It's called the "White Screen of Death" because it comes on like a jumpscare, therefore startling unsuspecting viewers. I've been obsessed with learning about it since I was 8-9 years old and I have yet to see it in person.

I’ve seen it on an Allegra’s Window tape I have, although it was made by Paramount. As a kid it was kind of eerie and unexpected to see for the first time.

@@seanmichaels9953 it was horrible. Reminiscent of a Soviet-era production factory; grey, monotonous and soul crushing. My coworkers were the uneducated dregs of the greater Chicago area. In the end I simply stopped showing up. I’m sure the operation didn’t miss a beat

@@seanmichaels9953 i don’t know. I wasn’t involved in the technical aspects of videotape duplication. I was a drone. A cog in a wheel. Mindlessly changing spools at the scheduled interval. I’m just glad I escaped. It’s horrifying to think some of my coworkers probably worked there for decades after i left; one day indistinguishable from the next
