus brought war on evil, died, rose from the dead by His own power (resurrection life), and did it all to save us! Yeah, I think Stryper got it right. Powerful music for a powerful message. Thanks for video!

I saw them in concert a few years ago and they opened with this one - absolutely amazing. And I am going to see them in a couple days again. BTW - the story in the song is actually a contrast within itself. It is a tragedy, but it is also a triumph, so rock out and be uplifted!

Glad you liked it. Don’t feel guilty about rocking out, that’s what the song was designed for. It sneaks that message in to the evil headbangers. Much like how Ghost sneaks their message into the nice mainstream. It just becomes a more powerful message in music you relate too but AOAFEPO. This shouldn’t be sad as it’s common belief, yes. Saying that, it gets me at the end still to this day. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🚌💨💨💨💨🎸🎸🎸🎸

Check out Strypers Blood From Above from their last album released last year. Michael Sweet is one of the busiest dudes in Rock n Roll these past 10 years.. He's done a few solo albums, like 5 Stryper albums, 2 albums with George Lynch, 1 with Tracii Guns, he wrote a book and this year he's touring w/ Stryper plus they're hoping to have a new Stryper album out this year as well as another Sweet/Lynch album as well as a solo album.. The dude is on fire.

Awesome song🔥🔥🔥🚌💨💨💨💨, thanks for the fuel Robert 😁👍👍. That's always benn my issue with rock and metal. I can only focus on one or the other. Lyrics or instrumental. And instrumental always wins with rock and metal. I have to hear it a lot of times to get the message often. Some stuff is easily followed. But the metaphorical, the double entendres, the universal concepts that can be taken differently depending on the individual. That's when the lyrics loose me in rock and metal way to often. Doesn't seem to be a problem with any other music though 😏. I think the guitar and drums speak louder to me in general though. I have absolutely no musical talent, which makes me appreciate those who do so much more! Part of why music appreciation is so beneficial to me here. It's not a total breakdown, but I get the jist way better, which allows for better understanding. 😉👍

Great track, right? I have a sort of answer, maybe, for the dilemma of lyrical content versus musical content that might evoke juxtaposed spiritual response. Sleeping Giant - "Tithemi". That band takes the Psalm "Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy!" oh quite literally. For me, Sleeping Giant is as spiritual a it gets, or maybe Im used to it. Or maybe its nice to have a band that leaves nothing to be desired who and what they stand for.
