Hi all, I am LOVING all the feedback from this video! I've heard of lots of other value yarns that people love here and am planning another Value yarns video, probably for the summer sometime. If you have some that you want me to discuss, please do let me know! Cheers :)

I made a huge blanket for my son with red heart comfort. Hated it - BUT, then I washed it and dried it. - Wow! So much softer ! It looked and felt 10 times better

I am in the states. Red Heart SS is my favorite value yarn. Wash it a couple of times and it softens up. Been my go to yarn for about 50 years.

All you have to do with Red heart super saver is wash it. It softens it up a lot. I’ve made numerous blankets for friends and they love them. And the blankets last forever. 🙋🏼‍♀️🇨🇦

I think Red Heart has some sort of sizing like cloth has, and once it is washed out the texture improves hugely.

Don't mind the Red Heart super saver for amigurumi but definitely prefer Bernat Premium for wearables. My husband always loses his toques so I'm not splurging on the expensive yarn for him!

Pound of Love is definitely my favorite of this bunch. Love Lion Brand in general. Just as you said, I really wish they would add more colors to line but otherwise I have no complaints!

Red Heart Super Saver has been around forever. I learned to crochet with it back in the 1960s. As a pre-teen it was the only yarn I could afford. So even though I hated it, I used it. I quit crochet for a long time and have finally come back in past 5-6 years. I have been amazed at the changes that have happened with yarn overall and the number of soft value yarns available now. It is a great time to be in the Fibre Arts.

Personally, I love Red Heart super saver. It does start out a bit rough, but I e found it softens as you work it and it’s durable.

I adore RHSS in most of its varieties. I have never found it 'so darn scratchy.' I wash all my wearable items (or anything for kids / babies) before I use or gift them. Mainly because I have a dog that is an AMAZING shedder. If I find that the finished piece is a bit stiff, I throw a dab of fabric softener in and Viola! No problem. RHSS ( I can't speak for Comfort yarn, never saw it before today) is hard wearing and long lasting. They have so many colorway options -- They have YELLOW OMBRE!!! They will always be the top value brand for me.

Red Heart Super Saver has my heart simply because of the color "Latte Stripe" I think it's super pretty, made a scarf from it, and now am working on a blanket and am absolutely loving how it's coming together!

Great video, Nicole! I don't knit myself, but I have fond memories of when I was a kid hanging out with my grandmother while she knit and had Murder, She Wrote on the tv to have some background noise. I was usually curled up with a book in a chair. My grandmother was one of those rare people that I could spend time with in comfortable silence and have a good time with. Definitely made the time that my mother was in the hospital with cancer more bearable. Have an awesome day! And Michaels is definitely one of the best craft stores around. I can get lost in there for hours, even though don't make anything myself.

This past year I've done a lot of charity knitting with yarns supplied to the volunteers knitters. I must say its made me much more curious about yarn qualities, and caused me to do more experimenting in my own personal knit and crochet projects. Your reviews have been a big help, thanks 😊

Hey Nicole, love that you did a video on this. I totally agree with the Red Heart yarns, I had to purchase Red Heart Super Saver once since Walmart was out of my favourite bernat acrylic yarn and I hated the whole experience and I don’t want to use it again unless it’s my only option.

Yay for pound of love! I enjoy the color selection for the neutrals. Pairs well with a lot of other brands in my opinion. I live in Montana in the states so I have a pretty easy time finding whatever I want for yarn

I completely agree with you on Red Heart Super Saver! Can be good for housewear items but not for wearables. I’m in Australia and we have a lot of great natural yarns (wool, cotton, bamboo and alpaca) but we don’t have a large range of acrylic yarns available so I tend to buy the USA yarns online. My go-to acrylic yarns have been Lionbrand Vanna’s Choice or Red Heart with Love (if I need a large skein) - I like using these especially if I’m making something for someone who is allergic to wool. After watching this, I’m keen to try the Bernat Premium and One Pound of Love! 😊

I love redheart yarns…more color variations, good price…no dye lot issues in majority of the solid colors and when you wash it…which you in most cases you will…it softens up. That’s my 2 cents. Forgot something…the ombré yarns are really great too

Hi - I’m in the UK so we can’t get some of those yarns but because we assess the size of a ball by weight it would be really useful if you could include metric weight if it’s available on the ball band, eg 100gm. We can sometimes get Bernat and some Lion Brand yarns here online. Thank you very much!

I tried Red Heart, and it was good for loom knitting and trying normal knitting, but not for crocheting. My hook would end up between the fibers and destroy it! My favorite is Caron One Pound right now, but I also love Loops&Threads

I have had Red Heart Comfort in several colors and I agree that it's usually fairly rough, however, I got one in Smoky Heather Gray and it is VERY soft, like a completely different yarn. I made a large shrug from it. I find different colors vary a lot in softness, probably the dying process. It's quite a value for the $$ because of the yardage. I don't use Super Saver generally, but found a color recently that felt softer than I remembered so I bought it. I like Pound of Love, never heard of or seen Bernat Cozystyle, but I have only used one or two Bernat yarns in the past. This year, in 2023, Walmart has almost nothing in stock so I've been ordering online from yarn companies instead. ~Cynthia

I made a second afghan for my 11 year old grandson and it looks shredded and pilled almost immediately while the Comfort one I made him first softened and pilled but didn't shred. I won't use either again. So, as a Canadian too, I'm on the lookout for something better wearing. I also found one color within the same brand wore differently???

I’m somewhat of crotchet beginner and found so much value in this video! Thank you for making it. I recently used the 2 Red heart brands you reviewed and didn’t like it that much (wish I saw this video before that lol) I agree 💯. My favourite brand right now is anything Bernat especially the Bernat Softee super chunky...I use it to make a scarf and beanie combo which is all I’ve been doing lately. It’s super soft and affordable too. I’ve only tried Lion Brand Hometown, I like it but didn’t get much value for the money. Will look out for pound of love next time I’m in Walmart!

Try it for a blanket, you won't be disappointed! Definitely try out pound of love! My friend who crochets extensively swears by it! :)

If I knit a garment for an adult I know will care for it I knit pure wool or alpaca and wool or a cashmere combo. We have a full range of acrylic of various types which are suitable for children, babies and furnishing products. I buy my wool from the wool shop or online. I buy acrylic from spotlight and shops of this type. On sale is like balm to my ears. Greetings from Australia.
