Drops is my favourite brand and its quite known in Europe. As I am a student and very much on a budget, but still (if I spend that much time on them) I want to crochet high quality items with little or no acrylic in them, Drops is a great option and it is playing save, because I know I will love the yarn.

I'm from the U.k, and Drops is my most bought, go-to brand of yarn. Its super affordable, and a joy to work with, when knitting or crocheting. If it wasn't for Drops, I would probably never be able to afford these wonderful luxury fibres. The various merino and alpaca blends are so soft, that the first thing I do when I receive my yarn is spend a half hour rubbing it on my face! lol! You should give Drops Air. Its a blown yarn, is super light and uber soft. I bought it to knit a hat, but it looks like it should crochet up real pretty. Thanks for sharing:)

Do you have a Drops yarn that you would indicate for amigurumi crochet?
@freezypeeps8311 Жыл бұрын
If you want a cotton yarn, drops have a some lovely and affordable cottons in a large array of colours. Safran is 4 ply (fingering), muskat is 8 ply (dk/ light worsted), Paris is 10 ply (medium/ worsted/ Aran). They also have a selection of other similar cottons in the drops ❤️ range. If you want a wool/ merino, they have a beautiful 5 ply (sport) called Baby Merino, which can be used in both 4 ply/ fingering and 8 ply/ dk patterns by swapping hooks. They have Merino extra fine which is the 8 ply/ dk equivalent, and Big Merino, which is the 10 ply / worsted version. They also have a 4 ply, 8 ply, 10 ply and thicker (super chunky) versions of a 65% wool, 35% alpaca line - flora (4 ply), Lima (8 ply), Nepal (10 ply), and Andes (super chunky). I would suggest that you can knit or crochet any of their yarns. They have some 100% wool yarns like Karisma and Alaska, but I have sensitive skin, so I don’t use them. It’s got a good range… check them out. Legal disclaimer: I am not being sponsored by Drops, lol! 😂
@Smulenify Жыл бұрын
I think Karisma is really targeted at Norwegian knitters who are used to working with quite rough wool that isn't superwash treated. It was launched in the 1980's and superwash and lighter wools were not common-- if it didn't itch it wasn't warm and durable enough!

I've lived in Norway for 15 years and Drops has always been my favourite. It wears and cleans well. It's such great yarn and great colourways. I use it almost exclusively. I knit and crochet. The Big Merino, Merino and Baby Merino are my work horses and I've made every kid of project out of them on both knit and crochet. Puna is my fav alpaca work horse even if the colours are limited. Sky, Wish and Air make the most delicious light accessories and squishy Cardigans. Cotton Merino is a great spring weight sweaters. Andes is an absolute treat for heavy winter accessories. So many hats and mittens made from that chonky yarn. Karisma is a very typical Norwegian superwash that really does well in the environment over here. It's more a knitters yarn. Soft Tweed is much better as a knitting yarn as well.

I'm not a fan of how they write their patterns. The way patterns are written in Norwegian is not the same as in English and so there's something lost in translation into English. I often find myself rewriting them..

This was so fun to watch, because you reviewed yarns I have used! I used Drops Paris to crochet the very first sweater I ever made. The person who designed it used Drops Paris so I used the same. Beautiful jumper but OHMYGAWD it is HEAVY! Really heavy but not warm. So, I found it a weird choice for a sweater, and it put me off using cotton yarn. It would be much better for home decor than for garments, in my opinion.
@lilithbachelder46312 жыл бұрын
It's so funny to hear that, because I personally adore heavy cotton sweaters! I get overheated easily, so I find cotton a good option, and the heavier weight to be both comfortable and comforting. Inadvertently, your differing opinion has given me a great further endorsement of Drops Paris, so thank you!! So awesome how many different possibilities and opinions there can be in the world of knitting and crochet :)

The first yarn I've bought was Drops Nepal, it was a bit pricey in 2017 but so worth buying to make a winter scarf because the blend of wool and alpaca makes a super warm scarves. I wore it during a super freezing day last year and it felt extremely warm to the point that it seemed to be like an electric blanket or something like that. I've never experienced this before. Later I learned that it was the alpaca wool that caused that heating experience. Big Delight looks absolutely pretty and some of the cotton yarns as well. I'm definitely going to look them up in the yarn shops in my country. Drops definitely has this amazing quality when it comes not only to the yarns but to everything they sell.

Thank you for a really good video.I love love love Drops yarns. Excellent quality, great prices and chic colours - though I'd like more. I'm mainly a knitter and some of the yarns are better suited to that craft as you said. One BIG TIP - steam pressing or blocking works MUCH better than soaking with the more delicate natural yarns. Only a light touch is needed. Watch out for regular seasonal sales where there's a 30% discount on a particular fibre for a month or so each year. Wool warehouse - great service on this. Also love Drops patterns though some need a bit of figuring out as they assume the depth of knowledge that Norwegians have as they teach woolcraft in schools. How good is that? Keep up the great work.

I’ve recently dipped into using superwash wool yarn, and the test swatches shocked me with how much they relaxed after getting wet. I basically had to go down two or three hook sizes in order for the post-washed piece to have the stitch size I was actually aiming for. Maybe the Karisma does something similar? I would appreciate a yarn that recommended a compensating hook size, instead of me ending up multiple hook sizes below the recommendation after multiple make-wash-dry-frog cycles.

I never thought of Drops as "cute little" but OK. I also rely on Wool Warehouse for my Drops purchases. I made a cocoon cardigan with Drops Air but it is a very stretchy yarn so I would use a different pattern if I used it for a cardigan again. Mostly alpaca fibre, it is soft and dreamy to work with, though; it's a blown yarn. I worked with Nepal to make a poncho - definitely suitable for garments worn over other clothing as it is a tad toothy for me, but still a very nice yarn. I have a long-term project going, a queen-size summer bedspread in 24 shades of Safran - I love that cotton. I used some to make soap savers too; I think it is very versatile, and lots of colours.

It has a feeling of the scratchy wool, hovewer alpaca calm that feeling down, leaving me with really nice, warm texture. My only issue with Flora is that if you're not careful and you will have to frog your work, it can be very splitty and in the worst scenario, you will have to use scissors. @@Narangarath when i discovered this i went impulsive mode and bought like 100 USD of yarn from there, cause drops was on sale, and now that its not its a dollars difference and i was so stunned, i was like wow how is this so cheap!? bc in the US trying to get merino or alpaca for that price is IMPOSSIBLE! wool warehouse is my baby now.

Greetings Ms. Toni.....Thank you for your review of Drops yarn. Some of the yarns that you have shown are beautiful and I would definitely try them. And who knows I might buy from Drops next to Hobbii yarn as well. Have a blessed 2022.

I made a superwarm sweater with snow a few years ago. For spring or autumn it works great as a comfy jacket!
