I’ve heard of bootleg VHS tapes of “The Incredibles” that exist that have the New Line Error label on it, if I remember correctly. I think it was the version that had horrible, HORRIBLE audio on it. I have an uncle that would get us VHS or DVD bootlegs just like this where it was literally a camera recording of a movie in a theater, except the difference here was that they were all made in Mexican theaters, and Mexicans are way more "expressive" than wherever this was made, so you could hear people roaring with laughter or babies crying or see people moving around in the recording 😂😂😂 They still sell bootlegs in big open markets, but I've never bought one in recent times. Back in the Napster and Limewire era, however, these theater recordings were pretty much phased out for torrented bootlegs. The most recent movie I got bootlegged was Megamind on DVD, and it played perfectly fine, but it was like a clearly 480p video file that was artificially rendered in 720p. Acceptable quality, audio was fine, but something was just off about it.
@joeybaseball7352 Жыл бұрын
I have a bunch of these I got from thrift stores, The Grinch, Rush Hour, etc. And they do suck. Mainly because there's barely any audience reaction. And that's basically the only charming thing there is about a bootleg from 25 years ago. But like you said, they probably filmed these when there was next to nobody in the theater. Which would make sense, because doing this in the 90s, was a very serious crime back then. And they took it extremely seriously. Even imprisoning people for literal years, just for filming a crappy quality bootleg. Something that the cops would just laugh at a theater owner today. And honestly, most theater owners probably don't even care now, as long as you're not shooting up the place. And bootlegs as a whole is almost entirely extinct now because a) a lot of people don't even have DVD players anymore, let alone VCRs, b) movies have extremely short theatrical windows now, sometimes as little as 14 days before hitting streaming. So there's no reason to waste your time filming a crappy cam version, or buying one off the street, when you can watch the real thing in glorious 4K in just a few weeks time, and c) bootlegs go straight to 123 movies now. So why pay for something you can get for free online?
@DozerDaisyProductions Жыл бұрын
Agreed, considering that’s basically what has been happening for the past 3 years now. Plus, even at that most modern bootleg recordings are “tele-syncs” that grab the high quality audio via the hearing impaired track in the theater most of the time anyway. I mean, it’s been like that since the older days with VHS and all, in fact, several more bootlegs of _Toy Story 2_ exist that are explicitly tele-sync recordings. But otherwise, I haven’t watched any newer bootlegs because they’re not interesting anymore. However, if they are interesting, I will at least check it out briefly.

As of right now, I do not know about the actual origins of this tape (or the recording it originates from), however the tape itself was sent from a seller from New Jersey, so I’d assume it originates from there, but who knows. The listing that I saw years ago that went up for $1,000 or so (or more? I forgot the actual price but it was over exaggerated as “THE RAREST TOY STORY 2 VHS TAPE YOU WILL EVER FIND” or something like that) had a different, much more crappier looking, theater recording of the film on there, so in reality, where the tapes actually originate from is unknown to me. Speaking of which, the actual value of the tape varies by which seller is selling it. The one I got was $9 total with tax included, however I’ve seen others go up for higher prices before. To me, I don’t actually know the real value of the tape, as there are multiple versions of this tape with different recordings of the movie on it.

Tbh the bonus content featured on the VHS or the UTB is a lot cooler and “official” than getting the endings to two other feature film bootlegs. In my opinion, I’d go for the former since you can easily just get the DVDs/VHS tapes of said films elsewhere just to get the endings.

@@DozerDaisyProductions As far as i’m aware the VHS and original DVD share bonus feature and since I own the original DVD I do want to own the bootleg more honestly.

I think your copy is either a telecine or telesync
@DozerDaisyProductions8 ай бұрын
Actually, it isn’t either of those. This recording is a “CAM” recording, which is a bootleg recording of the film that uses the camera microphone rather than the speakers coming from the projector and/or radio receiver, like telesync recordings are like. It isn’t a telecine either, those are direct scans from a 35mm feature print with the analog audio.

@@DozerDaisyProductions the tape is also a telesync but the audio is very thin sounding and this one plays the movie straight away, plus you can see people getting up and down
@DozerDaisyProductions Жыл бұрын
Considering that there are people getting up and down on your tape, that definitely means that your copy is definitely the telesync version, unless it’s another version of the telesync recording that exists. It’s still interesting to find though, I initially thought that recording would be on my copy until I discovered that it wasn’t and it ended up being a rare cam recording instead, which is still cool regardless.

Do you really believe someone is gonna put down a grand just for some terrible quality bootleg? Sounds ludicrous considering these were originally obtained for next to nothing in contrast to the home video releases
@DozerDaisyProductions2 ай бұрын
It’s not something that I believe “would” happen… I actually remember seeing a listing for a version of this tape that went up for $10,000 and was hilariously titled _THE RAREST TOY STORY 2 VHS YOU’LL EVER FIND_ or something like that. My memory’s a bit fuzzy on that listing since it happened years ago… but yeah, the most amount of money I’d see a bootleg tape go up for this film is between $5-10, maybe $15 on the higher end. It doesn’t need to be $10,000.
@lapielazoolie2 ай бұрын
@@DozerDaisyProductions Even though not necessarily a bootleg, it does sorta remind me of when Beauty of the Beast tapes were apparently selling for tens of thousands because they were part of the “Black Diamond” collection. Of course, it was just a hoax but pretty amazing people would actually believe it back in ~2017 iirc?
@DozerDaisyProductions2 ай бұрын
Yeah, that fad was definitely something. Ironically enough there are still people who list these very common VHS tapes under the “Black Diamond/Classics” for absurd prices while there’s a whole bunch of listings alongside those that are actually priced reasonably… still dunno why they’re still believing that to this day lmao

I apologize if the tape has (allegedly) caused you to have any issues. I do have a useful tip for you if you just so happen to find this exact tape, however to help prevent this from happening again. If you rewind this portion quickly enough after the static roll and the cut to the WDP logo, you won’t see the static roll appear on screen, just a jump cut to the WDP logo from the IndependentArtists films logo from the cut Simon Sez trailer. As for that static roll itself, don’t blame me for it, blame the bootlegger. Again, I’m sorry about that alone.

If I were to guess, it would’ve either been Sixth Sense or Simon Sez, considering that both of those film’s endings can be seen immediately after TS2 finishes. Although it would be fair if it were also recycled from End of Days, because that brief snippet is there too before the cut off to Simon Sez.
