@@RONTHEGOAT I mean The Babadook was the start of a lot of the mom-centric horror we received in the 2010's. Plus it kinda popularized the whole idea that most modern horror is really a representation of our mental anguish.

I think they’re so popular because I feel like A24 supports artists. They breathe new life back into Hollywood when it’s all hero films and remakes. I also like that they take risks. Some of those movies aren’t going to be major hits but that’s not the point the point is that there should be more people out there that are able to make movies and put them out there for the world to see.

I went to see X in theaters. The ticket guy said that it had gotten good reviews and so I was looking forward to it, and the creep factor turned up to a 10 when I was the only one in the theater. What I didn't expect was going on such a wild, erotic, nerve wracking, and tension building ride. The audio was so on point I thought their were people all around me. Looking forward to Pearl and MaXXXine!

You can say anything is a hit or miss. As a whole, A24 movies just do it for me more than others. I love the gritty weirdness of some of these movies but that’s just because that’s the genre I’m drawn to. I’ve seen plenty of other weird independent horror films that weren’t distributed by A24 that I love but A24 just has the most since that’s what they cater in. I kinda look at Shudder in relation to A24 because I know I can go on there and find a movie that scratches my itch

I'm appreciative for studios like A24 and Neon because when I watch films I want to watch something artistic, since film is an art form and that's why I watch it. So, being artsy fartsy isn't a negative to me. I do think, at times, A24 is a bit too on the nose with what it does, but we are in an era where we are mostly getting cbm, remakes, sequels, etc... I thought the killing of a sacred deer was amazing. It had so many awkward pauses, so many weird line deliveries. so many wtf scenarios. I was dying laughing the whole night. As a bonus, I watched it with my smart friend and she was able to explain some of what was going on. The only way that movie could have been better is if they had gotten Nicolas Cage to star in it, and have Christopher Walken make an appearance.

Have you seen any of Yorgos Lanthimos' other films? All of that awkward pausing is in at least two of his other films. Definitely a directing choice, but I enjoy his films so much.

I am reading the comment section here for opinions on Killing of a sacred deer and I kind of gave up on the idea of watching it - from what people say it doesn't seem to be my type of movie. But your comment kinda makes me wanna see it :D If you are up for it, can you please share why you hated it so much? I am intrigued. :)

1. X 2. The Blackcoat’s Daughter 3. Hereditary 4. Midsommar 5. The Witch 6. Saint Maud 7. It Comes at Night 8. The Monster 9. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 10. Under the Skin These titles are my favorite A24 movies. There are still about 3 that I need to see. I liked the Green Room but it didn’t make it into my top 10 list.

I know you think Hereditary is a tough, tough watch (and I don't blame you) but I do believe it is one that is almost better the second time around. When you can catch early hints and such. Maybe one day when you are in a good setting, and mentally prepared, I think you should give it a rewatch.

The blackcoats daughter is honestly so amazing.... it was the first a24 film i watched in 2015 way before a24 was trendy and way before i was super into movies even though ive always loved horror films , and its honestly so scary and beautiful in a strange way, idk how to explain it. The whole thing just feels off

Thing is about Climax is that before all it is a Gaspar Noé movie, yeah it was produced by A24 this time but Gaspar always demands full freedom for his films, and it really just is a continuity of his filmography which isn't influenced by A24 at all imo, he did the "one shot/not hiring real actors/most of it being impro" in almost all of his films (dude is known for having like five pages of script and letting the actors do their thing aha) i'm a huge fan of his work and seen all his films, if anyone has any questions i'd be happy to talk :)) LOVED your tier list by the way ! i haven't seen every A24 movie so i find it's a good guide to decide which one to see next ahahaah

Hereditary just had such a huge impact on me. I don't know if its much of a re-watchable one but I saw it in the theater and no movie had ever made me feel like it did and no movie has made me feel that way sense. Of the movies I've seen I agree with your ranking of them for the most part. Got to go watch enemy and under the skin now because those sound good!

I correctly predicted exactly where The Lighthouse would get ranked. It's a fantastic film to me that creeps me out almost as much as The Shining and Hereditary. Midsommar was far more pretentious, imo. Edit: I didn't see it trying too hard to be weird. It's very passive-aggressive and uses imagery and allegories in a unique way. You do have to do some research on Greek mythology, though, to understand the ending.

Hated Midsommar. Paper thin characters. Shallow surface level plot that thinks itself to be deep. Characters that make stupid choices that actual human beings would never make. “Surprising” “scares” that were neither of those. Florence Pugh is the only thing this film has going for it despite itself

Bad take here, but I didn't care for the Witch. The start of it establishes there is in fact a witch, and for almost the entire film she and the other one don't do much until the end of the film, can't grow crops, can't milk the animal, etc, I couldn't care less about it, I found it really boring if I'm being honest. What would have been more interesting to me is if it didn't establish her. Have some odd (but not outright paranormal) things happen, and the family start pointing fingers. I.e the husband may be doing it to toughen them all up, the wife may be doing it to make the husband put his pride aside and think he can't protect them so he would go back to the village to apologise. The daughter may be doing it cause she's about to be sold and she wants them to think they need a third adult around, maybe it really is a witch and she's pitting them all against one another, etc

The Witch and The Blackcoat’s Daughter are my favorites from A24, so I’m happy to see them on the top tier! I really, really liked Men up until that ending. I’m all for artsy fartsy and heavy allegorical tales, but… I gotta say that one really just went way off course. That all said though, Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear were absolutely fantastic with the material they were given!

Ive seen just about all these movies but had totally forgotten about green room, tusk and under the skin which all were very disturbing. Agree with your ranking of the lighthouse, they really do make movies you either love or hate. I'm totally with you on "The Lighthouse". I thought the writing and acting were genius, but found it an unpleasant watching experience, like that movie made me feel bad. "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" is one of my favourite movies ever though 🤷🏻‍♀️ I recently watched (and loved!!) "Resurrection" and found it quite reminiscent of "...Sacred Deer". Also, I watched "It Comes At Night" both pre- and post- pandemie and it totally hit different. Love yr. channel 💕
