My first entry level boot are the thursday captain because of the low price and recommended by many. But when i try the Grant Stone Diesel. I never go back to thursday. I even gave away my 3 pairs of thursday to my co-workers so i can have space for my new pairs of grant stone.

I got a pair of Nicks Officers boot and I love them! They feel like tanks but don’t necessarily look like them all that much, especially since I got them in a C width. I highly recommend the 1964 brown leather, it’s very nice mid brown with a supple feel.

Own two of the top 3. Grant Stone and Trumans both roc and form the majority of my collection. Superb build and great leathers on both.

Good review because where some will dispute or disagree, you provide good reasoning for your choices. I have several on the list, so I can get where you are coming from. I was wondering if Grant Stone was going to make your list at all, but you describe them well. They and Parkhurst are very well constructed and offer great value.

I have Oak Street Field Boot, Red Wing Iron Rangers, Grant Stone Diesels, and two pairs of Nick's boots: the Roberts in W&C veg tanned bridle leather and the Falcon in Horween CXL. They are all excellent but I like the Nicks Roberts the best, overall, although I do like those Grant Stones. I would like to get one last pair of boots with waxed fleshout leather and lug soles for hiking and I'm stuck between Nicks Urban Drifters and perhaps the Whites 350 Cruiser. I may include Truman in the mix because they seem to be decent boots and the price is right. I'll have to do a little more research. Thanks for the video!

As someone with wider feet and has embraced the “barefoot” style shoes, this list would probably be inverted for me. Love it when shoes have very wide toe boxes and a more foot-shaped profile.

I like my AE Higgins Mill a lot but seems like most people aren’t as high on those anymore. I will say I wouldn’t pay full price but I got a factory second pair on Memorial Day weekend for 30% off for like $265 after tax and I think it’s well worth it

Their sales are great, as is their customer service… but I just couldn’t get a pair of Higgins Mill to work for me, due to a high/steep instep. I ended up with Parkhurst. They worked perfectly for me. Nice alternative to Higgins Mill for anybody with weird feet, like me.

How would you compare the fit of the Parkhurst vs the Grant Stone? Parkhurst is the only service boot that has worked for my foot, which is normal-ish width, but sharp/steep instep. Have not tried Grant Stone.

I took my Diesels on a weeklong vacation in Sequoia, I hiked 30 miles in them, no issues. And they cleaned up fine for date night. I have 20 pairs of boots and the Diesel gets a lot of time and deservedly so.

I love Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots, but for the price I can't justify it. I splurged on a pair, and a week later scrapped the toe on a concrete step and it was permanently scuffed. No way to keep it looking gorgeous, or to get it back to where it was after you scuff the leather.

Being a owner o both a GS diesel in waxy commander and an america a in #8CXL, I dont agree with you. The nicks are more of a casual/work boot while the GS is a true service boot, so in my opinion they dont belong on this list(the vibergs, IRs and trumans dont belong as well). The GS can go from casual to dressy but its not really a work/outdoor boot while the nicks can go from work/outdoor up to casul but they could never be dressy. And, for me, the nicks feel way more comfortable then the GS(also everybody's feet are different).Maybe the legendary stiffness of the BWF ruined the Nicks for you and made an already overbuild boot feel like cinder blocks.

Nicks has a new Thurman last that’s supposed to have a wider toebox. Think they have a Robert in that last too. They have some more narrow versions too, think the packers have a pointier toebox if your into that.

If he had tried Nicks Falcon, it would be in the top three. The Americana is too much boot compared to the rest. Regardless, putting Red Wing IR and Thursday Cap above it is inexcusable.

OSB was 9? I would say it’s better than the 1000 mile for sure. I would agree that GS’s is an awesome brand and they make an awesome boots. I started collecting gywed boots last year and I started with Thursday’s but then the beginning of this year I upgraded to Grant Stone and so far I have purchased 5 pairs of GS boots. I have 2 pairs of Diesel’s and 3 pairs of their Ottawa’s. I love them because their price is not outrageous and their construction and style is awesome. I never thought I would like plain toed boots but I ended up really liking the Diesel’s for the way they look looking down at them. I also have always wanted the Alden Tankers because they have the split toe so I ended up getting 3 pairs of the Ottawa’s because they look like the Tankers. I would add the Ottawa’s to this list but I don’t think he has them yet.

I guess I'm first. Well, so far is none that I would buy for one reason or another until the Captain, but we all know that's not a "true" work boot or whatever, and then I'm not familiar with Parkhurst but if they are more narrow, then maybe. Yes, I still think Truman is overall better for the money than many of the others from what I've seen so far, but I haven't tried to do anything rugged in them yet.

And, as I've said, the Captain and the President don't look or fit exactly the same, so I preferred the Captain by default even though they were the same price and I liked the look of the other one better. And the Truman cost twice as much but hopefully worth it in the long run.

I would not call Parkhursts more narrow. Parkhurst uses a combination last, that is more toward a D width in the heel, but more toward a E width at the toe box.
